I'll take whatever we get. Good, bad or otherwise, the record will be what the record will be. I don't have any expectations whatsoever and after looking at that schedule for 2014, I'll be holding off on any real expectations to 2015 or beyond.

    Until then: Que Sera, Sera...

    All of these were trades.

I definitely wanna be a little cautious with our spending.

3 years ago, the Eagles spent a lot in free agency and created the "dream team". They failed to make the playoffs.

2 years ago, the Bills had some money to spend, and brought in Mario Williams. A lot of people claimed they would end their playoff-less streak. They of course did not make the playoffs.

Last year, the Dolphins had some money, and brought in Mike Wallace plus many other free agents. And we definitely know how that ended up.

If Idzik plays this right, we can be a great team next year. But we have to be careful and smart with our money. I think it all falls to the quarterback position, given how strong our defense already is.

This will be a pivotal off-season for Idzik. Given our youth, our draft picks, and our spending cash, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a playoff team.

At this point, somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. I think the Jets really overachieved this year and next year will involve integrating more new faces into the offense and defense.

impossible to tell without knowing who will and wont be here.

-we still have a ton of holes.
-we still have no playmakers and the least explosive offense in football
-we still have major issues on the oline and secondary and linebacker
-we still have the leagues most turnover prone QB(whether its geno or mark)

Really, we could have easily been 4-12. geno pulled some wins out of his butt this year. im not sure luck carries over year to year.

my expeaction, right now, pre-draft/free agency is 5-11 to 7-9.

Those teams all had/have elite QB play. we have bottom of the barrell awful QB play. thats what seperates them, not the draft/FA. New england especially has drafted poorly the last 6-7 years.

Trades/FA have a huge impact. having a QB matters most. Your likely not building a winner through the draft unless you land an elite qb

There is no savior in free agency. No one person to break the bank for
Besides, it looks like we have some Free Agent decisions of our own that will eat up some
cap space... Colon, Austin Howard, Nick Folk, Calvin Pace, Jeff Cumberland, among others

Idzik's turn at bat here. I hope he brings in solid guys, rather than going for the big splash Ivory & Barnes are two good examples of what he did last year, that I hope he
duplicates this year. A lot of CBs/Safeties available.

Exactly. Use the $ to lock up the guys you want to keep (MoWilk being the big one IMO), then go bargain hunting. Almost all FAs have warts - that is the reason they are FAs!

Everybody is going to be expecting a better team. I think it all relies on how we fill holes but most importantly if Geno is our starter next year, it's all about how he plays. The games where he played decently we won, the games he threw 2-3 picks we lost. This team more than any others success will be dependent on how Geno grows over the off season.

Dont think I have looked forward to the next season as much as I did 1998. We have the draft picks, We have the money to spend. This off season should be huge if all is done right. I have to trust our GM will do the right thing.

The Jets exceeded everybody's expectations this season?

Only if they bought in to the media's bullshit in the 1st place.

More than a few here certainly did...

Expectations really shouldn't be as high as you people think, IMO.

Our offense still isn't good and our secondary is bad. If we don't upgrade the line, WR, QB, and secondary, we will at best, go 9-7 (seeing how we went 8-8 this year, it's one game better).

    Me too.

Rex kept mentioning that people needed to take into account that he missed that crucial rookie offseason because he was recovering from his injury/surgery. He was able to study film but he didn't get to work on his technique that much before the season- so all of a sudden he was thrown in with the sharks and made mistakes. Hopefully that's what was causing his problems earlier in the year, and it was just a case of not really being ready yet, as opposed to him being a bust.

No but I realize Mark is gone, I hope they can cut him and re-sign him to a cap friendly deal to compete w/ geno but I would expect he will be elsewhere in 2014.

you are worried about the sched? we have no idea who will be good and bad, things change quickly in this league. Even w/ a mediocre roster the Jets beat some of the top team sin the league this year, I would assume we will have much more talent next year.

we will be a playoff team.

FA isn't being used to build our team, we have an excellent foundation of drafted players but you need to bring in players around those via trade/FA.

Pitt and GB rarely sign FAs but NYG has signed a bunch and a huge reason they won the SB in 2007 was b/c of 3 key FAs they paid a lot for- Plax, Kareem & Pierce. They also had a bunch of lower level FAs on that team. In 2011 they brought in Baas, Canty, Rolle, Boley- all key guys to that run.

NE was loaded w/ FAs in 2001- lower cost but still loaded w/ FAs and they have dabbled through the years w/ trades and FA bringing gin key guys like Dillon, Harrison, Moss, Vrabel, etc...
