My idea behind Orlovsky or Anderson is the concept that you have to go into next season with the mentality of giving Geno another chance to try to develop into our starting quarterback given he has weapons. I'm not looking to go get a McCown or a Shaun Hill as I think they're going to demand bigger money. If Geno shows no progress, a stopgap quarterback isn't going to take us anywhere really anyway, and I don't believe in throwing away a second year 2nd round draft pick that showed us promise. I really just want to bring a guy in that can run an NFL offense effectively, because if Geno isn't the guy through same 6 games I'd say our season is relatively over anyways. I really think he has the tools to be effective in this league. Getting a higher end backup just puts a lot more pressure on Geno and the guy deserves a shot if he's given weapons. I like ASF a lot more than Eric Ebron because of the size factor. I'm sure Ebron is going to run faster, but he's more in the mold of a Dustin Keller. I'm not entirely sure about Ebron's blocking ability but being as how he used to be a defensive end I can't imagine his blocking technique is too good. Everything I've read about ASF is positive in terms of his blocking and I like receiver tightends but some of the best; Gronk, Jimmy Graham, Witten, Tony G are all two way tightends. I'm really a sucker for ASF because of his length and ability to extend his arms as well. Lee is my favorite receiver in the draft, but it's such a deep draft that grabbing Matthews would be a steal. He's not fast, but he's certainly not slow and runs great routes which is something the west coast offense is predicated on. I just think with a good tightend and Kerley in the slow, the outside of the field opens up a lot and Matthews is a guy that can catch a ton of balls in a quick passing game. I'm also not a big Mike Evans fan at all. Lavey plays for Oklahoma State and I'll be honest when I say I don't know too much about him. Everything I've read about him is that he's a sideline to sideline linebacker and very good in pass coverage. Can't quote me on any of this but it's based on what I'm read. My draft changes a lot if we can't get a big time guard in free agency which is my only real wish for it. Guard would probably need to be addressed a round earlier in the draft if we don't get one.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to that, and would even favor that if it enabled the Jets to sign another FA or two, or a better FA than Idzik might otherwise have signed. I haven't seen ASF play at all. I definitely need to do some reading on him and watch some film. I have seen Ebron play. The dude is money. He's not just an amazing athlete and physical specimen. I have seen him make some incredible catches. He is fast. He's a pretty good blocker too, I think, although I didn't really focus on that aspect with him. The only knock I've heard on him is that he sometimes lacks focus and drops some balls that should have been easy, routine catches. That is the easiest thing to fix. There is no question at all about his hands. I think he would be more of a mismatch with opposing Ds than Amaro, and probably ASF due to his being faster (but I could be wrong about his speed). I love Matthews, but also love Lee. I'd rather the Jets have a topflight WR and lesser TE than the opposite, however. I'd rather grab Lee and then another TE like Fedorowicz of Iowa. He's a two-way TE and is 6'6" I think. Coming from Iowa, you know he can block. Your way could be better, however. I understand why you're not a fan of Evans. I'm torn on him. I think there are a TON of questions regarding him. I'd be very nervous about taking him at #18. I saw Ok St. play a couple of games this year, but don't remember Lavey, but then wasn't really focusing on LBs. I'll see what I can find on him. As I said, I think that getting an ILB who excels in coverage is a big need for the Jets. I agree that the Jets need to address the OG position and not just count on Winters, Campbell, Aboushi and maybe Freeman developing. I would really love for them to sign Asamoah, but KC may not let him go or Idzik may not be willing to pay as much as Asamoah wants. Zane Beadles would be my second choice. Other options might be Paul McQuistan of the Seahawks who can also play OT, Jason Spitz of the Seahawks, Brian Waters or Wade Smith, but the latter two are older, probably somewhat expensive and would be only stopgaps for a year or two. I'm not a fan of drafting OGs high at all. I think it's almost a criminal waste of a first round pick to use it on an OG. The 3rd round or maybe the 2nd is as high as I'd ever want to go. The only exception might be if the Jets had a strong, deep roster except at one of the OG spots and they had spent a number of years trying to upgrade that spot and just couldn't. In that case, then I'd be willing to use a higher pick on a Iupati, Warford or other very highly ranked OG; otherwise I'm for using middle and lower round picks and FAs as OGs.

