If he truly said it "in confidence" and it "leaks out" -- then you don't really have much respect or control in your locker room, now do you?

I'll believe quite the opposite it was a ploy and Rex knew it would get out

    Maybe,
or maybe it was a disgruntled ass't coach who wants to bring REx down

if rex is fired I would be dissappointed. I believe that rex along with marty are the men to rebuild this offense.
that said, I don't like this offensive garbage. the playoffs have proven that defense wins over offense. the giants, steelers, ravens, seahawks, 49ners, have all proven that having a great defense can make up for offensive deficiencies and still win.
they should be the blueprint on how to build a nfl team to win in the long run. Not this passing league garbage that everybody touts.
the other thing is that the harbaugh brothers won with players they inherited, should they not be given credit for their wins?
I'm always amused by people who whine that rex won with mangini players.

Which means exactly what I said, A lack of respect or control of the locker room.

I do not consider a disgruntled ass't coach to necessarily be a bad reflection
on the head coach, and certainly not an indication that you have a lack of respect AMONG THE PLAYERS,
or that you have lost control of the locker room

Loved the win today. My favorite Jets game of the season. But it's too little too late. I don't think the players make the decisions on this issue. If it's up to me he's fired. And goodbye to Mark and Tone while we're at it. This team has to go in a different direction.

The word on the street doesn't mean Rex think's he's fired. He's trying to fire up the team and he succeeded. Look at Milliner stepping up and making some plays! The D has some big stops and Milliner had 2 TD pass break ups plus a pick. The future looks bright. Getting rid of Rex would be a huge mistake. He's making the most of the talent we have.

Assistant coaches work FOR the head coach, he is ultimately your boss.
A disgruntled assistant is absolutely a reflection of the head coach as much as a disgruntled player is. That's the biggest knock on Rex, he is not a good HEAD coach which requires a lot more than focusing on small aspects, you have to be in charge of the big broader picture.

I am not saying this is the case, someone else brought this up -- My contention is still that Rex made the statement knowing exactly that it would get run with by the media.

You don't treat an ass't coach the way you can a player
If the ass't coach is the leak, he'll be out, like Pettine,

However, if you go back before 1980...

Weeb Ewbank won the Super Bowl in his 6th season with the Jets.

If Johnson thinks the stadium was empty today he should just fire Ryan and see what an empty stadium really looks like.

If only Rex were the next Weeb, he in terms of personality is the anti-Weeb.

You really cannot even compare the NFL of the 80's to today, you most certainly cannot compare the 70's and earlier.

A more realistic approach is just look at the last 15 years.

If we get a coach that is completely inept that stadium will be empty quicker then you think.

The chances of there being a good coach out there available is pretty low

This is such an asinine statement. Why in the world are the chances of a good coach being available pretty low? Based on what, exactly? Just another guy posting crap like "Rex is a top 10 coach".

There will be open jobs next season. Some NFL Hcs will be fired and then a few (like Harbaugh) might take college jobs. Only because the top college coaches are paid huge money more than the NFL guys. I''ve heard maybe as high as 10 mi per (that usually is the total package incl salary plus some TV money, etc.) Hard to turn that down. I can honestly see Rex going to the Raiders or a team like that.

no, it could simply mean the assistant coach is an asshole who doesn't like Rex; that could be an indictment of the assistant and not Rex.

if you had an employee who wasn't happy because of his own personality deficiencies, by your logic you would have to say that it was still a fault of your own. that's a ridiculous argument.

Are we going to base our decisions on what happened when gas was about 70 cents a gallon?

right. Harbaugh left college to go to one of the historic NFL franchises, become one of the best NFL coaches, just to go back to college. I have some beach front land in Arizona if you believe that.
