gotta give rookies a break. the nfl has got to be the toughest pro sport for a rookie. so many schemes and plays...it's about much more than just-talent. some guys take a few games and some take a season or two. these guys seem to have earned another shot, at the least.
Dee showed sign of improvement here and there throughout the season, but the last two games Milliner showed why he was the top CB in the draft.
Exactly what I was thinking. Some of the worst types of fans are the ones that would rather be right than their own team be successful.
Not saying they don't deserve another chance but they both better have competition for their respective positions next camp. Neither of them should be considered the "starter" and should have to beat out the competition to EARN that title.
I said it on draft day. I said it mid - way through the season. I will say it again now. Milliner was absolutely the right choice to make given who was still on the board at 9. It was not a reach, it was not drafting to replace Revis - it was purely following the right draft strategy of the BPA. Dee will be a cornerstone of this defense for the foreseeable future. Did he have and will he still have some growing pains, absolutely, but for the last 6 games (not 2) he has been nowwhere near the liability that some would have you believe. He is top tier talent. The fact that some wanted to call him a bust after a handful of games is laughable.
he made a few plays the last 2 games but he also got beaten like a rented mule more times than i can count. its so bad at this point that opposing offenses stopped going after the safeties and lbs and just decided to go after him and him alone.
Bingo. The past two/three games do not excuse for him to bad play all season long. Hopefully he gets it together next season; the OTAs that he will be attending this go around should help him greatly.
Best thing about these last two games was milliner. He still has a way to go but showed major signs of life . If he becomes a solid starter even, that is huge for this team. He has to play the ball when he trailing a play better but I think that will come. He's right there in coverage and has showed he can close on the routes in front of him. He also impressed me on that deep ball to Wallace he broke up that could have been pass interference. He showed his speed by hanging stride for stride with Wallace.
Well said. Every CB in the league, Revis included, is gonna get beat from time to time. He's been significant progress since the beginning of the season, and there's reason to believe he'll have a productive career.
What I was really impressed with is the fact Rex had the balls to match up Dee with Gordon/Wallace the last two weeks instead of Cro. That's a hell of a coaching decision when your job is on the line. Dee stepped up big time for Rex.
Neither Gordon nor Wallace is the kind of receiver you press and run with. It's too easy for them to beat you on the first step and you can't catch them after that. So Milliner was mostly giving them a bit of a cushion and then turning and running with them. He's better doing that than pressing and trying to mirror his man for the entire route. Alabama plays some press defense but not as much as the Jets do by a long shot. I think it took the Jets coaching staff and Milliner awhile to absorb the likelihood that being in press coverage 70% of the time wasn't going to work well for him.
And he did it a lot of times with no safety help over the top. If I were Dee I'd be like "serious coach?!?!"
Although, Milliner lacks press coverage experience, he has all the physical tools you would want in a good press CB. I think he can be coached up to become a solid press CB. The same couldn't have been said about Wilson.
