This is kind of shocking. You would think this guy would want nothing of this team anymore. I would keep him and offer him a much lower amount. Get a new number 1 and hang on to him as a slot of number 2:

I think this is more PR for him as he knows what is going to happen.

I agree, but I also think that if he is willing to accept a very low offer, you keep him on board.

I believe he would suit us very well as a number 2 or 3 receiver. He is definitely not a number 1 though. That's apparent

"Anything for the team" until he is offered more money (or any money) from New England, Miami, or Buffalo (or any other team for that matter), and then it is "The Jets disrespected me."

I highly doubt he is offered a significant amount of money more than Idzik would probably ever offer him. He knows he won't demand much on the market.

I disagree. I think the Jets will offer him nothing, and he will be offered at least the vet minimum by some other team. Talentwise he is probably worth that, but IMO he has burned too many bridges with the Jets.

Well, that leads to an interesting discussion. He did say it didn't matter how much the offer was, he was willing to stay no matter what, but again, that could all be hot air he's blowing right now getting ready to hit the market.

I guess we will all find out. I think if Idzik works up a deal that is a small amount, you keep him. Allows us to have more options on offense, which is something we desperately need right now.

He would be okay with a pay cut because he sucks and a pay cut no matter how much would be overpaying him. He is a good #3 receiver with a #1 attitude time to move on.

We already have a #3 receiver in Kerley.

Holmes no longer has a role on this team and should be let go the minute we can do so. He should be inactivated the last 2 games this season to be honest.

He'd be ok with a paycut because he knows as long as Rex is HC, there won't be any pressure to produce. All he'd have to do is show up occasionally on gameday and cash out. Shit, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. Ed Reed did. Bart Scott did. Don't think for a minute those lessons were lost on Holmes. They all paid homage to Rex as " the coach I wanna play for forever". The reality is, playing for Rex is easy money and Holmes would be a damn fool not to get some of it.

I think Holmes will be happy to be on an NFL roster next year. He never looked the same after his foot injury and that was always the fear with his strength being his quickness and ability to change direction on a dime.

What I'd be worried about is him staying on and the front office thinking the offense is good as it is. If we retain him, the WRs will be the same as last year, for the most part, and we didn't draft a single receiver in the draft.

If he really is willing to take a paycut I wouldn't hate the idea of him staying on. I do just wanna see him gone at the same time though. If we get a good FA and draft replacement for him he's probably gone.

Yes Kerley is solid. Might as well deactivate him not like he's doing anything while activated.

holmes is an odd character. all in all however it seems as though he is mostly a good guy. he does a lot of charity work in the offseason and despite the blow up on the field (which was justified by the way. youve got to be kidding me if you are going to hold it against him for not being able to take wayne hunter anymore...) he has been a good teammate and a hard worker.

i dont remember anyone calling him a diva in 2010... hes done nothing but try to help the young rookies this season despite his own injuries which have affected his own play. holmes will get over this slump and get his hands back. he has always been a sure handed receiver, and greatt catching the ball (it won him super bowl mvp for christs sake). if he truly wants to stay here, if he truly enjoys playing for rex and wants to take a paycut to stay, then us jet fans should welcome him with open arms cause he will find a role to succeed in.
