Carr not only reminds me of his brother as I mentioned, he really reminds me of Colt Brennan. System QB putting up big #'s, good arm, spotty accuracy, limited mobility etc. As the game temp got colder last night he threw a few couple that got intercepted. Doubt his warm weathered arm would excel in the swamps of Jersey.
We need to draft Manziel in round 1, McCarron in round 2 and Mettenberger in round 3. And then Murray in round 4. And Fales in round 5. I'm not sure what you guys are watching but adding a few WRs and TEs are not getting us over the top. We put weapons around Geno and we are going to be severely disappointed. _
He could have had 4 INTs and 2 of them could have been 6 pick's, one of them could have been a 90 yarder. There is a dick here who constantly dumps on Sanchez because his 2010 wasn't as good as we all remember because he had approximately 90 dropped INTs. I hope that dick, when he shows his face again recalls all Geno's dropped INTs when discussing how great he has been this year. You've got to be kidding me. Tajh Boyd would be a massive upgrade on this guy. Better arm, better accuracy, quicker release, better runner, much better leader. If he's there in the 3rd, grab him and let him compete. Geezuz. _
Well there are idiots here who don't want to use our first or second on a QB when (i) it's the most important position on the field, (ii) it's our biggest weakness--bigger than WR, TE, RB and OLine and (iii) this is a year when there are going to be a plethora of good QBs available--not as good as it could have been with Mariota but still, 7-8 guys better than Geno. I want a QB in rounds 1 AND 2, but if everyone here wants to wait for 3, then get one at 3a and 3b. Geezuz what are some of you watching? _
I'm on the "Sign a Veteran QB that we don't have to break the bank after" bandwagon and to address our shit secondary and WR/TEs via the draft.
If a QB is a franchise QB the value is always there. We took Geno in the second, if any one of 6 QBs are better than Geno then we need to take him. I don't want to build around a QB who might be flawed forever. _
you say that as if these guys are surefire franchise QBs for all we know derek carr, johnny manziel, and zach mettenberger are the next blaine gabberts, christian ponders, and joey harrington
Again we get personal when we have no ability to counter other people's points. I'd like to have McCown or Hoyer(If cut) or I'd even trade for Cousins if the price is right. I want someone serviceable and proven to be a decent QB who can manage the game or even make big plays over a flier on yet another prospect that (Might) be good. I want a body who can give Geno a run for his money and who can even beat out Geno for the Week 1 job come 2014. Worthwhile WR's, TE's, S's on the FA market usually get overpaid which is why we need to go to the draft route for this. Veteran QBs can be had.
It is the "Gushing over prospects" mentality plenty of sport fans have. Especially for baseball. Your team's prospects/young players get overvalued because of sentimental value that you got to see them drafted and raised from your farm or from scratch in terms of the NFL. College kids always get hyped up coming out of NCAAF and get relied upon to do massive things asap these days.
no way we get manziel now. texans, vikings, jags and raiders pick before us. slim chance any of the great qbs in the draft slip through
You have no point other than you want Geno to be the number 1 next year matched against a bunch of has beens, never was's or 7th round back-ups. You're a Geno apologist to the end and can't stomach the thought of a true young stud QB as competition because you know your hero will lose. 2012 was an AWFUL year for QBs and Geno is proving that out. 2013 even without Mariota will be a superior class and any one or 7 QBs "could" be better. "Could" be, didn't say will, but 2012 is proving out to be just as awful as everyone thought. But you keep patching up that leaky faucet. _
You don't read what I have said in the past clearly. I'm a Jet fan first and foremost but I also get that you can't just throw a QB out like yesterday's trash after just one season. Kirk Cousins is a has been now? I am not saying Hoyer or McCown are franchise QBs but what they are.....are actual professional backups that can spell Geno if he gets hurt or stinks it up. Get this team some young talent at the positional spots in this draft and develop them. They have less mileage on them, and go for cheap. How does one judge a single year's worth of QBs based off of 13 pro games. How do you write that off?
Gushing? No. Don't act stupid. You're smarter than that and you know the college game pretty well but can't let go of the personal insults, which is a shame. I call it like it is with Geno, it is just my take comes off as a ringing endorsement more because 80% of the board has a negative vibe about the player so that's why you get the misinterpretation that I am a Geno fan before I am a Jet fan or that I refuse to acknowledge any of Smith's flaws.
Anymore personal comments/attacks and going off topic will be dealt with accordingly. I suggest if you want to continue a relationship posting in this draft forum this nonsense will stop.
You haven't watched Derek Carr enough. He has excellent deep pass accuracy, and a strong live arm that can rip through Jetlife Stadium. The kid can definitely make all of the throws and has excellent ball placement - where his WRs can get YAC. The knock on Carr is that he plays in a spread offense. The kid also has mental toughness so when things get down, he keeps on playing. He didn't have the best game against Utah State, but he led them to a win and he kept them in the game. Utah State has a very good defense so don't act like they are irreverent.
