Okay, lost in our constant QB prattle is a conversation we should be having about the RB position, namely that we have found a premier back worth touting. Christopher Lee Ivory, violent runner, big play maker, with an uncanny ability to gain extra yards after getting hit, probably the best thing from the offense in 2013, and certainly worth the 4th round pick we gave up for him. bow down. :metal:
Idzik has made some wonderful decisions this year. Trading for Ivory and picking up David Nelson both worked out very well. I'm excited to see Ivory play 16 games next year... hopefully he can stay healthy.
Yeah Ivory has a surprising burst when he's in the open field too...very impressed with him this year.
The way he runs though, can he really have a long future? Can we reasonably even expect three years out of him?
4.5 YPC on the season 5.7 YPC in the last 7 games. Fantastic pickup. Hopefully we can see a full, healthy season of him next year
Ivory is a beast and most of us wanted him and we got em. Great move by Idzik on that one. Ivory has shown signs of being a premier back who can carry it 20 times a game and stay healthy as well. The only thing stopping him from being that guy is he's not much of a pass catcher, he needs to work on that because this guy runs the ball with ill will.
I like the fact that our backs compliment each other. Ivory is the power runner, Powell is the finesse runner that can catch out the backfield, can't wait to see Goodson added to this group. I must admit I didn't want Ivory but I'm glad I was wrong. He's been great.
And people were flipping out the went sent a 4th rounder to NO for him... funny stuff. Even though Ivory has been great in the last month, I wouldnt mind adding a more explosive, pass catching back to compliment him- sort of what Mike Goodson was supposed to be.
I've been thinking it for a long time, now I'll say it. Sorry to Curtis, but this is the best Jets RB of my lifetime, dude is an absolute monster he'd probably be getting 6+ YPA with a good OL. His stats are only half the story though he wears down defenses, hits so hard he's knocked more than one defender out of the game, unreal.
I like Ivory and all but let's see him do it for a full 16 game season before anointing him the chosen one. He needs to stay healthy for at least one full year before I'm sold on him being the long term answer here. The Jets still need a more explosive RB.
Listen, I'm well aware that he hasn't shown the production year after year, so his overall contribution to the team has years to go before people will consider him that way, but he is the most talented RB I've ever seen in green and white. To me Curtis was about consistency and longevity, he wouldn't just take over games and destroy defenses like Ivory does. Just wish the coaching staff figured that out earlier like some of us and made him the feature back earlier, or his totals would be more fitting of his skill.
Health is the question with him, I'm just talking talent. Goodson would definitely make a nice 1-2 punch from what we saw but I'm telling you Ivory is the real thing. The dude is just impossible to tackle and he has enough speed to break off 30 yard runs regularly, it doesn't get much better than that.
In my opinion that is ok, Lynch isn't an excellent pass-catcher out of the back-field. Ivory has shown he can pass protect, so he can indeed be a 3 down back - but we still need a dynamic pass catching threat out of the back-field