Thankfully, BVG is gone [went to coach at college level, where he should be.] but OL coach [Mike Devlin], WR coach [Sanjay Lal] and Secondary coach [Tim McDonald] all remain there. I am more than willing to cut some slack for Timmy Mac as it was his rookie season, but I would like to see the other two bums gone. Is it bad that I kind of agree? Jimmy Graham would be totally awesome, but I would rather the Jets not dump all their money on one player, we have too many holes, we need depth at Cornerback, Wide Receiver, Safety, Tight End, and RB with Ivory never being able to stay healthy.

I have never liked the thought of signing the biggest name FA out there. Sure, you MIGHT get a player who lives up to the hype, but is one guy EVER worth that amount of money? We're talking TE here. Graham is a great TE, and I get that. But how much money would we have to spend on him? With that amount of scratch, we could sign 3-4 second tier guys who could all contribute and make this team better AND deeper. Leave the real big name FA's for other teams, and think bigger and longer term.

QB: Just get rid of Sanchez, and Geno is obviously the leading candidate to start, but we need someone to be a legit backup to push him and take over if he falters or is injured so I want to sign Matt Moore. He isn't scheduled to be a FA but he is definitely a potential cap casualty in MIA. I like bringing back Matt Simms to develop, because he can absolutely be a very legit backup by 2015 and he will be cheap. RB: Our current corp is just fine for me, unless we find out Goodson will miss more time from his legal issues. Ivory was looking very good at the end of the season, and Powell seems to be improving by the week. Bohanon should only improve as well. WR: if Holmes is willing to restructure, and have a salary from 3-4 million I'll take him gladly, as he is guaranteed 2.5 even if he is cut. So getting his talent at .5-1.5 million is a deal, but anything more and say peace Holmes. I don't know what the WR market prices will exactly look like this year but out of all of them the one I want is Decker out of Denver. They are in some cap difficulties so I think we will be able to get him away; he is a big strong guy with good hands and surprising speed, and he runs good routes. The rest of our corp is already signed, and we have a good assortment of WR types with or without Holmes coming back. TE: Bring back Cumberland for a couple years, so he can start for now and give Geno some consistency in his receiving corp. Keep Sudfeld and hopefully draft Jace Amaro out of Texas Tech. Amaro is a first round talent from what I've seen, and while he may have less athletic ability than Austin S-F or Ebron, he is the best blocker and definitely the most professional on the field. By seasons end he will likely be starting, and he will give us a legitimate 2-TE set to play with. OL: We have 3 obvious starters returning in Mangold, D'Brick, and Winters, and I'd like to bring back Austin Howard on a 4 year deal. I'd prefer to let Colon walk in FA, he was a leader but he is older and he accounted for way way too many pre-snap penalties, so I'd like to pick up Jon Asamoah out of KC for 4 years or so. That would give us a solid line with some serious continuity, and give us some depth since we have backups across the whole line already on the payroll with Schlauderaff, Campbell, Aboushi, Freeman, and Ijalana. Honestly we probably wouldn't even keep all of those guys, but going into training camp that sounds good. DL: We have our obvious corp with Wilkerson, Harrison, and Richardson, and Kenrick Ellis rotating in. I think Douzable will be a FA so I'd like to keep him as Big Mo's backup/rotation. ILB: We have Harris and Davis, so they are the clear starters. Troy Davis can back up DeMario, but I'd like to sign back Nick Bellore to back up Harris. The Mike LB position is more important in our defense so that is why I'd like to bring back Bellore who is a good ST player and has a few years experience backing up David Harris. OLB: Coples will hopefully only get better, and I'd like to sign back Calvin Pace to an inexpensive 1 or 2 year deal with nothing guaranteed. I wouldn't mind hitting McIntyre (an RFA) with a 2nd round tender to back up Q, and we still have our speed rush specialist in Antwan Barnes to play situationally behind Pace. CB: Assuming we can restructure/extend Cromartie to a reasonable salary, he will play across from Milliner and Wilson will play slot another year. I have to look at the stats but I have to say I didn't see Wilson on the field a whole lot this year, but he definitely played better this year from what I did see. I'd like to bring back Lankster and Trufant back for particularly for their special teams play. S: I'd like to sign Ed Reed back, after a game or so of transition there was no doubt the entire secondary played better under his leadership, especially Milliner. I'd like to have him at FS leading the secondary another year, with Landry at SS and Allen and Jarrett behind them hopefully preparing to take over the starting spots. Allen is an excellent athlete who was taken late because he converted from LB to safety for the pros, and Jarrett was a second round pick of the Eagles who has shown flashes. K: Folk was very consistent for us this year, so bring him back. He was very accurate and hit some very clutch kicks, and we did not lose any of our games as a result of him. P: Ryan Quigley was a fine Punter, enough said. LS: Tanner Purdum. For the draft, BPA all the way through. Love Jace Amaro's tape, so I'm pulling for him round 1.

