I did get the message, but this is his fifth season. The team is declining further and further. At some point he bears responsibility for the state of the roster. And if he does NOT have input, then get an HC in there who will.
He had ONE winning season out of 6 before Mo Lewis blessed him with the Golden Child. He went 5-11 his last season in Cleveland and put up an identical 5-11 his first year in NE. So yeah, the minute Brady retires they will become just another franchise trying to find a QB. Those fuckers might get lucky like Indy did, oh, the horror...
to be fair I think he developed into a great HC, a chance he never gets w/o Brady. w/o Brady he is a DC somewhere today.
Its a tall order in the NFL to have both a good offense and good defense.Look at Cowboys offensive coach worst defense in league but great offense.Same thing with Tressman and the Bears,Saints had that problem for awile,Alot of teams are like this. Then theres those few teams like Seahawks and 49 ers ,Ravens,Bengals.Everyone shits on Rex when it comes to his knowledge of offense but most offensive coaches are the same way when it comes to defense.Bottom line is this team is close to being really good .If we add the right personal on offense i could see us being 11-5 next season
What's the point of threads like this? They always end in a bitching match between opposing sides. It's like politics, you can try as hard as you want to convince the other side, but they believe what they believe. People are going to hate Rex and people are going to love him. I feel if we fire him, we will take a HUGE step back in our growth. Give the guy 2 more years, draft offensively, put talent around the QB, and then we can evaluate him as a long term answer. People seem to forget what he can do when he is given talent. 2009 and 2010 ring a bell?
Why do people assume it's a fact that we'll take a step back, let alone a "HUGE" step back, if we move on from Rex??? What if we hire a better coach?
i don't know about 11-5 next year, regardless of coaches. We still have a lot of areas to improve in before we get to that level. but i fully agree regarding the Seahawks, 9ers, Ravens, Bengals, Steelers.. That model has, and continues, to work very well in the NFL. That is the path we should continue striving for, and i believe Rex is the perfect coach for that model. patience is hard to find amongst Jet fans, but its needed right now.
Rex is a decent coach who has proven to be successful when he's had above average talent to work with. If we get rid of him, we will need a decent coach, as well as above average talent. That's a lot of need. I say keep him on and reload on the talent.
Rex is a top 10 coach so whoever comes in will have his work cut out for him but we have seen it a million times how teams get a jolt from a new CS. heck look at our hires since 1997. 1997 hire BP, go from 1-15 to 9-7 2001 Herm- go from choking late season to 10 wins and playoff app 2006 Mangini- 4-12 to 10-6 and playoff app 2009 rex: go from choking away season to AFC Title Game.
we aren't far away from being a playoff team. One GOOD offseason and we should be a playoff team next year or at the very least compete into week 17.
It's such a nonsense excuse it isn't funny. The only time an excuse like that makes sense is when a coach is new. As in "we saddled him with such a depleted roster it might take him a couple years to win" but when a coach is in his 5th year? and the progression is sharply trending downward? COME ON.
Well, that's a little optimistic, but I get your point, and that's why you don't get rid of Rex for the next Bruce Coslet. I'm not the hugest fan, by the way, and I think a lot of Jets fans who post here vastly overrate Rex. I just don't think jettisoning him advances the ball for us.
except I don't refer to him as that, I said rightfully that he was a top 10 QB in 2010 which he was but he hasn't been close any other year so no he's not a top 10 QB. If you guys could just grasp basic reading we wouldn't have any issues. I think rex is the best thing to happen to this franchise since I became a fan in the early 80s. not only has he won the most playoff games but he made us relevant, even when we stink people care. That wasn't the case pre Rex when we were irrelevant. I really think he's done his best job these last 2 years w/ what we have had to work with on O that was healthy. Could he be better? of course, we get blown out too much but while they may give up late in games the team never fully gives up on him. last year we should have had 4 wins, this year probably 2 and yet we will likely end up w/ 7.
I'm with you on the playoff wins, but this nonsense about how he made the Jets relevant really needs to stop, though. A. Its not true, the Jets are just as relevant as they always are. B. Its no excuse for mediocrity.
I can see it now.... "please go out and get me one of the worst QBs in the NFL to make my job harder - no I don't want any sort of valid back-up plan are you crazy? what's that he got injured? OK then I want to start a rookie and make sure he is also the worst QB in the NFL - ideally even worse than the last one - what? what is it with you and back-ups - I already dun told you - NO BACK-UP PLAN AT QB!!!!"
Quick Question: Who has won more consistently with the same quality (or worse) QBs? If the answer is "nobody" - then it's unfair to criticize Rex for not being in the playoffs every year. Get him a league-average-or-better QB.
