I love Mike Evans, but I'm not giving up picks and Idzik doesn't seem to be the "new Trader John". Not enough play makers.....don't like it at all.
If you are in the camp where you dont trade picks to move up, then I can understand that I just happen to disagree. I am of the philosophy of trading picks to move up/to move higher into future drafts when you have more then your compliment of picks.... that isnt to say I agree with trading up/trading picks for players in drafts where you dont have alot of picks and end up only drafting 3 or 4 guys. We have the picks. i'd rather get the guy i think IS a playmaker in round 1, then have that extra pick in round 3. but again, if you dont subscribe to that, I can understand why. As far as playmakers, I dont think any scenario is going to have you come out with 3 playmakers who all see the field a ton. I think you are lucky to get 1 of those types, especially if you stay put. I'd look to target another playmaker or 2 in free agency, where the guess work is a bit gone as well. -Draft evans -sign Maclin or Cooper -Sign Hester thats plenty of playmaking imo for one offseason.
i can see the value in 2 tight ends for sure.... especially for a team that wants to run and throw off play action. id just prefer one of them be cumberland. and one of them NOT be Amaro.
Amaro looked very good to me last night and in the highlight tapes of him. He fits in perfectly with the new TE model in the NFL, big, fast, very good receiver and good blocker. However I'm only in support of taking him if the top WR's aren't on the board at 18. Also using a draft pick on a punter is a waste of a pick especially when every pick is so valuable for a team rebuilding its roster. There's tons of punters on the street always looking for work. Same as kickers. No need to draft either of these positions unless the guy has the rep of a Janikowski coming out of college. In very rare cases would I be ok with taking a punter or a kicker in the 6th round or later. And this isn't one of those cases. Also not a big fan of Renner either. Otherwise, good picks.
I actually won't mind Trader John. No, I won't. If they can find a way to trade down, they should. Of course it should net at least an extra 3rd if not better. Trading up? Fuck that.
Ebron or Amaro would make this offense much better. I myself prefer Ebron because he's played in a pro-style offense while Amaro was more-so in a run and shoot offense. Cumberland at best is a #3 and I think we would be better off with Ebron / Amaro and Fiedorowicz. Cumberland can't block and he's inconsistent catching the football. Not sure why I decided to bring up Ebron in my previous post lol - but I did see you neglected the TE position and that is not good in your lil mock draft, we need another TE as Cumberland is not starting caliber.
We need alot of things.. you cant fill 5 holes with your first round pick i think our biggest weakness is a playmaker. i think evans is the best in the draft, and i think WR is a more important position then tight end. im fine with cumberland and one of many other bargain options at tight end to fill out that position.
would rather we trade back and take seferian jenkins or wr than draft amaro at 18. afraid of another dustin keller.
This kid Jamison Crowder from Duke looks like the real fucking deal.. He is lighting it up right now against Texas A&M.. Not sure where he projects in the draft but wouldn't mind picking him up in the third or fourth.
He is the real deal. Due to his size and playing at Duke, he will probably not go until the 3rd-4th round or even later, but will be a steal wherever he goes. He's clutch. Got great hands.
So if we need a lot of things, why are you advising the Jets to trade up and give up a precious 3rd round pick? Getting starters in rounds 3-5 are crucial in today's league. Our biggest weakness is play-maker. You either hope Mike Evans is available at 18, or you look at the other surplus receivers and tight ends available. This class is deep at WR / TE. You maybe fine with Cumberland, but the fact of the matter is Cumberland is not a #1 TE, honestly he can't block so I don't even like him as a #2 - I would not care if the Jets do not resign him, if that meant getting a blocking TE to play alongside a better receiving threat. Someone must live in the 80s because some of the best play-makers in the NFL reside at the TE position ... If Ebron, a TE that plays in a pro-offense that can line up virtually anywhere on the field, or Amaro who is a pass-catching threat and you could argue has the best hands out of all of the TEs is available you take him. Unless of course, the Jets covet a #1 WR - then they could look at trading down and acquiring Allen Robinson from Penn State or Jordan Matthews.
Jeff Cumberland was a WR at Illinois and in High School, never played TE. I knew Cumberland, he went to a local High School in Central Ohio, my Nephew played against his team. He could have gone to Ohio State and turned them down. Cumberland was never a "blocker", in fact he was a speed guy in High School and ran track and was highly rated in the state.
Cumberland has been in the league for 4 years - and has never had an impact block. I would like a TE that could at least show that potential - Amaro and Ebron both have in college. Cumberland is a TE that can't block - the opponent sees that on the scouting report and he's on the field? It's pretty much showing some of our cards. Cumberland has been decent, I think we can upgrade the position. Regardless, we can keep him on the squad as a 3rd TE and if he shows major improvement, we could have 3 good TEs on the roster. I am not overpaying for his services though.
Such is the cards we dealt ourselves, eh? Hill is a WR who won't catch, Cumby is a TE who won't block...
Both players were and still are projects .......you don't draft projects (Hill) and also expect a player that never played TE to become something they're not. Cumberland is adequate at best, Jets would be much better with a play maker at TE.
Depending upon what you mean by "impact block", Richie Anderson was the Jets FB for how many years, and I never once saw him make what I call an ""impact block." He was able to get in another player's way for a second or two, but that was about it. I never saw him hit a defender solid and drive him backwards.
