I didn't post this because I don't want the Jets to draft a WR in the first round. I posted it to show that, if they do, it will take a year or three for any such player to be productive. On this board of self-proclaimed talent scouts, if a first round pick has a bad preseason game or TC practice, the bust talk starts immediately.
Some guys step in right away as very strong receivers. They're not at their peak yet but they're good enough to catch 60 of the 90 balls that will become their prime seasons. Marqise Lee looks like he's going to be an excellent NFL receiver. The injury concerns are there because he's not very big and he did have a down year this year when he was banged up for a lot of the year. His down year was still 57 catches and leading his team in that category. If the Jets decided to draft a rookie receiver to come in and actually play a lot for them he'd be the guy to go get and because of the injuries his stock has dropped to mid 1st round which is about where the Jets will be picking. The concerns about Lee are not about whether he'll be able to play well at the NFL level. The concerns are about whether he can stay healthy or not. He has Steve Smith written all over him, the guy in Carolina not the other guy.
The top 2 rookie wide receivers are Robert Woods and Keenan Allen. Before the draft, almost every draft analyst said they were the most NFL ready wide receivers. They were right?
They both came out of WCO's and went into an NFL WCO. It's the easiest transition to make from college to the NFL for a receiver.
Pretty good comparison, I think of Greg Jennings as well. I think we will be out of the Watkins, Evans race. Lee will be available for the Jets more than likely. Hopefully he doesn't have an attitude like Holmes. If we get Lee, we will need the following two things. 1. New WR coach 2. Holmes off the team - I don't want Holmes having any influence on Lee what-so-ever.
That's why I hope that the Jets load up on receivers so that they don't have to depend on the rookie to be a huge factor in year 1. Signing Jeremy Maclin, Hakim Nicks/Golden Tate, plus Kerley, Nelson and Hill. The rookie would be a 5th or 6th receiver and he can develop at his own pace.
7 of these guys have more yards than our leading WR (Kearly - 483). 9 of them have at least as many TDs (3) as our leading WR. Bottom line is this team needs talent at wide receiver. ANY help is a good thing for this team.
OTH why not chart all the WRs who made a impact in there 1st year in the league. I would suspect it would be just as long as your list Without doing a google I can come up with Rice, Megatron, Sauer, Dez just to name a few :sad:
Drafting any WR isn't an insta-fix for our offense but Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans or Marquise Lee would be a huge step in the right direction
It's not an instant fix, but I think you can expect that a high-end rookie WR prospect that will be given a prominent role in the offense (as almost certainly will be the case for us) can give you 700-900 yards, 5-7 TDs, and some big impact plays. Guys like Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, and Marqise Lee are simply more talented and gifted players than any WR currently on our roster. There is an adjustment period, but they have the ability to make plays that no one on our roster really can. It's worth a chance in my mind. I know you can find good WRs anywhere in the draft, but the best bet for a star is early on. Isn't it time this team at least tried to obtain star talent at WR in a pass-first league?
I agree, I don't like using totals for it because we have 0 receivers who played all 15 games so far. Using totals while if extrapolated probably still show those receivers outplaying ours, but I think it's slightly misleading since we have 0 wide receivers who played the whole season. I'm basically nitpicking for no reason
Yea I dont know how anyone here could complain about any of those picks. We need Offensive talent so badly and picking a first rounder WR will do us a lot of good. I think we need to go 2nd round tackle/guard/TE as well.
The draft in general is not where you look for quick fixes. You draft a WR because we are desperate for talent at the position.
I'd like to see us bring in 2 FA WR's and draft 2 WR's early if possible. We are in desperate need of WR talent. Hopefully that creates strength at the position, or at the very least competence.
This is one of the best and deepest WR classes in a long time. There are easily 10 guys that can go in the first 2 rounds. Ive never heard of that before.
