Tommy Bohanon-drafted in round 7 has been solid when in game, most posters said he "wasn't explosive or anything" he wasn't suppose to be his job is to run block and catch occasional pass when in game-B Dee Millner-struggled the first 11 games then started to show improvement down the stretch.Final Grade C+ Geno Smith-Struggled a large part of season improved down the stretch-C+ Sheldon Richardson-played well all season he is a beast -A+ Brian Winters-D struggled all season There's other rookies but didn't see a whole lot to grade em,If I were to grade Millner in the final two games id give him a B+ same with Geno, not a bad draft if Millner plays well next year
But it's obvious that rookies improve throughout the season. You're also grading them on their promise and potential. When you see someone like Milliner go from one of the worst starting CBs to one of the best (PFF has him rated best corner for the last month, did a great job on Josh Gordon), you can't just give him a D. Your grading system may be different from mine, but mine has improvement and promise factored in, and Milliner has done very well so far IMO. I have high hopes for him after his first training camp.
I thought Millner deserved a B- at first but I couldn't excuse his poor play early on even tho he seems to have turned it around but he def doesn't deserve a D
Can you please explain the significance of allowing inside position on that play? He got beat on a double move and had no help to the outside either. Would it have been better if he got beat to the outside?
http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/v...ghlights/74df106e-6344-4243-aada-bce811331c43 00:40 sec. Well, since the Jets were sending blitz pressure and playing cover 0, you'd want your CB to maintain his inside alignment and take away any inside breaking routes first. With Dee opening his hips he left himself opening up the inside seam for Wallace. Milliner needn't have worried about being threatened vertically that deep in the red zone and with his length/reach could've defended the fade (ball in the air longer). Yes, technically a double move but not a standard post-flag or vice versa, but a mini wheel route followed by an inside release. If you'd check the video (link at top), you'd notice that Tannyhill had to get the ball out of his hands in 1.2 seconds. At the point of his ball release, Wallace was still at the 3 yard line and curling outside. Milliner prematurely opened his hips (vs. a "flat-foot" read) and in doing so gave up the inside seam and got beat. The Phins had FB Chas. Clay inside Wallace to run a curl and 'sit' just inside the goal line to further ensure no inside positoned defender would be near Wallace. I'm not busting on the kid, hardly, his break-on-the-ball INT later was a beaut. I'm only saying that while he's improved, he's not out of the woods, at least not yet imo. .............
My grades are in line with everyone else's. Richardson was simply the best player of the entire class this year. Milliner sure struggled but he came on nicely, and eve won the DPoM award for December. Maybe he sucked most of this year, but at least he gave us hope he will not be a bust long term. It just takes some rookies longer to adjust to the pro game. With Geno, I just don't know. He also played better towards the end of the year. Turnovers went down, completions went and runs went up. I gotta say I'm not opposed to looking at a QB in this draft. Geno showed me some, but not enough for me to say that he is the future of this franchise. I know we really need a WR, but if a big name QB fell to us Arron Rodgers style, should they take him? I would say yes. Then again, I'm not opposed to giving Geno another year, either, if that scenario doesn't happen. Again, I'm just not sure about Geno at this point.
Seems like it should have been press coverage across the board to me in that situation. I don't think it would have made a bit of difference if he took away inside position and Tannehill threw the out or fade instead. Maybe he didn't have time to make that decision and that's your point. I won't pretend to know what the corner was supposed to do though - sounds like you know somehow.
And jet fans wonder why their considered one of the dumbest fan bases? Dee was absolutely horrible for almost the entire year. But he played DECENT for 2-3 games and he deserves a b? Really? He played ok against QB's that are middle of the pack. And if you watch the game tape you would understand some of his decent play was attributed to QB's missing throws, being late or off the mark. He's a rookie so obviously he's going to struggle but he was awful! He showed poor technique, poor tackling and looked like he didnt belong out there. The kid was awful. And Geno? Anything better than a c is just laughable. He looked scared, couldn't read a defense, couldn't go through his progressions and couldn't take care of the ball. But somehow people think he's worthy of a B? Nothing new from the fans that told us how great Tanny, Rex and Sanchez were. Now it's defend Geno and Dee because their jets and of course jet fans can't just admit they made a huge mistake. LOL People actually saying Dee was the right pick. LOL People still saying he was the b.a.p.? And you wonder why the jets haven't won anything in almost 50 years?
Jets fans have such a short term memory for most everything not named Sanchez and Rex. They will only remember the last few games but totally forget about the entire season. Dee was in fact probably the worst CB in football halfway through the season but turned it on late. He should get at best a C-. Dee sure seemed like a mistake for a better part of the year and he could still come back next year and regress but its hard to call that pick a failure after one year. As in overall, Geno did improve but taking the entire season into account, he was probably a Sanchez-esque bottom 3-5 QB, which should land him in the D range for sure. His ceiling is much higher then nacho so we can definitely expect much more upside.
