Rex needs to give Rob a call, he had the Panthers offense shut down. Saints D have better players at certain positions but putting a spy on Can seemed to work.

I'd say double team Steve Smith at all costs and let the others beat us.

The closest game this reminds me of under Rex is the 2010 week 15 road game against the Steelers when we were really counted out. Most of our big road wins have been against offensive teams, under Rex we haven't played well against big time defensives teams on the road. Its either going to be not really competitive or it will be like the Steelers game where we keep things intact and take it in the fourth.

I know Brad Smith won't be here to return a kickoff but hopefully someone on this current Jets team can. Special teams is going to have to make a big play.

"What kind of ass backwards fuged up reality are living in when Jet's fans are the most reasonable? I listen to the FAN everyday and New York has some of the dumbest and most delusional fans on the planet. A Jet fan called in yesterday(might have been Friday) and told Mike the Jets should trade Geno to a QB needy team. Mike asked the caller what the Jets could get back in exchange. I swear to god the motherfuger said "the Cardinals are going to need a quarterback and we need help in the secondary. Maybe they give us Patrick Peterson and a 3rd?" I thought Mike was going to have a fuging stroke."

    HaHa!

You can rest assured Rex and Rob are comparing notes. Not only did the Saints have a spy, but they were really disciplined in the way they rushed Newton. There were very few running lanes for Cam to run through, and he was turned into a pocket passer. Given the state of our secondary, I'm not so sure that is a good thing, although I did see some signs of life from Milliner against the Raiders.

I pulled that off the Panthers site quoted above. Classic Jets fan. Surprised he didn't throw Sanchez in for Fitzgerald as well.

20-17 Jets, back to 0.500. A defensive TD (recovered fumble) and great Special Teams play that gives Geno a short field to work with. We won't be able to move the ball much, but if we can play a field-position game I think its winnable.

30-13 Panthers. Just can't see us playing good with the way Cin and Baltimore games went. I want to be wrong.

I think the Jets have to come out in a spread offense and let Geno try to throw on that secondary. Scary thought, I know, but I don't think we can run on them, and now Kerley, Holmes and Winslow are all healthy and at full speed. Maybe the only chance.

The thing that puzzled me with the Panthers / Saints game was that it seemed like Carolina purposely kept Cam in the pocket and didn't allow him to run much. I know he's trying to become a pocket type QB that only runs when he has to which is why his rush attempts are down this year but they made the team one-dimensional against a Saints team that is 4th in the league in pass yards allowed / game. It seems like they had a poor game plan going in.

If Carolina takes the same game plan in against the Jets and the Jets actually hit Steve Smith at the line like the Saints did there is a good chance the Jets can be in this and possibly win. If they give Smith room to operate, which the Jets unfortunately do, then Smith could have a field day.

Realistically, who would we use to double cover? Cro + ?

Our secondary is weak as it is. Leaving any other receiver and their TE open will kill us for sure.

Totally agree about hitting smith on the underneath routes. I can definitely see us doing that as well. There is no doubt in my mind that Rex and rob were on the phone after that game. I think we keep this game competitive but not sure if we come out with the W.

Our hope of making the playoffs is pointless if you're worried about the Panthers.

If we make the playoffs we'll be playing top teams on the road 3 weeks in a row, culminating with a home game!!!!

So if you're hoping we make the playoffs you shouldn't get too worked up over the Panthers. This game is basically a preview of any post-season run we might get lucky enough to end up in.

I haven't seen any film myself but have heard that Rob Ryan put a spy on Newton for most of the game. That may be why he was reluctant to take off.

Spread with a no huddle -- force the panthers into mismatches and take advantage -- they need to bring out something they haven't seen on film. They did that in Atlanta -- crazy formations, odd looks, quick throws.

I disagree. The NFC is a much tougher conference. San Fran and Carolina are going to be their 2 wildcard teams. Those two teams are much better than Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

In light of us playing the Panthers this week. I want to take the time out to toot my own horn about Greg Hardy. Turns out my borderline obsession with us drafting him in the 2010 draft was for good reason. Can't believe he went in the 6th round. That's the definition of a steal. He's is for a big pay day this off-season.

That can be a beat deceiving IMO...

Panther offense is all about ball control. Slow methodical drives that eat clock.....result has been Carolina has been one of, if not the top team, all season in possessing the football. Cam also has owned one of the top passer ratings on 3rd down and against the blitz.

They occasional try a deep ball but that really is just a test to make sure you still defend it. They aren't going for chunk pass plays like years past. They want you to stop them from getting 10 yards...in 3 plays. They want to eat the clock. Newton has a career best completion percentage as well.

Carolina definitely isn't explosive but they aren't trying to be in the pass attack. Newton actually has done a great job spreading the ball around....Smith, Olsen, LaFell, and Ginn all have basically the same stat line. So they pretty much have eliminated the old mindset of gearing the pass game toward one WR

Should be a good game. Jet D will give us issues. All 3-4 seems to.
