One of my favorite entrants in the much missed Beautiful Women thread died yesterday at age 91, that being the criminally underrated and relatively unknown, but exceedingly beautiful, Eleanor Parker. Best known of course for her portrayal of the Baronness in The Sound of Music, she also garnered three Academy Awards nominations, but never won. Aside from her great beauty and several excellent performances, she is perhaps most interesting for how her dedication to deep character portrayals seemed to undermine her ability to achieve greater recognition and celebrity. She played such a variety of roles with great conviction that the public seemed unsure who she was, and she in effect recognized this. Some of her great roles included Caged, Scaramouche, Detective Story and the Man with the Golden Arm. I thnk she had a flawless beauty, but her face was so expressive that a search of her pics will show a wide variety of "results". A sad loss to be sure.
Hey BB, did she ever do any radio work? I listen to Radioclassics on XM radio a lot and that name rings a bell.