Please explain how I'm a troll? I seriously want to hear your reasoning. Jet fans did in fact talk up Tanny, Rex and Mark. In fact they talked about them like they were something special. Tanny and Rex have killed this team with bad contracts, bad player development and bad picks. Rex gets all the credit for the good, but its always someone else fault for the bad. Its more than obvious he had a big role in drafting the players. The guy has helped turn this team into a joke. The great dline is all him, but not the secondary. He gets the best out of his players, just not the ones that play offense. Players love to play for him, except when the quit on him like last year and the year before that. Jet fans love talking about the back to back afccg, even though they lost both. But won't admit they need help even getting in the playoffs. The entire football world knows Rex is garbage but jet fans know something different right? No lets call it what it is. Jet fans have a fictional friendship with him and think he's cool. That has to explain it. Because it can't be the results on the field. He all but concedes the div every year. Only jet fans can get behind a guy that les strangers bang his wife. Yeah that screams leadership. Geno is just like Mark. A bottom 3 QB, but jet fans know something different right? Jet fans see something everyone else can't. Again the entire football world knew Mark was awful but there is still some on here that want him back? LOL And Im a troll? Ok. It's must be awsome being a jet fan. Its never the fact that the GM or coach is bad. Its never the fact that the QB is bad. Its the ref's or a big conspiracy lol! The jets never get the calls right? The NFL just doesn't want the jets to win right? This has to be one of the dumbest fan bases there is. I'm sorry call me a troll, ban me. I dont care. Theres nothing I said that isnt true. Jet fans just dont like to hear it.
You're a troll because all the post asked to do was come in and give your assessment. You come in here flailing personal assaults calling people 'the dumbest fan base' in the world and then continuing to bash everyones opinion based on what you think. You also seem to have a pulse on "The Entire Football world" that no one seems to agree with. I'm pretty sure just about everyone is on board with Keeping rex for another year with the job he did this year. If you can find one person in the "Football World" that thinks Rex should have been fired bring it and post it here. ( You don't count ) You never even gave the picks a grade.
No its NOT EVERYONE'S opinion! Its jet fans opinions. No serious football mind thinks Dee was anything but bad this year. But of course jet fans think he was a solid B LOL! And no "just about everyone" isn't on board with bringing Rex back. Most are the same people that wanted Mark back this year and thought Tanny did a great job. Look at how many people had Tanny or Mark in their avi! That should tell you something about what these people actually know. Nothing! I'm sorry but jet fans are seriouslly happy with Rex? Really? The AFC was so weak this year. Only proving that point is the fact that this jets team was actually in line for a playoff spot a few weeks ago. Its funny the fins who were also in line weren't a good team, but the jets deserved it more? Both teams were bad. Again the whole AFC was really weak this year. You think getting 8 wins, 2 of which probably should have been loses anyway, is some big accomplishment? If the Pats were healthy this year they would have ran away with the afce. Just like they'll do next year. This was the year to make a move but the jets couldnt because of the terrible roster Rex help build. Good luck with Geno at QB. Again everyone else can already see he's garbage but jet fans know something different.
Reading comprehension is at an all time low tonight. The "everyone's opinion" I was referring to were the actual JETS fans on this board that took the time to come here and write a meaningful, thought out post on how they think the class grades out and what potential they have. That you proceeded to come in here and try to crap all over for no reason. But, if you're going to take it as "EVERYONE's in the world" I guess the people that decide Defensive Players of the month aren't "Football minds" enough for you either. I need to listen to my own advice, I fed the troll. Nom Nom Nom.
The biggest problem with everyone rating this draft, is that there are no relative comparisons. ---------------------------- The best way to grade Idzik job is to rate it against other teams. I think the Jets draft would rank in the top 5 of all teams in the 2013 class. Even ranking the top 15 picks, there have been so many first year duds. We'll get a better idea 2 years down the line, but definitely had a lot of contributors on our team, and all players on our team should continued improvement throughout the season.
I need to see how Campbell and oboushi work out next year in TC. If they turn into serviceable back-ups / contributors next season it will go a long way in improving this years draft. Them going 16 games inactive i didn't really understand. I'm hoping the coaching staff sees something good out of these guys and not just hoping for a draft picks sake. I dunno if I'm supposed to read into the "somehow" comment (?) but fwiw and imho, since the Jets dialed up a 7-man rush blitz package (meaning that Tannyhill was going to have to get rid of the ball right away) I too would've liked to have seen press coverage. The only problem was that the Phins had FB Charles Clay lined up on the LOS inside Wallace with Wallace technically a 'flanker' (HB) off the line of scrimmage which (with that pre-snap cushion) would've made it tougher for Dee to get his mitts on Wallace coming off the snap. By "flat foot" (in my previous) post, I meant that when there's a pre-snap cushion between receiver and defender and with the ball coming out quickly because of the blitz package installed, it's better to not roll/open the hips and commit (prematurely) to one side. Lido Sheppard would drive me nuts doing this, having his hips almost perpendicular to the LOS and forcing him to have to turn his hips 90 degrees (or more) to recover (I know that prolly reads clear as mud, sorry).
Milliner - C+, was headed for a "D" but a solid last month raised his grade dramatically. Named "Defensive Player of the Month" for December. Great promise for next season. Richardson - A, Great pick!! Smith - C+, his play for the last 4 games gives me hope for the future. I love his physical tools. Winters - C, struggeld much of season but his last two games against the Browns and Dolphins were solid. Ivory, the trade gets an "A" Aboushi - Did not contribute in games this year. INC. Campbell - Did not play in games. INC Bohanan - B, great value for a 7th round pick. Overall this could be one of the strongest drafts of recent memory. In order to grade the draft, 3 seasons are needed. The above grades represent their rookie season only.
