Solid end to the season for Geno - I still believe that we need a vet as well as another rookie that would be 3rd on the depth chart. Shaun Hill and David Fales come to mind.
No, I'm just not a blind Genomiac like you fanboys. Two good games in a row is great but it doesn't come close to negating a years worth of terrible play. He had 3 good games this year versus 13 bad to terrible ones. His rookie season was so far from being like that of RG3, Wilson, or Newton, so if you post a stupid stat like that I'm going to call it out. I never said those guys were good. I'm one of the most vocal RT haters on here. Everyone knows Eli sucks. Flacco has most wins in the league since he entered but he puts up stinkers like today. I dont consider him elite.
yup, then theres the semi elite crowd with B Roth and etc. the turnovers have been the major issue unquestionably, but the way he's looked the last few games gives a somewhat encouraging sign that he's grasped the offense and can play effectively in it. for any involved who want a franchise QB to hit the ground running thats not good enough at all, but for those who are willing to take progress as it comes in a reasonable amount of time (Not too long or short) this is decent start so long as he improves over the next 8 months.
rookie quarterbacks have a very tough time in this league. i'm not sure why anyone would not expect troubles. but this guy has shown a good deal of upside. more than we've seen in a while. like rex, i'd say he has easily earned an encore.
Because Geno is the first rookie quarterback to turn the ball over a bunch. With the worst offensive talent in the league.
not just turnovers, terrible turnovers bad footwork inaccurate can't read defenses these are my issues with Geno. I'm glad he had a good two games to end the season. He is still a very big project and needs a lot of improvement. A few of the rookies in this coming draft would be instant upgrades in all these areas, that's just a fact.
So I took the stats from the last 4 games, and converted his rushing yards, and tds into passing yards, and tds, and it came out to 976 yards, 7 td, 2 int, and a 98.9 qbr. His last fumble was week 11. His last multi-turnover game was week 12. Since he started being more daring, using his feet more, his overall production started to really improve. He has done enough to warrant the front running spot for QB for the NYJ next year. For awhile I was thinking it'd be nice to get a Ben, or Cutler, but now at the end of week 17? I'll take Geno's salary, and I'd be cool with a veteran QB, or even one in the draft if it was the right value.
A rough but decent rookie season for Geno, given the personnel he had to work with (or lack of). I want to see how he fairs with better weapons next season. As of right now, he's still tied for the league lead in rushing TDs by a QB with 6. He's gonna have to continue to use his legs when plays die or if called upon to use them as the original call.
If a QB falls to us in the draft, I still want one and a veteran QB. Geno hasn't squashed all my doubt, still a lot left
name him the starter now, sign a career back up keep simms as 3rd. add some explosiveness either in f.a. or draft and let him get more comfortable with marty and the offense. the kid can play when he isn't thinking. repetition is the only way to take the brain out of it
No. It's an opinion. If you claim that you know that some of the QBs coming out this year will be better than Smith, you are full of shit. You've been a member of this board for two seasons and virtually every post has been negative. Is there anything you like about the Jets? Is there an position besides QB that you even talk about? The odds are that Smith will be the starter next season. You are going to have to live with that and maybe, just maybe, hope that he improves with an offseason of reps as the starter and better talent to play with. I think you would rather be right with your opinion of Smith than be wrong and have Smith and the Jets succeed, and that is pretty screwed up.
we still need to bring in a vet, maybe on a one or two year deal. drafting a rookie isn't an impossibility regardless. let things play out and keep the best 3 between the vet, rookie, Smith and Simms as a backup, and don't hand Smith the job. Geno is the teams focus next year though, he should be #1 on the depth chart going into spring but that shouldn't be a given all year.
I have a feeling if you never saw that article written by that rc fisher guy you wouldn't be ragging on him so hard.
The most important thing to me is that by the end of the year Geno improved. That not going to name him the starter but with some better skill players I think he ca be a good starter.
