There are a couple of QB's in this draft that are better prospects than Geno. Bridgewater and Manziel and Manziel is a very risky proposition. Last year's QB pool was not deep but Derek Carr wasn't going to be the top 10 QB that was missing. One of the two guys above would have been. If neither Bridgewater nor Manziel comes out this draft is no better than last years for QB's.
So Carr is dealing with what Geno does every Sunday. Any logic on Boyd being twice as good as Geno? I like Bridgwater and Manziel the most but they will be gone. Also like Fales, Murray, Mettenberger who all would be great middle round selections. But saying any of them are better than Geno is premature.
Better arm, more accurate, quicker release, faster runner, tougher runner, more elusive runner, can read defenses, high football IQ, 100x the leader Geno is. Other than that, not much else. His only drawback is his height. _
Carr hasnt had a great day, but I have been impressed with his ability to read the defense and make adjustments pre-snap. Ive seen a handful of times where he called out the free blitzer to the RB who then slid across the backfield to pick him up. I dont think Ive never seen Geno do that once. Plus, this could actually help us if we ever wanted a chance at drafting him.
Carr having a tough day, but no one on Fresno State is playing well. Another big drop Love the kid's release and arm strength though
This CB Josh Shaw has really been impressive. He has that Seattle type body at 6'2. Wonder if he declares this year.
Enough of this QB stuff. Stay with Geno and give him some weapon, we could easily be an 11 win team next year.
Is Lynch considered a draftable QB prospect? Or will he have to change position or something? I honestly haven't seen much of him, and obviously the MAC isnt the strongest competition out there
It's really unusual to have multiple QB's from lesser conferences seen as potential 1st round picks, and high ones at that. Bridgewater, Bortles and Carr are kind of an offbeat trio to be getting that kind of consideration. Bridgewater has gotten enough press over the last two seasons that the hype has gotten a bit out of control and is only settling now as the reality of his status, as a Matt Ryan level prospect, is becoming clear. Bortles is a typical example of a QB suddenly being seen as a great prospect and the smoke and mirrors descending around him almost immediately. Nobody knows what he's going to do against NFL competition and teams considering drafting him are making a Ryan Tannehill level guess at his future potential. Carr is a late bloomer who was not clearly draftable until last year and not seen as a potential high pick until this season. He's the big dice roll of the trio.
I wouldn't like Bortles with 1st round pick [since I am strong believer of the competition one faces during college days - which Blake had barely] but I'd say he's a fair game after 2nd. I've got to admit - I have watched every UCF game this season simply because of this kid, and I do have a very favorable opinion of him. If anything, there are the few positive points I came away with during the game watch: 1. He has an above average arm. What's better is, though, he does not rely on his arm to make a play; he relies on his coverage reads and accuracy on his passes to make a play. Then he zips one or two when he needs to. I liked that a lot. 2. Pretty decent footwork; he was playing in O'Leary's system, and was seen taking the snap from shotgun, and dropping back from the center - at times, off play action fake. He does have a lot of work to do in terms of [throwing] motion, but as far as the footwork goes, he was very solid. 3. And he was pretty accurate. (68.1%, 22 TD/7 INT) 4. And he didn't seem bothered too much in the face of hard pass rush; looked pretty poised thus far. That is, with Jadeavon Clowney breathing down his neck. [UCF lost that game, but Bortles did enough. (25/36, 2 TD/2 INT)] When he faced better defenses than he would in his conference games, he came away with 2-1. He lost against Gamecocks, but defeated Penn State and LSU - yes, Teddy Bridgewater. 5. He comes in a chunk - he's at 6'3, and 230 lbs. Even if he's quite bulky, he's surprisingly mobile for a guy his size. He initially came to UCF as a TE prospect, but he changed to QB - and it turned out all right, I guess. 6. And he can play in tough weather. And he does that rather well. So... if he's available at 2nd round, I wouldn't mind him at all. Really. Of course he will have to sit at least a year or two [I do not want to see him starting next year under any circumstance] but he will be all set to go after he's acclimated to the speed of NFL.
Still waving my Brett Hundley flag. Great decision maker to go along w/ elite physical tools including throwing accuracy. He was under immense pressure behind a sloppy UCLA O-line all year & still managed to move the ball & make timely throws. He seems really mature for his age..Reminds me of Warren Moon but better running ability.
