If Schwartz is fired will Stafford be on the trade market?

Just wondering about this after reading a couple of stories about the Lions recent struggles. I could see the Lions putting Stafford on the market in the spring if the new head coach would rather pick his QB.

That would put a whole different spin on the QB's in the draft. A team like Houston might trade down a bit and offer the Lions the 1 pick they got back plus another pick or two. Cleveland would be another team that would probably bite hard on Stafford.

Detroit would be a perfect landing spot for rex if we fire him.

No chance. Stafford is a top 8 QB. You just don't see teams trade 25 year old top 8 QB's.

I always thought Washington was the perfect spot for him, but there are severals teams he could go to and succeed.

That said, I have no interest in Stafford. That QB draft class isn't going to go down as a good one. Stafford, despite his numbers, has not proven anything other than he can throw to Megatron.

I don't know what to think of that kid. He's got a lot of talent and puts up monster numbers but it's hard to tell how much of it is playing with a HOF receiver in a dome.

There's been games where I have watched him and was not impressed at all, and other times where I thought he was quite good.

Stafford is undisciplined in his mechanics. Too many back foot throws. Great arm but horrible fundamentals. If he doesn't correct that, and I doubt he does, he is worthless for a team that wants an elite QB.

he's a very overrated QB, he has the ability to be a top 10 guy but people are blinded by his #s playing w/ the best WR in the game.

This is true. He has some very questionable mechanics. He's all over the place. Haven't they worked with him to fix that??

I mean, I guess I'm sure they have, but why isn't it showing up on gameday? That's what worries me

The idea that new coaches want their own QB is overstated. New coaches want their "own" QB if they don't believe in the current QB. And that would be something that is part of bye interview process with any prospective coach. Whether the Lions get rid of Stafford depends on whether the organization believes in him; they aren't going to get rid of him just because a new coach simply wants his own guy.

If the Lions get rid of Stafford it is because they no longer believe in him, not because they fired Schwartz and think they need to give a new coach a new QB that is his own.

He's basically untradeable and won't be on the market. The Lions just extended him and gave him 42MIL guaranteed. No way they can absorb such a huge cap hit.

better than Cutler but I agree they are kind of on the same level. I'd much rather have Stafford than Cutler though.

I would absolutely give him a look if available. Wtf do we have? I'd trade a mid round first for him.
