Who do you think DEN/NE want to see?

A CIN win gives DEN vs IND and CIN vs NE
A SD win gives DEN vs SD and IND vs NE

I'd rather a SD win because I want to see Colts vs Patriots and a 3rd matchup between SD and DEN.

Yeah I agree on forward progress. I don't think I've ever seen it on a shove, it's usually after a wrap up

He caught it and took 4 steps before he hit the ground. I don't think the Johnson rule applies here.

viewers want to see Cincinnati win so they can get Luck/Manning and then maybe Brady/Manning

Denver would prefer SD wins, IMO (even though they lost to them at home, of course)

NE would also prefer SD wins so they can face Indy rather than Cincy

FYI, for Triplette to have gotten a game, he would have had to be graded among the top 7 (approximately) of NFL refs in 2013.

I agree I think the matchup for both NE/Den is easier is SD wins.

I think the Colts matchup much better with Denver, I think the Broncos would light up SD - Colts can run with them.

I think Cincy would destroy the Pats, while I don't think the Colts match up as well with NE

Out of 27 plays, Rivers has thrown a pass 6 times.

I think SD was happy with their run game/hoping Bad Dalton was going to show up

I disagree. The NFL definition of forward progress is "This is a player's forward momentum when carrying the ball, which is used to determine the spot of the ball when the play ends and where the next play will begin." To me that was clearly at exactly the point he landed after catching the ball. It makes no difference if the ball carrier is struggling, or how many defenders there are. If it isn't called that way other times it's the other times that are wrong, not this one.

I want the Bengals to win because they have already beaten New England and they have a better team than New England.

If the Bengals and Pats switched divisions the Bengals are probably the team with 12 wins while the Pats are likely the team with 11 wins.

The problem though is that they potentially cut the actual play short by calling forward progress because the ruling in the NFL is you have to maintain the catch to the ground, so he was in the process of catching it according to NFL rule

No, if his forward progress was stopped then he was never taken to the ground, so maintaining control to the ground is not relevant. The same argument applies if a ball carrier steps out of bounds without being touched and falls down, losing the ball - it wasn't a tackle, so it makes no difference. It's also why a runner who runs into the pile, goes nowhere, and eventually has the ball stripped is ruled to not have fumbled the ball. You can always debate whether it should have been a forward progress call, because that is a judgment call, but once that call was made the play was over. Based on the definition of forward progress, I think it was the right call.

Hmm then you were definitely right the first time, they've been calling it wrong all this time

he was knocked out of bounds right after making the catch

his progress was stopped because the hit knocked him out of bounds

The going out of bounds was what did it, which is why I think the clock should've stopped

regarding my example of guys driving him backwards:

I gave that example because that's when I see forward progress called. I don't think I can remember a guy being hit, going out of bounds from the hit, and it being called forward progress stopped so the clock keeps running

Maybe you're right and they just blow the call a lot.

    Dalton fumbles to San Diego

Chargers in business, with a lead and good field position

Dalton pulling the Eli. Eli did this once a few years ago, same exact thing. Dove forward and just lost the ball.

Terrible terrible play by Dalton - I remember Eli did exactly the same thing a few years ago. Diving headfirst often doesn't work out so well for QBs.

he had to go headfirst there, although it didn't work out for him

I also remember an Eli play like that, as mentioned
