With the top free agent QB of 2014 (Jay Cutler), just signing a 7 year deal to stay with Chicago, this leaves two QB Free Agents available. Michael Vick and yours truly, Mark Sanchez. Lets take a look at the Vikings.. They have Ponder, Cassell and Freeman on their squad right now. They are sitting at spot number 8, and need a QB desperately. There are 4 teams ahead of them that are absolutely drafting a QB. Houston, Jacksonville, Cleveland and Oakland.. That number could move up to 5 if Lovie does not think Glennon is the future in Tampa. Although there are no guarantees, it is highly likely that Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles and Carr are all gone by the time Minnesota comes up to pick. No way they take a QB at pick 8 if all of those guys I listed are gone. With Cutler now off the market, Sanchez becomes highly valuable in this draft. Although not the greatest, he has shown he could win, and in the right system can probably thrive. If we really want that 8 spot to get our WR/TE, we can send Sanchez, our 18 pick, and a third rounder and grab that spot from the Vikings.. They get a starting QB, our 18th pick to do whatever they choose, and another third round pick to draft a project QB. We get our WR, get rid of Sanchez, and only give up one of our third rounders... This is a win fucking win for everybody involved.. What do you guys think?
1. mark will be a f.a. way before the draft. he is due a bonus in march they have no intentions of paying 2. well there is no 2 because 1 ends this discussion
I don't think 4 QB's are going in the top 10. There's too much real talent there for the teams who are making those picks to reach for a QB. On top of that two of them, Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles have not yet declared for the draft. The buzz is that Bortles has been told he'll be either a 1st or 2nd round pick by the draft advisory board. We haven't heard anything about what Manziel has been told yet. Nobody is trading for Mark Sanchez at this point. The contract is too much for his likely status with the team after he arrives. To take on the contract a team would have to project him as it's starter and I don't see any team in the NFL right now that is likely to do that.
Sanchez has little to no value on the trade market. He's lucky to garner a 6th round pick. But if it's going to get us up to the 8th spot then sure throw Sanch in the deal.
No way would Sanchez plus the Jets first and 3rd come close to moving up 8 slots in the draft. If 4 or 5 QB's are off the board before the Vikings pick then the Vikings would just take Clowney or Watkins, whichever was available and then draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round. Plus, as another poster pointed out, Sanchez will be cut before the March roster bonus.
that's about right, Sanchez is as much damaged goods as Palmer and Palmer only got the Raiders a 6th round pick and a conditional 2014 pick....and the Raiders still had to throw in their 2013 7th round pick to get the deal done.
Just offhand, if Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles and Carr all go in the top 7 that leaves at least one golden prospect (Clowney, Matthews or Barr who are currently 1,2,3 in Scouts Inc rankings) there plus Sammy Watkins who is clearly a top 7 prospect. Hard to imagine the Vikings being depressed about losing out on the 3rd and 4th QB prospects in the draft but having 2 guys ranked best at their position and in the top 7 still available to them. In 2011 the Jaguars reached for Blaine Gabbert on the 10. Guess who went 11?
Although not valuable to us, with the right weapons around him Sanchez can get the job done... Handing the ball off to Peterson 30 times a game and only throwing when needed can win the Vikings some games.. He is a better option than any other QB on that Vikings roster right now. Still young which is also going for him.
Damn it.. I'm just trying to think of scenarios where we get a playmaker without giving up the house.
Sanchez has next to no value in a trade. His cap number is far too high and teams know we will most likely cut him this offseason for cap room. Its doubtful he is on our roster past march 1st.
Do you think that with Cutler being off the market, Sanchez value dramatically goes up? There are no other free agent QB really out there that are worth taking. There are going to be a lot of QB needy teams that need a veteran presence and Sanchez can deff compete for a starting role.
Pretty much exactly, the Vikings would only trade down if they were truly offered a truly ridiculous kings ransom. they're going to get a very good player regardless of how the picks go before them.
You pretty much made the argument of why the Vikings wouldn't trade down 8 slots for him....why give up a true blue chip pick at #8 essentially for a QB that you just want handing the ball off....There is no upside for the Vikings in that trade.
No his value is next to nil. We save 8.3 mill by cutting him. There is no way another team is about to take on Mark Sanchez at a 13 mill cap number next year. They can just wait untill we cut him and bid for his services. Your talking about a below average QB with a huge contract coming off a season ending injury. Is this the type of person you would want your team to trade for?
Idzik can shop around but I think the most Sanchez can bring back is a Sixth Rounder. With a pick that late, just cut him and give Mark some control where he lands next season.
We may be able to get a soda machine with the knock off soda like doctor thunder but other than that probably nothing.
If Sanchez's contract wasn't this large, maybe. But he's also coming off injury, I don't see us getting much in return at all.
Sorry, but unless the ego of Minny's HC and OC is such that they think they can fix anyone, Sanchez has ZERO trade value, and your idea is nuts.
Somehow we got a 4th round pick for Herm Edwards, so I should never say never. However, Sanchez is about as worthless as can be to a new team. Carson Palmer at least put up big numbers even if he was never all that good. Sanchez hasn't put up numbers nor has he been any good, so why would another team want him as anything more than a way overpaid backup? If he's not wanted on the Jets whose QB had the 2nd most turnovers this season, why would another team want him? And as others have stated, it doesn't matter...he will be cut. But even if he had a reasonable salary, I don't know why a team wouldn't rather an unknown rookie QB over a known quantity like Sanchez who is what he is.
