Seriously? He's already had 4 seasons. How long are we expected to wait? Teams don't have 5+ years for a player to develop. Personally, I just don't think he has the intelligence to cut it. He has all the physicality, size and athleticism he needs to be a great OG, but I don't think he can grasp a complicated NFL offense with all its responsibilities, especially one like the WCO.
Bottom line was Slauson was better than VD. Upside potential for VD is tiresome. Isn't there a statute of limitations on upside potential? I think four years is certainly past that point.
Sorry. Slauson was really lousy last year & was never above average to begin with. He has decent strength/technique but stinks at the point of attack, has average feet & has no mobility for pulling. Happy to see him doing well in Chicago but letting him go was the right call.
I don't think Vlad should have ever lost his starting job this year, he played better than Winters has and a lot of the early struggles on the line were Brick and Mangold, not Vlad. Vlad has also never played where he is probably best suited for in the NFL, Right Guard.
They went to Winters too soon. Ducasse deserved one more week.Mixed into those penalty filled games were some really good drive blocking & pass pro. Winters looks to have a bright future but he clearly is not there yet.
Id hope Mac considers it since they basically ignored oline in the draft. Winters should be no sure thing to make this roster.
He's not a good guard. The Bears have $22M in cap space and they were slated to pay him about $3M this year. They got back $2.6M in cap space of his overall $3.4M figure.
Resign the beast. Either he or Carpenter will have to switch sides but should be better than Winters.
Bears released OG Matt Slauson. Slauson was owed just under $3 million this season. The move is surprising after Slauson finished No. 18 in Pro Football Focus' 2015 guard ratings, with a top-ten rank in pass protection. He allowed one sack in 16 starts, and just turned 30 in February. While the Bears are moving on with second-round pick Cody Whitehair at left guard, a good guard just hit the free agent market. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5407/matt-slauson
no to Matt. Winters had some flashes last year. He was way too raw when they first put him in, but would like to see what he brings to the table this year. He might be a sleeper. Plus, playing next to Giacomini did not help his development much.
