If you wanted to you could draw a lot of similarities between what the Titans were saying about Munchak and what the Jets said about Rex. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140103/SPORTS01/301030112/2080 I'm not saying Rex is getting fired or anything like that. I'm just saying that this is not a done deal until the Jets announce the extension or lack there of.
Maybe Woody is one those who does not want to get "blood" on his hands so knowing RR he tells Idzik to get rid of some coaches which RR will refuse to do due to his "loyalty" to coaches & players regime so Idzik then summarily cans the coaches & RR resigns to show his loyalty to his coaches that got fired.
Was the Titans GM in the locker room after the game screaming "this is OUR coach!"? It is a done deal, Rex is coaching the Jets next year unless he dies.
Maybe he was but they weren't media whores about it? So you think Rex gained some leverage in getting a longer extension?
If that's the case, then Woody is even a bigger moron and wussy than I thought. If that is true, he needs to man up. By the time that drama with Rex and Idzik play out, all the other teams could already have hired the best prospects, and all that could be left for the Jets are guys who are several notches down the ladder.
The Jets owner and GM announced Rex was returning right after the game. Munchak was never announced to be returning, Titans management kept saying they were going to have to make hard decisions and have a meeting with Munchak. Even the article you posted the writer has an anonymous source as it's credibility (surprise the "anonymous" source was wrong). The Jets and Titans situations were not even remotely similar. And every team puts cameras in the locker room, mic's up their players, etc. So every team is a "media whore."
what if they never anounvce anything? like i said earlier, they are under no obligation to discuss length or compensation of coaches contracts. they have already told the press they will not be publicly discussing rex's contract. perhaps the video was a feel good p.r. move but the details will stay internal. idzick has been pretty tight with information going out to the press. this could be another way of letting everyone know that only info they are obligated to release will become public.
so were supposed to hate the guy for loving his job? is he supposed to cry his eyes out every year he doesnt make the playoffs? at the end of the day its still a game. at least these guys still have fun out there even without the chance of making the playoffs. oh yeh and why would the jets possibly be happy about eliminating the dolphins from the playoffs and winning 3 of their last 4 games?
about sums things up I'd say. I see some claim the jets are celebrating mediocrity, really its being happy that theres player development and the club was able to exceed incredibly low standards.
You are deluding yourself if you think our 8-8 means a VLT next year. As example try the 2012 Texans & 2012 Falcons vs the 2013 Texans & 2013 Falcons
Gotta say i got a nice laugh out of that 8-8 picture. I am not a Rex hater, but sometimes he's embarrassing. Plus I give him credit for ending Miami's season. None of the other HC'c pictured could say that. Still it is funny.
of course not, the wins only count for this year. the Jets record this year means squat to their ability to win the Lombardi next year either way, but positives attained despite not having a winning record bodes well for their chances. a strong youth movement on the defensive side of the ball created by solid coaching and a lot of talent as well as a few solid pieces to a potentially much improved and better coached offense shows that things are more on an uptick. that means closer to a trophy, and that the course we're on needs to be maintained. 8-8 is a positive movement for us is my point, as opposed to the others where its a disappointment. we may not win a championship next year but things look better for the goal to happen, right?
Who wins more than 5 games with Geno Smith and a bunch of shit WR's? Seriously. This team has very little talent on offense. I considered it a minor miracle every time they scored. 8-8 was way more than I expected. Ryan has never had a decent QB. Never.
He's either the guy or he isn't. I think Woody and to some extent Izzy think and hope that he 'is it'. What goes on behind closed doors.... we can only but speculate. My guess is that this call is Woodys alone, but as the OP has alluded to it would be far better to go either all in or out, unless the FO think this is some kind of motivation.
Ben Roethlisberger + weapons Joe Flacco + weapons Ryan Tannenhill + weapons Jay Cutler + weapons Tony Romo + weapons (R) - Geno Smith - weapons Difference being, all those teams were expected to compete. At the start of this season we were ranked 32nd, so your comparison is hardly fair. 8 - 8 is a positive step all things considered and if you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you.
