You develop Geno, give him the reps. The skill is there. He needs time, like all rookies do, and we can start to seriously evaluate him after a full off-season. Experts all said he wouldn't be ready to start as a rookie, he needed time, and he was thrown into the fire. He has awful stats this year, but look at Brady's stats when he had shit for weapons, the shit was still better than ours. He also had much better pass protection.

Geno never had a chance to succeed. Let's give him that chance.

By the time Opening Day rolls around next season, whether Smith plays the next two weeks or not will have next to no impact on how well he does. He's already had 14 games to prepare for and play in. The next two will neither tell us much nor add much beneficial to his development. It is what he does in the 8 months between end of season and Opening Day that will make the difference, or not.

And if you feel he has had no chance to succeed, literally NO CHANCE???, then what great chance will he get now?

The Jets have a responsiblity to figure out as best they can who should stay and who should go as next year's roster is put together. How Smith is likely to play the next two games will have no real impact on that decision. Meanwhile there's another Qb on the roster who has shown some positive qualities, but has not had a chance to prepare with a full week's practice (in fact I don't think Simms has practiced at all with the starters).

It's really about Rex and his agenda, not what is good for the team. sure Rex thinks he's doing the right thing. But it's really self serving at this point. It's one of the things i don't like about him.

That is what scares me about these next two games, Cleveland isn't a psuhover but they're not worldbeaters by any stretch. A conservative game plan might win the game with geno throwing low risk passes and Ivory/Powell getting 30+ carries between them. Rex might handcuff the O as to keep the game close and sneak out a W. The Miami game is a different story as the Phins are pretty good and should be able to have their way with us. They'll likely be fighting for that last playoff spot but it's unlikely a conservative gameplan will win that game.

To me unfair to label Simms a career backup just because he was an undrafted FA. Besides the guy has good bloodlines. He hasn't really had a chance to play. And I personally think he would have played better than Geno has over the entire course of the season. He has been impressive in training camp plus practice and has a big arm. So while I'm for starting Geno at least this Sunday I'm not going to label Simms. Plenty of UFAs have become big time players in the NFL. The hard part is getting a chance to play.

You're ignorant if you think that Geno Smith shouldn't be on an NFL roster. Maybe he's not a starter but he's an NFL quarterback.

Who is to say that Simms is not an NFL QB?

Getting yourself fired is not self serving.

Geno needs to continue to learn. Simms is McElroy 2.0.

    There's nothing there.

Marty said he earned his spot at backup QB. OC is part of the coaching staff last time I checked.

Starting Simms is not as crazy as it sounds. I've written before about how rare it was for Geno to have this many starts as a rookie. History tells us that teams generally do not give their 2nd round rookie QBs an entire season worth of starts to see what they have let alone 2 seasons. 14 games is more than roughly 90% of what the 2nd round rookie QBs from the past 20 years have gotten. Geno getting 14 and Simms getting 1 or 2 are more than fair amounts of starting opportunities to evaluate both players when you look at what was awarded to 2nd round rookie and UDFA QBs in the past.

I've got my eyes on how Kirk Cousins plays during the next two weeks.

I say when Geno shits the bed this week and we lose, we start Sims against the Dolphins our last week. A last Christmas present for the deserving.

yep - playing Simms is a waste - lets give Geno more time to play to help us to make decisions in the off season - because a half decent effort by Simms isn't going to sway anyone.

just curious - why are you interested in how Cousins plays? you would have more chance of trading for RG3 than for Cousins.

I wanted to try Simms when we had a shot. I don't see any point in trying him now.

you do realize geno sucks, don't you?

i bashed sanchez as much as anybody, but when management sent him in to get his labrum torn, what they did is replace a QB who threw 18 INTs in 2012 with one who's thrown 21 INTs so far with 2 games left to play!?

not to mention Geno was benched in 3 games, so who knows what the total would be...

if you hate simms and love geno, you should support the decision to keep franchise QB Geno out of harm's way so he can come back healthy next year and do whatever it is you expect him to do....
