25 different teams have played in a Super Bowl in the 33 played since 1981. Only 7 teams have not played in one over that time:

    Browns
    Texans
    Jaguars
    Chiefs
    Lions
    Vikings
    Jets

All the other teams in the AFC East have appeared in at least 2 over that time period.

Of the 7 that have not appeared, 3 of them were only recently established or re-established franchises (Texans, Jaguars, Browns). Meaning just the Jets, Vikings, Lions and Chiefs were established in 1981 and never appeared in a Super Bowl over the past 33.

    Merry Christmas....

Just a few more years until it will be our only Super bowl's 50th anniversary. Lovely.

on the bright side Manning is almost done, brady is gonna be gone soon, and there is no truly elite AFC EAST QB after Brady is gone -- so maybe god just maybe.

The Patriots history wasn't much better than the Jets through 2000. The Patriots have blown by the Jets in the last 13 seasons. If the Jets could ever find the right HC-QB combination they could put a good decade together.

Patriots have been in 6 since 81, timing the Niners for the most appearances over that time period

Look at it this way, at least we're not the Lions or the Cubs.. We've won 1 championship since the Vietnam War. They haven't.. The Cubs haven't won a championship in almost a century. Now THAT'S consistency.

Losing in the SB is an accomplishment now? Please. It would only hurt more to be that close.

I am sure the Buffalo Bills wish this were true.

AFC Champion does get a trophy for that though.

Please, half the forum wants to hang their hats on the back to back championship games in 09,10. Let's get all excited about losing " the game" before the real game. Oooooofffa

Is this where we go through self pity and feel sorry for ourselves?

This is a huge off season for us. We have decent draft picks and a ton of cap room.

Idzik has a chance to set our future up very nicely. Like mentioned already the AFC should be wide open with Brady and Peyton's careers coming to an end soon.

Our defensive line is only gonna get better and people already call it best in the league. If we can add an offense that is capable of moving the chains to keep them off the field for 40 minutes then we will be in the thick of things 12 months from now."Ill be waiting on the edge of my seat"

That's moreso in terms of evaluating whether or not to move forward with the current staff. In 5 or 10 years no one will remember those seasons.

Problem is we have Luck waiting in the wings and Flacco already has a title and is carrying the Ravens into the playoffs this year. He's not elite but he's in that next level.

Throw in you have Wilson, Kap, Brees and Newton in the NFC and it looks like the NFC is poised to go on anpther streak of being the better of the two conferences. I doubt we'll see anything like the era of Washington, San Fran, and Dallas dominating the weaker AFC but in order to win one the Jets are going to need more than an elite QB.
