time for some facts Smith will have some veteran competition or draft pick competition in 2014 Suck will be gone, goodbye as soon as the 2013 is over thankfully /thread
True, but remember that CP never got by on a rocket arm (not that anyone is saying that about Sanchez or Smith exactly). My point is that CP was probably one of the least athletically gifted and most cerebral QBs in years. His main saving grace was his ability to put touch on the ball and, consequently, a very high completion rate. But his were a fairly unique set of skills that I can honestly say Sanchez doesn't have and smith doesn't appear to have. For that reason alone I'm more concerned about MS's ability to come back from this type of injury. as an aside, whatever you may think of MS, I think is want damn near unethical on RR to have put MS into the position where he was hurt. RR may have cost this guy his career and whatever you think of MS's ability he surely had a future as a backup. Even that isn't a given any longer.
I think this is probably how it plays out. As bad as Mark's play was last season, he did show a little potential early in his career. If he's not a shell shocked mental case, he's worth having back, but that needs to be determined before we consider it.
I'm going to give you 2 stat lines through the first 4 years in 2 players career. You can tell me which you'd prefer. 30W/22L/3T 841/1,682 50% 78TDs 87INTs ( .89 td:int ) 34W/30L 1,028/1,867 55.1% 68TD 69INT ( .98 td:int ) If Namath was our QB in this day and age all of you idiots would have boo'ed him off the field before he ever got a shot at the Superbowl, You do realize that right? And to be clear, Namath got worse after that, not better. In fact in just 4 years Sanchez is only 1 season short of Namaths all time winning season count. Namath got us the ring, and for that I will ALWAYS respect and admire the guy, But he was NOT i repeat, he WAS NOT a great QB by any means.
I hope our starting QB for next year is not on the current payroll. We would have been better off with Kellen Clemens this year!
Sanchez was serviceable with a great o line, excellent rbs, good receivers, and a top ranked defense.......if thats what the jets are going to have next year bring him back to compete. But geno would be just as good under those circumstances. Not everything is always perfect around you.....an nfl qb needs to make some plays!
Mark had his 60 plus starts. He can't complain (even if his fans do---always making lame excuses for him). When does a QB with his lack of performance get so many chances. There's a long list of Qbs also high draft choices who don't get four seasons and suck the way he does. As for his injury in pre-season: he was asked to play in a game. Now what's wrong about that. Why can't he go in late in the game if the coaching staff wanted to see what he could do esp when Geno is playing horribly. Actually you don't expect an injury on Mark because he had no history of that: missing only one game due to injury in four seasons of starting. Plus it's an exhibition game when players are interchanged a lot and put into different situations. You're not playing to win you're trying players out and experimenting with different situations. So give me a break. You say not to coddle Mark. Then why can't he play late in an exhibition game. He's not exactly Drew Brees now is he.
All i can say is if either one of these 2 gents is our starter in 2014 we better be the 85 bears to have a realistic shot at something.
a great way to divide the team and doom it to failure is to have both Geno and Mark on the team. Allegiances will be the basis of splitting the team apart!
This is a joke... You think if either QB plays well and is winning the team members are going to give a shit who they like better? I'm pretty sure the team will get behind whoever is playing the best football under center on Sunday.
Below is the 4th and 5th year compiled numbers of a CURRENT QB whose team may win a first round bye for this year's playoffs. Note I'm including the 5th year as well since this mystery QB was hurt and got benched a lot early in his career. After 4 years: 16W/24L 460/1,172 54.3% 37TDs 43INTs ( .86 TD:INT) After 5 years: 19W/31L 664/1514 55.4% 51TDs 53INTs (.96 TD:INT)
5th and 6th really since he sat a whole year out. But this too. I wonder if it's a coincidence that he really stepped up his game after that year of holding a clip board. Wonder where we have the chance of seeing something similar.
Could you please provide this supposed "...long list of Qbs also high draft choices who don't get four seasons and suck the way [Sanchez] does..."? And by "suck the way he does" it's safe to presume that these QBs also had winning regular and playoff records in their first 4 years too, right? No? Oh OK, you were talking about QBs drafted high in fantasy football. I can see how you can get the 2 mixed up as the line between them gets blurrier and blurrier each year. Here's a the secret to distinguishing between fantasy and real football. Always remember that in the latter, "performance" is heavily weighted by wins and losses. For example, Eli has been a turnover machine his entire career. However, his performance is only questioned when he's not making playoff runs.
If you're going to continue to defend Mark and bring up those 4 playoff Ws (and give him the credit for them) then there's nothing I can say to change your mind. Even the fact that Mark had the lowest 4 year Qbr for any starting quarterback in the NFL between 2009-2012. All of the pick 6s and red zone turnovers to some of you guys weren't his fault. But some teams tackle mediocrity at the Qb position and make a change. And I hope the Jets finally do that this offseason. Some higher first round picks you might have heard of who were not around as long as Mark are: Jamarcus Russell, Matt Leinert, Akili Smith, Heath Shuler, David Klingler, Andre Ware and even Vince Young (who is better than Mark). And there's a lot more where those came from. A lot more.
The only QBs we could bring in via FA or the draft, that would pretty much be guaranteed a starting position would be Cutler or a first round draft pick. Everyone else should be coming in expecting to compete; that is the mantr right? With that in mind, I don't see why it has to be Sanchez OR a veteran FA or Sanchez OR a draftee. Why we can't do it all? Restructure Sanchez, bring in a FA AND draft a QB. Going into camp most teams carry an exorbitant amount of players at each position anyway. That's what cuts are for. Have them fight it Royal Rumble style. With 3 different spots on the depth charts and 5 QBs to choose from, a "true competition" I believe can yield 60 different outcomes some including Sanchez and some with him gone.
Sports fans are fickle, especially NY ones. Not so proud of that aspect of being a NY sports fan, but your right, I actually do see a lot of Sanchez jerseys at the games, even this year.
