In the NFC the 4 best teams right now are: Seahawks - 341 pass attempts, 419 rushes 49ers - 333 pass attempts, 412 rushes Saints - 519 pass attempts, 311 rushes Panthers - 400 pass attempts, 400 rushes In the AFC the 4 best teams right now are: Broncos - 583 pass attempts, 414 rushes Patriots - 523 pass attempts, 371 rushes Chiefs - 463 pass attempts, 361 rushes Bengals - 469 pass attempts, 392 rushes So in the NFC the two best teams are running much more than they pass and another team in the top 4 is a balanced offense. In the AFC the two best teams are passing much more than they run and the other two are also passing a lot but not at the same pace as the top two. If you have Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Drew Brees then the way to go is to pass the heck out of the ball. If you have any other situation at QB the odds are pretty good you should be doing whatever the opponent has the most trouble stopping and mixing in the other thing often enough to keep the opponent from overloading against the first thing. The Seahawks and the 49ers are not grounding and pounding exactly but both teams are headed for the 45-55 ratio that begins to resemble grounding and pounding. Note that neither team plays in weather that would force them to the ground all that often. They run by choice not because they have too.
Mike Tannenbaum was a Jets employee during the Parcells era. I *think* he was the cap guy but I could be wrong on that. He definitely had a position in the mid-tier of the front office though. With Parcells in town it was hard to pin down exactly what the structure was because he was the coach and personnel decision maker but he delegated a lot of the paperwork to other people while retaining the right to over-ride them.
Rex is safe if the front office really wants to see Geno get a shot next season. You bring in a new coach you need to expect him to want to select his QB. The defensive development and the lack of drama coming from the team make you believe Rex is still in control of the team and that the team wants to play for him. He gets next year under his current contract with no extension.
i see absolutely, positively no chance of this happening. it is almost impossible to bring in free agents with a lame duck coach. they want stability not well hey the guy is here but doesnt have a contract so who knows what happens. its just not the way things are done. i think it is quiet because that is the mantra that has been spread around jetsland the past 11 months. shut up and do your job. i am willing to bet that rex does not even realize that he will not be here next year. i am sure it will be discussed in his meeting the day after the season and the decision will be made within the week. i would say that day or the next.
This is exactly how I see it playing out. I think the media might clamor for a scapegoat, but I don't foresee any scapegoat appearing. Unless Idzik has issues with Rex or Marty that we don't know about, I think both stay for next year. It's what Woody wants, I think (from a few interviews that i've seen) I hope, at least.
Maybe they give him a 1 year not a lameduck extension but he will be on a 1 year run to win or go. since 2015 they will, if the 2014 off season goes right, have a lot more skill players for a QB to succeed and can bring in a coach and really bring in a QB to succeed.
I think a lot of the decision depends on what Idzik sees in Geno Smith. If Geno is the future, I doubt they'll break up the party and clean house in the coaching staff... doesn't make a lot of sense. However if Geno is just a stop gap to the QB of the future (that isn't on the roster yet) then it's more likely they go for the full sweep... at least imo.
You guys are giving Idzik to much power witch he gave up the moment he aggred to the Rex stays conditions last year.If your counting on Rex being fired think again. What did they think Rex was gonna take this team of practice squad talent to the Superbowl? The Front office has left this team empty on offense
People have actual reasons to be Rex Apologists tho ,Its diffrent then Sanchez,Geno,Hill, apologists. Those two AFC championships feel like a hundred years ago now but most fans use those two years when gauging Rex.We traded his best defensive player in Revis,Drafed a shit QB in Geno,no new talent on offense. He was doomed from the start this year. But i honestly feel that we should extend him two years if he goes 8-8 ,this way we can continue building next year
I mostly agree. As you know, I have never been a big Ryan fan and was against his hiring. The Ryan backers often will comment that the team usually plays well for him. Big deal. They are professional athletes who do not have guaranteed contracts. Of course most of them will play hard! I still like Ray Horton. He is a dynamic personality, but not clownish like Ryan. He got rid of the cornrows and is very likely to get a head coaching job in a few weeks. He did a good job with the Cardinals and Browns defenses and is really well-respected. The other two coordinators I like are both with Cincinnati- Jay Gruden and Mike Zimmer. I also still believe in Leslie Frazier. I think he is a good coach. He has not had much help in Minnesota and, like Ryan, has had terrible quarterbacking in a quarterback-driven league. I like David Shaw, but I do not think he is coming to the NFL just yet. Art Briles is not NJ/NY material. I do recognize that Rex Ryan is a good coach. Part of me would like to see him coach a team with a top notch QB, but then I consider the problems you noted. Ryan is not trash. I do understand the argument for keeping him. I think there are a few guys out there who could do better, however.
Tanny was the cap guy under Parcells. At one point Tampa Bay was going to hire Tanny away to be their GM. In order to keep him, I think the Jets had to make him their GM. HUGE MISTAKE! I never wanted Parcells in the first place. I never liked his greedy, arrogant, self-serving self. I knew he would bail on the Jets and he did. I'm grateful for the ways in which he helped the team, but he hurt the team almost as much as he helped it. He left it in horrible cap shape and with a bunch of older vets going all in to win. He left it with Al Groh, Bradway and Tanny. Woody was dumb enough to hire him then to listen to his advice when he bailed on the team.