He got his money up front from this deal and we see how that worked out. Make this a contract year for Holmes to play for pay or get him gone. No way should we ( anyone ) pay this man 8$ million dollars next season he has to know he's not worth that. Jeremy Kerley - Lock him up, Don't care what it takes. He deserves to get paid and be a Jet for along time. Antonio Cromartie: Gets surgery on hip takes major paycut - 9.5 -> ~3Mil a year + incentives . ( ~$6 mil ) Leger Douzable - Resign - Great depth player at a position of strength. Should be cheap. Austin Howard - resign to 2 year deal, has played well but hopefully his replacement is already on the roster ( see Aboushi / Cambel below ) Damon Harrison - Lock this guy up for a long time, for cheap. Don't let him get to the last year of his contract or over pay him. Bilal Powel - Resign him but not sure how much he's going to pull down but we can afford 3 backs at <2$mil per. John Griffin - Bring back on one year deal to compete in camp w/ Powel, Ivory, Goodson Ed Reed - Vet minimum = keep, anything more = gone. I think he did have a positive impact on milliner and we still need to groom a Safety, who better to help with that. Ellis Lankster - resign, good depth CB and special teams contributor. Why would you cut Harris?He is the QB of the front 7 you do realize that right?The plays go threw Harris,He lead team again with 124 tackles, really dumb thing to say.He isn't a pass rushing MLB he gets occasional sack but he is pretty solid in coverage and great at stopping run.And cutting Cro would be even stupider he played injured all year and still has trade value even if you wanted to get rid of Cro you would trade him not cut him .Thank god you don't work for team

Of course I don't think signing Eric Decker is going to turn the offense around, but this is a legit offseason not some total fantasy. This is what I would do while following Idzik's plan. I think that Geno Smith will be better with an offseason, and I think Brian Winters will be better with an offseason. Lets realize that we had two main problems with our offense; Geno Smith playing badly, compounded by a lack of weapons for him to use. Geno clearly has improved, and don't you think a full offseason with a OC who has had a season to learn about all of his weapons will make him better? We bring in Eric Decker to take the title of # 1 receiver, but we bring him in because he is a big WR with good hands, speed, and route running ability. He is the perfect guy to play across from Kerley (or Holmes as I stated above), and he's not going to cost us 10 million a year, he will be more affordable and he is coming from a team with a ton of weapons and low cap space. I think signing a good guard will help a lot, and I certainly am not putting all of my faith in David Nelson, but I do like him as part of our corp. Now that we are finally ok with the cap you really want to blow it all?
