I think either manziel slides or sammy watkins slides to us not both will be taken before us and any of these picks are huge improvement for us, worst case cenario khalil mack slides and we go defense again xd.
Is there any Jet fan that wouldn't be happy with Watkins\Evans\Ebron? Heck, even if the Jets picked up Clinton-Dix, most fans would be pleased. On topic, as Bradway alluded to, the CS has to be confident that Manziel is "the guy" if they pick him.
I wouldn't be opposed to drafting Manziel round 1. I think he's good enough for the NFL. For a long period of time? Anyone's guess. WR class is deep and we could get a good receiver in the second. If he's available and Sammy Watkins/Mike Evans is available I don't care. It's a difficult choice.
Manziel is not mature enough for the NFL. Not just on the field but off it! If he stayed during his junior season, then maybe he could be a high top pick.
Want nothing to do with him, that Frank Tarkenton style of play is going to accomplish nothing in the NFL. Just ask RG3, he almost had his leg amputated by nghata and to this day his style of playing has put him in a bad spot.
RG3 will be back to normal next year and I really don't think Manziel and him are very much alike. I don't think Manziel will have a ton of designed runs in the NFL. Most of his biggest plays come on broken plays. He is a playmaker in every sense of the word. The thing about drafting Manziel is that, IMO, he won't need incredible playmakers around him right at the outset like most rookies do. Not saying I wouldn't want him to have any, but I don't think he's going to need one right at the outset like guys like Carr, Bortles, and Teddy will. Manziel has also done a lot more through the air this year than he did last and I think he would fit NY very well. I don't know if I've seen a more mentally tough kid in some years.
He's more Wilson than RG3, he's always looking to pass and only escapes where there is absolutely nothing there. If you hear his interviews you can tell he's a smart kid, just that he's really sure of himself but not in a brash way. He would fit excellently in NY. Him and Rex would be money, although unlikely i really think Rex deserves a pass. 2 Championship games his first 2 seasons, but moving forward he should have less to do with picking any players from the offensive side of the ball. Leave that to Idzik and Marty.
Russel Wilson is the true re-incarnation of Frank Tarkenton not RG3. His style of play works pretty well also, Wilson is a straight baller. Of course he has the cerebral to go along with it.
2014 NFL Mock Draft 1.0 by McShay has Johnny Football going 4th to Jacksonville. At the 13th pick he has the Jets taking Sammy Watkins (WR - Clemson).
I would not be happy with Manziel in the 1st round. If he slips to the 2nd you may want to pull the trigger to get a competition going between him and Geno. I would want a stout OT or a huge playmaking WR in the 1st unless Barr drops because that dude added to our front 7 will be nasty.
Enfant terrible is a bad persona for an NFL QB. Manziel would have to grow up very quickly to succeed in the NFL next year and likely the year after as well.
There is no Mike Evans on our roster for him to close his eyes and heave the ball to. But he can be a nice punt returner for us.
Because of Skip Bayless ESPN draft 'gurus' have their arm twisted into getting Manziel in the 1st round(makes for better off-season story). So, as a cop out they put him in the 15-20 range knowing that teams selecting there have no need for QBs. Either a QB go top 5 or fall to the 2nd round. Here are the 15-20 teams as it stands today: Rams Packers Baltimore Dallas San Diego Arizona(10 wins) Those gurus are so sneaky. lol
FWIW Fran Tarkenton got run out of Minnesota and NY before he returned to the Vikings in his 11th season in the NFL and established his hall of fame position. He had 4 straight pro bowl appearances for the Giants from 1967 to 1970 before a really bad 1971 made them move on. He had a similar run with the Vikings before that. The Jets don't want the next Fran Tarkenton. They don't want the next RGIII. They need Manziel to be better than that if they take him on a team with as little offensive talent as the Jets have right now. I'll almost guarantee you that if Manziel gets taken by the Jets he starts the season for them and by mid-season they'll have a 1st and a 2nd round pick at QB and no clue who their QB is.
I am not a huge fan of Manziel as well. My type of QB is a pocket passer that given the situation could run. Plus we don't have the weapons around to make him succeed. To me he is too raw. I hope we look at a QB, but maybe not until the 3rd round (Mettenberger, or Fales). I doubt Carr falls to us. I think the Miami game is huge for Geno - he has to have a good game, clearly I have seen progression in his game but I need to see more. On the road against a divisional foe fighting for a playoff spot.
It's not a question of being a Manziel fan or not to me. I think Johnny Manziel is a great young college athlete. I have some doubts as to whether his personality is well-suited for the media and social environments the NY/NJ metro area will create. He got dismissed from a prestigious invitational football camp in which he was supposed to be providing a role model for high school QB's. What's he going to do when he becomes the toast of the town in NYC? If things don't go well at the start of his career he will likely have a grace period from the ravages of the NY media beast. However if he comes into town walking and talking like Johnny Manziel that grace period will be short. Then what happens? I have some doubts as to whether his playing style will stand up to NFL defenses. He played against inferior competition most days at Texas A&M. He will play against superior competition most days in his early NFL career. That's a tough gap to hurdle when you're a play maker and everything devolves onto you. There's nowhere to hide on an NFL field when the competition is better than your teammates and yet you are expected to make plays. Lots of great college athletes have come to the NFL to play with less talent against superior foes and fallen short. Archie Manning is a perfect example of this. No room for Archie to develop when his teammates weren't that good but he was the savior brought in to fix everything. I won't consider a Manziel pick to be a bad pick by any means but it is absolutely incumbent on the Jets to make that pick work if they make it. They need to have all contingencies covered and they need to treat him like the guy who could make or break the franchise because he's going to be that guy.
I think his "IDGAF" attitude is well suited for New York. He won't let the NY Media get the best of him. Manziel doesn't have to be a role model that is not what we are looking for, we are looking for someone that can help us win SBs. Would success get to his head? That is a good question though. He's a great college athlete, but that's all I see him as. He's a guy I think his teammates would go to war with though.
