Its just a "rah rah" speech i dont take anything from that whatsoever.Hes just using what the media says to motivate the team.
I like Rex, but the team has looked like total shit since the Saints game, and they look like shit again today. all season all I wanted was to be good enough for Rex to keep his job. I don't think they have been. I think a change is needed, unfortunately.
Insane to think so many of you think there can be no one better to coach this team through an offensive rebuild in the NFL that prioritizes the offensive side. Why will the defense take such a huge step back? We have the talent on the DL, its not like they are going to regress. They can succeed anywhere as long as the coach isnt retarded. The defensive side has underachieved anyways for a team that is supposed to pride itself on its defense.
Why would he say that he is being fired to motivate his team? If thats the only way he can motivate his players, then that says something in itself.
I've come to both of these conclusions too. Look, Rex played a large role in getting himself here. Busted draft picks, 2 failed chances to develop a QB, and ignoring offensive holes. This is a bad path folks, change is needed.
A good QB is pretty much a must to win a chip, name one Superbowl winner who did so with a QB who was last in the league in turnovers.
Exactly. If you support Rex- do you truly believe he can develop a good QB? I sure as hell dont. Bring in a good offensive mind and lets develop a fucking QB. Thats how you win in this league; you said it yourself.
even beyond that, the league rules are set up for the offense to succeed. claiming talent is the sole reason why the offense is not just competent but putrid is an excuse. coaching is part of the problem as well.
Talent is the problem. This team has not had any blue chip players on offense since Curtis Martin. Aside from play calling, they have not had anyone on hand to develop a QB. Do you think there is not a coincidence Geno and Mark have the same baffled look out there? You are correct about the league rules favoring offense, that's why this team needs the players who can score 30/game.
I support the Jets, I will continue to support them no matter the HC, I don't think Geno can be developed personally. Can Rex develop a QB hell no, he's a defensive guy. What he needs to do is resign and try to get a HC gig with a team that already has a QB in place such as Detroit or Dallas.
Shouldnt the Lions offense significantly regress though? I mean if we fire Rex and hire an offensive coach, our defensive is apparently going to regress to being horrible even though the talent is already here... Megatron will no longer be Megatron, similarly to how our DL will no longer be great, right? (and note, I am not talking to you, I am just trying to make a point in general to the notion that our defense will suddenly regress exponentially.)
From that list, Whisenhunt would be my favorite since he has had experience as a HC. That would be followed by Greg Roman, Darrell Bevell and Bill O'Brien. O'Brien might move up my list since he's a HC and has NFL experience. I'm tired of rookie HCs with the Jets. I think Weeb, Parcells and Kotite are the only experienced HCs the Jets have ever had. I'd have zero interest in Smith because he's a defensive guy. I definitely think the new HC needs to be an offensive guy to rebuild the offense. Another candidate they might want to consider is David Cutcliffe, Duke's HC. He may not be interested in leaving Duke, but it's worth finding out. He helped develop both Peyton Manning and Eli Manning while at Tennessee and Mississippi St., and has done an amazing job at Duke building that program. If anyone can build a program at Duke, he has the smarts, knowledge and experience that he can build a team in the NFL. He would be great in developing Geno Smith or another young QB if the Jets draft another.
Shut out in the first half at home against a 4-10 team. Rex should be fired. He can take Smith and Sanchez with him
talent is certainly part of the problem. but the coaching can't even get these guys to be average in a league where the rules are set up to allow offensive players to excel.
Lol no, players play and coaches coach period. Schemes are good for bringing out the best in your players but great players are great in any system.
Don't let the door hit you on the ass Dunbar would be the only big loss assuming we go with an offensive coach. They should fire Rex after this week if they already know they're going to. It will give them the best chance to get the guy they want.
