Why not post this into the million other Rex threads already?

You thought Rex would walk away from being an HC? Unless he wants to be a DC the rest of his life he better hang onto this job as long as possible...

...because at this point there is no way he'd get another shot with anyone else.

I disagree here. If Rex was fired, I think he would have had a great shot to become a HC next year given the number of prospective vacancies.

Fortunately we will never have to find out if I was right.

That said, Rex was never going to say "no" to being the Jets HC because he loves his job. He's not a man for ultimatums.

I agree, Rex would get hired by another team just for the shear PR that comes with him.

I could see Rex being a leading candidate for both the Browns and Vikings. Guy would have multiple choices if we ever let him go.

This is nonsense, there is definitely a possibility he could get a hc job again.

He would end up in Tampa and that defense would be disgusting.

    Thank You Woody/Idzik

This is dumb. Also- he has a contract next year. He's not going to quit.

No way! He hasn't shown any ability to coach a whole football team. He has shown he can run a defense very well.

Plus, He's too much like his dad. He brings the Ryan with him and most teams don't want that.

Unless he turns the Jets fortunes around he will not get another shot to HC, just like his dad.

I never said he was gonna quit, the op suggested it. I said it wasn't gonna happen.

Are you kidding me, if I'm Jerry Jones I'd dump Jason Garrett in the middle of the pacific ocean for Rex.

Rex can't say no. It's not like he'd want to anyway but he has a contract with the Jets and his options for next year are to coach the Jets or to work outside the NFL somewhere.

This is the job Rex wants. If it takes him having a great year next year to keep it then that's what he is going to be focused on.

This is what I think also. He'd be in Tampa in a heartbeat.

Yes, if Rex was fired here, the following would happen

    1. He would get another HC job in short order
    2. His new team would make a big splash about it
    3. He'd make a habit of beating the Jets whenever possible

    Agree

Rex is the face of the Jets.
    Rex wants to be here
He wants to win an SB here
Our fastest chance to win a SB is with him

he wants to be here... that can't be overstated enough. he's not unhappy here, he loves the job and the team. i wouldn't be surprised if there was some moderate negotiating for an extension or pay raise at some point but he isn't likely to get greedy about this.

I'm not so sure about that. They were just talking about that on the NFL Network. No extension has been announced, and they said they thought that still had to be worked out. If the Jets only offer a 1-year extension, do you think Rex would accept it?

Rex would find a job elsewhere. He still cant just leave though because if he left he would have to sit out a year and wait for his contract to end.
