Although Jeffery is certainly a better receiver at this point, I don't think it's really fair to compare the two situations.
Why not? They both have inexperienced QB throwing to them. They both have a solid running game and the OL for both teams are probably average/below average. Its a really good comparison and it really shows you how much of a better WR Jeffery. The guy is a stud with great hands and a very good route runner. Things track star Hill can only dream of. Its safe to say (even at this stage), the Jets missed out once again by getting another work out warrior.
Im fucking done with this franchise. It pains me so much im not actually done with this franchise as i'll always love them, but TWO PICKS after hill? it just pains me guys
He should be further along in his development by now. He just isn't a great route runner & has just average hands. That said he can still easily take the top off a defense & might even make a good returner if he continues to put on weight. I see him as the long term #3-4 WR.Nobody is counting on this guy to carry our offense anymore..cause he cant. But given a different role souley running deep routes in certain situations I think he can be a very useful part moving forward. Kerley/Hill/Cumberland are really the only useful parts moving forward.None are #1 passing option. They're moreso role players The rest of the outside skill will need to be acquired somehow.Marquis Lee anyone?
I don't like him. His hands are terrible. He is like Kyle Brady in that I am not comfortable when he catches the ball. Ideally, Hill will be the #4 WR or #5 WR or off the team. I wanted Jeffery in round 1 and then to see the Jets pass on him in round 2 for Hill. Jeez. Watkins would be good to get, but not if the Jets have to trade up. Next I like is Lee. I haven't seen this Mathews guy yet. Kenny Bell is a day two possibility. He will make plays in the NFL even though he is of slight build.
For one, the Bears have only given up 21 (22?) sacks this year, so their o-line is much better than ours as a unit. Our running game has been carried by Ivory, not our o-line. It's been trash in run-blocking. Idk how you could even compare McCown to Geno. Or Cutler to Geno. Geno has been by far and away the worst QB in football. McCown is playing like he should be a starter. Geno is playing like he should be buried on a depth chart until he's ready. Brandon Marshall and Martellus Bennett take some of the heat off of Jeffery. I already conceded that Jeffery is , at this point, a better receiver than Hill. Jeffery was the player I wanted and the guy I expected the Jets to take when they traded up. I loved him as a prospect and thought he would go first round + he is a guy who was polished coming out which would have fit our immediate needs better. Stephen Hill is a work in progress. Do I think he can be a # 1? Possibly. A #2? Yeah sure. A Great deep threat? He already is which is why he holds value with this team and why we should not give up on him so early.
You could argue Stephen Hill has regressed. Thought Stephen Hill would at least have 1 reception each game. I would root for Stephen Hill more if he at least had some sort of impact, including run blocking
On what planet is Hill "already a great deep threat"??? GREAT? I don't think you know the meaning of that word. He's not GREAT at anything except maybe blocking. You must be high on drugs if you think Stephen Hill is a great deep threat. Maybe you meant great at deep throat because he sucks dick?
Why not McCown? The guy has been a career backup his entire career. The comparison was him and Geno and not Cutler. The Jets are top 10 in rushing. You cant say we are trash in run blocking and give Ivory all the credit. The Oline stats look worse because of Geno being a rookie and taking a lot of sacks. The Oline isnt great by any means but they arent as bad as Jet fans make them out to be. Part of a great deep threat includes being able to run other routes good as well or the DB will just sit on the deep route. He has decent straight line speed but certainly not a great deep threat at all. In fact, he isnt great at anything in the NFL. The numbers speak for themselves. There is no more need to defend him anymore.
+1. I dont care how bad a QB is, if youre a good receiver you can still manage to get more catches then Hill has been getting. The guy was literally shut out in a few games this year and his own coach threatens to bench him over guys that were signed off the street. That is very telling right there...
LOL But really, he can blow the top off a defense. There are not many corners who can keep up with him when he runs a 9. Whether he is being thrown to or not, he has to be accounted for over the top. In that, he holds value with this team.
Oh yea - his presence on the field strikes fear into opposing DC's. You'll never see a stacked box with Hill on the field - not with the way he can "blow the top off a defense". Since when? When was the last time Hill blew the top off a defense?
If consistently getting deep was the only requirement of a deep threat, Usain Bolt would be in the NFL. What's the point of getting deep consistently if you have not shown consistently you can come down with the ball? Not every ball thrown to you can land perfectly in the bread basket.
You can't compare McCown because he is playing so much better than Geno that it is barbaric you're even continuing with that argument. You absolutely can give all the credit to the RB when the guy is averaging over 3 yards after contact. That means he's averaging a solid 1.5 (something like that) yards before contact. We have certainly been very terrible in run blocking. It seems like I see Ivory getting hit before the line on almost every play. Hill does hold value as a deep threat. He straight line speed is not decent, it is 4.3 speed. Whether the corner is sitting on the route or not, he still has to be accounted for with a safety over the top. That is what I consider a deep threat.
It helps Alshon that he has Marshall playing across from him. Who does Hill have? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
