I remember the hit being legit, Rex and Sheldon being pissed, and the ref changing the flag to 'unnecessary roughness'. Anyone have a vid of the hit? I'd like to watch it again. Sheldon Richardson: NFL wants me to cradle QBs, not tackle them Posted by Michael David Smith on December 24, 2013, 9:30 PM EST sheldonrichardson AP Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was flagged for a hit on Browns quarterback Jason Campbell on Sunday, and today Richardson found out that the league office is fining him $15,000. According to Richardson, the fine was accompanied by a letter that told him to be more gentle with quarterbacks. Richardson wrote on Twitter that the NFL told him that he was wrong to land on Campbell with his full body weight, and that he should have cradled Campbell with his arms, not come down hard on top of him. Sheldon Richardson ✔ @Godforshort Follow Just read my fine letter.. 15k because I landed on the QB with my full body lbs...it says I'm suppose to cradle him with my arms. OKAY Richardson added that he wishes the league would treat defensive tackles and quarterbacks the same. “For Christmas I want the league to go back to real football . . . where every man is equal no matter the position,” Richardson wrote. That’s not a Christmas wish that Santa or Roger Goodell is likely to grant. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ss-i-could-still-put-up-15-or-16-tds/related/
What a bunch of horse shit. He needs to appeal this, it would be lunacy if they don't overturn this nonsense.
What? The penalty that continued the Browns drive and gave them a first and goal? That was BS! Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
The NFL is the Tobacco Industry circa 1965. The difference is that they're actually slowly changing the product to try to remove the worst effects it creates instead of trying to obfuscate until the legal barriers surround them. NFL players are just the tip of the iceberg. Concussions are much more damaging to young developing brains than to fully mature ones. That's the huge pool of victims that will ultimately benefit from the NFL's decisions to moderate the carnage. You will never get a liability lawyer to sign off on obfuscation these days. The risks are too great.
This is what happens when TV Ratings and Revenue trumps quality of play. Goodell is slowly turning the NFL into the XFL.
I'm slowly coming to the realization that the game we know as "football" will eventually become something that I don't like someday. That was a fair hit, the entire stadium and I booed the crap out of the ref for that call. Let's just throw the red shirt over the QB and not let him get hit. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Saw it live. And 10x on NFL rewind...in the act of passing, not late. In the midsection, not high or low With shoulder not helmet.... Who should have been fined and penalized? Amateur part timer and full.time incompetant Tony Corrente..that's who
Hey you know what: I WILL GLADLY RIGHT NOW THIS MOMENT VOLUNTARILY SUFFER THREE CONSECUTIVE CONCUSSIONS FOR THE ABILITY TO PLAY A FUCKING BALL GAME AS A LIVING. OH I GET PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ALSO? AWESOME Fuck this shit. Don't play football then, go be an accountant, pussy.
I agree. They should make them sign on the contract that they can't sue for effects to the body after football and go back to real football. If your worried about going brain dead later on in life, don't play, simple as that. You gotta pay the price to play football and make millions of dollars.
We've come to expect these horrible calls when they happen to Brady. But now these calls are being made in favor of QB scrubs like Cambell. 10 years from now it will be very hard to tell the difference between American football and soccer.
GOODELLLLLL!!!!!!! You're a FUCKING ASSHOLE! Every fan in America should write a letter to this clown. I'm writing mine today. EDIT: Written and sent. This nonsense has to stop.
It's not like Campbell asked for Richardson to be fined. The issue is the owners are the ones pulling the strings. They don't car if players get hurt but they do care if those injured players turn around and sue the league because steps were not taken to protect players. The league is being pussified because the owners are concerned that the risks these guys take could come back to hurt them in the wallet.
To be fair, we also got a nice flop by Geno this game that turned into 15 yards because Rex and our bench erupted in outrage. But yeah asking defenders to cradle the QB is going too far. They are trying to fix the safety through penalties only, and it feels rushed and the refs definitely are not sure how to call it
