He won the superbowl his 5th year. He also went 11-5 (playoffs), 9-7(playoffs), 12-4 (division champs), and 12-4 (division champs) in the years leading up to his fifth year when they won the superbowl.

There was no reason to think about moving on from Harbaugh, ever.

I asked which coaches other than Cowher won a superbowl after 5 years. You listed none.

Longtime's point is valid. Continuity is more an effect of success than a cause of it.

-You shouldn't do anything for the sake of continuity. That's how prolonged mediocrity is built.

-If you are having a lot of success, of course you try to stick with that plan. That's how continuity is built.

I did not say this. He MUST have gotten a lot of input from all the possible sources he could get his hands on. That's where the entire problem starts. [THIS was what I have been literally SCREAMING OUT for some time.]

Does HE have any fucking idea about how to build a team? What kind of football is he envisioning? On offense? On defense? How are the draftees progressing? Are the position coaches doing their fucking job right?

On top of that, how will he compensate the home grown talents? What kind of salary structure is he trying to establish? That's the crux of the problem.

    So... tell me this then:

Jets during 2009-2011 were more or less the 'ground-and-pound' team. Do you agree with this?

If you do agree with this, then do you agree that the rushing attack starts up front, from the OL?

If you agree to this, then how can you explain the departure of Faneca, Moore and Woody when there is no suitable backup? Are you telling me THAT is on Rex too? I fail to follow your logic here. Ryan is preaching Ground and Pound, and then is selling the entire offense short? Is that what you are telling me?

Moreover, the only vertical threat that Jets ever had in recent years is Braylon Edwards. When he left, the entire offense fizzled. So you're telling me this decision is on Ryan too, right? Ryan must have chosen Santonio in favor of Braylon. Right? And Tannenbaum had no fucking brain to think about the situation, right?

I believe this to be true, but that still doesn't mean he can't be an effective coach. If you fire Rex, it all comes down to who you replace him with. I think the "Rex defenders" won't have an issue if he is replaced by a more competent coach. However, I believe no one wants, or should want, to replace Rex just for the sake of doing so.

What do you mean for the sake of doing so?

You fire him for not winning, not making the playoffs for the past 3 years, and not fielding a competent offense or a top defense with all his hand picked first round picks.

You fire him with the intention of bringing in a coach that can field a competent offense and defense. We need an offensive minded HC to revamp the offense IMO. You fire him with the intention of bringing in a DC who can produce a good defense.

To be fair I think any decent OLB should be able to rack up good sack #s playing along side or behind the likes or Wilkerson, Richardson, Coples and Harrison. Pace is the last starting front 7 player an opposing offense would consider double teaming or chipping. He routinely gets 1 on 1 match ups with OTs, TEs and RBs or sometimes not blocked at all. Even with all these things in his favor, most of his sacks still come by way of good coverage.

What a bunch of whining cry babies that have no clue as to what the real problem is with the Jets, and that is, they have no quarterback to lead them. The crybabies would be singing a different tune if he Jets had a true talented/experienced leader taking the snaps.

I'm wondering if the total IQ's here equal the number on Smith's jersey, because it's obvious that all they can do is point to one person, the HC for all the blame.

I don't recall Idzik stating at any time since he has taken the GM position that he designated Ryan the man to make all the player personnel decisions, has he? Show me in any interview ot press conference that he mentioned this at all.

This garbage about the Jets should have drafted offense , lol....oh my now...we have no QB that is able to handle an offense so we need to draft WRs as #1 picks...what nonsense.

Sure you fire him....and expect to wait another 5 years for any type of progress to be realized...

that's right fire him so that another coach can do a complete revamp and get rid of all the players for another infinite 5 year rebuilding program...

This is what makes the Jest the laughing stock of the NFL....eons of rebuilding/tearing down/rebuilding/tearing down...

Exactly. Weeb should have never been allowed to retire and death should have been a breach of contract.

Why would you assume a new coach would take 5 years for progress to be realized? That seems like a silly assumption. Do you really believe that what we've seen from Rex is progress?

What assets do the Jets have that are unusable by a different coach?

Easier said than done. Intentions and perceptions don't mean sh*t in the NFL only results. If you bring in a coach that does not yield better results than what Rex did in his tenure, then it's a bad move regardless of how competent an offense and/or defense he fields.

Presumably the other coach will be interviewed and picked by the GM. The GM is going to bring in a load of new players over the next two years both in the draft and FA. Better to do it now then later.

I guess we should just be careful and keep Rex then. Wouldn't want to take the chance of making a bad move.

Only results matter, yet we should keep Rex? What results are we getting from him?

Of course Tanny didn't know how to assemble a roster, how to plan for the future, how to assess rookie development and the like. He was a darned bean counter and attorney. He NEVER should have been hired as GM in the first place. I think that most of the personnel moves were at Rex's behest.

With regards to Faneca and, Woody, Faneca's play was already beginning to tail off when the Jets got him from the Steelers. The Steelers were experts and knowing when to get rid of vets. He played well for us for a year or so, but he wanted too much money for the quality of his play. Woody was injured and didn't want to have to do all the work to rehab, but I also remember reading somewhere a year or so ago that he didn't want to come back to the Jets because of how the team was being handled by Rex (no discipline and accountability). Moore didn't leave until after last season and his play had dramatically tailed off and he became more injury prone.

No need for the sarcasm as we are not in disagreement. I'm just expressing that there are far more worse coaches than Rex available than there are better ones. And it's not a given that those better ones would coach here. Like "he who should not be mentioned", be very wary of the "anyone but" strategy. #becarefulwhatyouwishfor

I agree it could turn out to be worse. I just think we need to try to be better.

Rex seems like a cool guy. I'd like to have a beer with him. We had some good success with him early. But it's been downhill since.

    Turn the page.

Hand picked first round picks? Where is your evidence to support this? Because we picked defense that's somehow an indictment on Rex?
