Pretty sure Sanchez is still on the team, but this is an interesting policy you have. So no one can talk about how much Wayne Hunter sucked or how shitty Vernon Gholston was? No Johnny "Lam" Jones or Blair Thomas? Does it offend your sense of decency and decorum so much to hear negative opinions about pro football players? When the inevitable "Holmes is released" threads show up, you should stay out. They will be ugly.
4. Unlike the other guys noted, Geno splits snaps in a qb comp and had limited exposure to preseason because of the ankle injury.
The point was that Geno had a heck of a lot less to work with than Sanchez did, but still out performed him. MM is a big improvement over Schotty, yes, but the 2009 team had a #1 D and #1 running game with the hands down best oline in the NFL protecting him. No, I wasn't trying to bury Sanchez or turn it into a Mark vs Geno debate. I do in fact, still think Mark can excel in MM's system after spending a year on the sidelines with him. I was just doing an honest comparison. It shows that Geno has a higher potential ceiling, but again, it's a rookie year with an entire offense learning a new system and hardly any offensive weapons at all. Draft and add some FA weapons for Geno this year and sky's the limit. Do the opposite of what we did with Sanchez and draft some guys to stick around and develop alongside Geno rather than having a revolving door at WR for 4 years straight.
Flash: why bother to discuss anything with the little boy? He starts crap on every board he visits and then he runs and hides like the little girl he is. Rather then talk Jets football he tries to dictate what everyone will talk about. I suggest that you just talk about what you want and screw Stokes. He has a "little man's complex and can not change. If you try to debate him in private he hides by saying" my kids read my private mail" and calls the mods for help. I think the best thing to do is just write the things you want to write about and if JStokes cries or objects tell her to go change her diaper and move on!
the 35 step drop:rofl2: He is far from a finished product but he showed me the way he ended the season he can play in this league. It's up to him and the coaches to take that next step. You can't judge based on a stat sheet, they had similar run games, mark had a better OL and overall better weapons though he didn't have great weapons either. mark was much more consistent though, where Mark had 3-4 horrible games that skewed his #s he had mostly good games, geno had 5-6 good/decent games and was horrible most of the year until late. he was turning it over every game, that's something Mark didn't do. I am not as confident in geno as I was/am in Mark but I feel Geno has shown he can now play in this league- something I wasn't sure of until the last qtr of the year.
Those 3-4 games Sanchez had and Geno had are the most important. If Geno can bump 2-3 of those games to decent games and bump a couple decent games to good/great games that will be a great sign. I think Nelson/Kerley staying are going to be important for Geno as it seemed he liked to target those two a lot and those two rarely drop anything. Hopefully Cumberland can come back and we can add some OL and WR and a TE somewhere through FA and the draft. If you take out the CIN, NE, BUF, and BAL games, Geno has 11 passing TDs to 12 INTS, 197 yards/game, an average of 75 qb rating (not ESPN QBR), 7 ypa, 60% comp, 3.6 int % That's the key though, you can take out 3-4 games for most QBs and their numbers will drastically improve, the better QBs take those games out themselves and only have 1 or maybe 2 a year.
What scares me is his kamikaze runs. One of these days, he's gonna get himself absolutely smoked out there legally and as of right now, we really don't have any true experience behind him (no knock on Simms). Near the end of the season, although it wasn't against truly elite defenses, the game did appear to slow down for Geno and he looked like he had a grip on what was going on in front of him. No stupid sacks, no stupid pick 6's. Just solid ball and that bodes well for 2014. The problem with this new breed of Qb is that when they get hurt, they REALLY get hurt. Knees mostly. I'm not wishing this on Geno, but perhaps they could show him video of RG III's injury and then teach him to slide.
I agree. He had 31 rushes over his last four games. No Qb will last long running it 8 times a game. Running was never his game in college, so I don't think this it's a long-term plan to turn him into a runner. Hopefully teams have seen enough already to respect his rushing ability that it backs some guys off the line of scrimmage. Of course, the best way to do that is to prove it with his arm.
His running should be more of a luxury instead of something he does all the time. He's a passing QB that has the ability to run.
If I recall right he's wanted to avoid taking part in the cliche that all black QB's are runners first, in a way running more was an ego breaking moment for him where he found he needed to make a dash to help win a game every so often. If what he did in the last few games continues I can foresee him topping Newton and Kaep and such for rushing TD's a year. he's very good at it in the red zone it seems.
Its obvious that MM wanted him to incorporate his rushing ability to give the opposition defense more to worry about. With our limited attacking options we have been using all kinds of trick plays and variations to get defenses on the wront foot. That said he ability to run out of the pocket is a real weapon and one he should use when needed. Like Sanchez he seems to want to prove himself which is fair enough when taking on defenders but he needs to also be careful and just save that for when we badly need it.
If Geno is going to run more often, then he needs to protect the ball as well as his body. Taking guys on straight up is a sure-fire way to hurt yourself. He also carries the ball a little too loose. I'm not a big fan of "running" quarterbacks...especially with the speed & size of today's defensive players. Too easy to get your starting qb hurt for the season.
I would love to know Geno's QBR on those roll out plays he does. It seems like everytime he does it it works (usually goes to Winslow)
I am sure Marty felt the need to add Qb runs in order to challenge the opposing D's, but in the long run your running Qb is too great a risk of injury.
