that makes the most sense. but, as champ or others besides me who have watched this team since the 60s can tell you, the only sensible things they ever did as to hire weeb, michaels, and the tuna. rex made sense, as long as you continued to build the offense. tannybum went the short-term quick fix route, and spent draft choices like a drunken sailor on shore leave. team ended up with no depth and a salary cap problem that comes aolong with the short-term free agent approach.
if the jets fire rex then ill be pissed. we had a "Rex" draft this year, rex system with a new influx of players, then to fire him after the team overachieved? I mean that would be idiotic. We have cap space headed into next year. Let's give the guy some SOMETHING resembling an offense and then let's see.
There's no way they could possibly fire Rex, at worst they finish 7-9, most including myself thought thus was a 3 to 6 win team, considering the roster, there wasn't much hope, not possible, without making themselves look incredibly stupid
Here's an idea Jets hire Ken Whisenhunt and Rex who loves the Jets so much stays on as his DC However Geno is not a Whisenhunt QB at all
The difference is the Bears believed he consistently under achieved. Rex is clearly over achieving with this roster.
That's an opinion. I personally think his beloved defense has underachieved given what I expect from him. I have high expectations from his defense especially given all the first rounders he had on that side of the ball. The offense has looked like the shit it is but I've come to expect nothing from a Rex Ryan owner. The point differential is pretty terrible. Was it luck or skill that we were able to win 7 games with such a bad differential?
I know fans aren't experts, but I would really advise you to look at what the 49ers fan-base feels about Greg Roman.
the roster is absolutely junk. we have a good DL but shitty secondary and mediocre LB's. on offense we have a shitty QB, no receivers to throw the ball to, and a porous offensive line. but still seem to run the ball well despite those deficiencies. you may expect more from him, but how can you reasonably do so considering the talent on the team? most people thought this was the worst team, and one of the worst rosters, in the league before the season started. nothing this season has disputed the assertion that it is one of the worst rosters, and yet we aren't one of the worst teams. which comes to your last question, is that luck or skill? that is skill to coax the wins out of this bunch that he has. to have done it more consistently wouldn't have been either, it would have been a miracle.
Thank you for pointing that out. Players are not begging their agents to come here. A bunch of hype, but no substance.
Why would really good players looking for a payday want to come to the Jets this year? The Jets were severely cap limited. Top players and agents need to maximize FA with teams that have cap room. The Jets now have cap room. I suspect top FA's will be lining up this year now that the Jets are in a financial position to negotiate. Economic reality is not about the HC. To Rex's credit he did get Tomlinson here who was a highly effective player for the Jets in their 2010 run. He also got Scott and Leonard here who both were key players for the two runs. And who could forget Ed Reed this year.
