Orton is a better QB than Sanchez.

wait until you get a chance to watch him play regularly, he isn't half the QB Sanchez is.

I put this in another thread but Hill is 14-15 as a starter...in San francisco he was 10-7, in Detroit 4-8...but I'll caveat that those were some Detroit teams that make the current Jets roster look like SB bound. We look more like the 49'er teams he QB'd. I'd take Hill with some other F/A pickups and a heavy offense driven draft all day long and twice on Sunday.

I can't stress this enough...Cutler is a MAJOR head case and would get torn UP in NY. Hell, he couldn't handle the Denver Press/Fans. When Marshall was gone Denver went into the tank. If Cutler were a top guy he would STILL be in Denver. It's pretty god damn bad when you are gone and Tim Tebow is brought in to replace you. Agreed, Cutler has all the talent in the world...but his head is simply NOT screwed on right. He is Jeff George light. I'd rather have Hill...who will be a heck of a lot cheaper.

I'm not saying Orton is good. But he'll give us something we haven't had since Favre and that is decent QB play. Sanchez will get picked up by another team, but he's gonna be either a backup or apart of a competition. I don't see any team signing Sanchez with the intention to start him without competition.

just stop it, we had good QB play w/ Mark until last year- better than anything orton has done.

has anyone signed Orton w/ the intention to start him? if the CS thought Mark sucked why didn't they get orton last year when he was a FA?

outside of last year 2008 was the worst season we have had since 2007

I say draft one early. A Simms + Smith + new QB competition could be very exciting.

Yeah, I'd rather draft Tajh Boyd than sign anyone on this list.

We need veterans and rookies at the skill positions. That is where the real need is.

Mark Sanchez was never good, he was awful his rookie year. He improved in year 2 but was just average at best. In year 3 he was up and down and then fell off the cliff at the end of that season, then last year he was awful. If you think Sanchez gave us good QB play then something is really wrong with you.

If no one signed Orton with the intention to start him and he's better than Mark. So what do you really think the market will be for Mark? The reason they didn't get Orton was because Sanchez still had a little value as a starter so he got the benefit of the doubt.

So Sanchez in 09>>Favre 08? That's just nonsense.

I'm assuming you meant M. Simms....

I'm sorry Barcs, there's no way in hell I'm condoning going into next season with THAT as my QB competition. You have GOT to have, at the very LEAST, Sanchez in that discussion. Preferably a Shuan Hill or McCown. If the Jets go into next year with what you just described up there then Idzik needs to be fired on the spot.

That's assuming the last four games of the season go the way they've been going since the bye.

With healthy weapons, if Geno Smith suddenly looks like a competent NFL QB again, then he's going to get a pass. I agree that there needs to be a veteran around but only to fill the role that David Garrard is filling right now. If Smith continues to look like hot garbage... well, even more reason to draft another QB. In that case though having a veteran who could start would be much more beneficial.

I don't believe in rookies starting immediately in their rookie season but circumstances forced Geno in too early. Hopefully he hasn't been lost totally.

I'd love to have Kirk Cousins, but I don't see any way that the Foreskins would trade Cousins, especially as brittle as RGIII is.

not #s wise but he didn't choke and cost us a playoff spot and once in the playoffs he played really well not throwing away a SB chance the way favre did in his last 2 postseasons.

    Kyle Orton Career stats:

    58.4 completion percentage
    81 TDs
    57 Picks
    14,621 yards

He's younger than either McCown or Hill. I'd be happy with Orton as the vet in the QB mix too. He's also had more starting experience. He started 33 games over 3 seasons for the Broncos and 33 games over 4 seasons with the Bears (most came in 2 seasons)

watch him play, don't look at his #s which were mostly accumulated in garbage time situations.

I've never been a fan of his, but your statement that his stats were accumulated in garbage time is not true at all. He started 33 games for both the Bears and Broncos, and 3 games for the Chiefs. He's not exciting, but is 10x better than Sanchez has ever dreamed of being.

We'll see. I think Geno Smith has to look like he has a real pulse and more importantly like his team mates have a pulse when he is out there.

2014 is not a giveaway year like this one was. Not even if Rex goes and a new guy comes in. The QB in 2014 has to be part of the solution not part of the problem.

So if Geno Smith has something to contribute as a starter he better start showing it now. There are a lot of guys who had bad breaks and bad situations and never quite got there. So far Geno is one of them and it's really hard to get off that course as a 2nd round pick on a franchise that does not accept losing.

I think you are missing junc's point. He started plenty of games, his team falls behind and stat pads late in games.

Cutler is a moody QB with an inferiority complex. He also has type 1 diabetes and a history of getting hurt. He also does not do well unless he is playing with Brandon Marshall.

    Get Johnny Football!!!!

he put up nice #s in blowout games, there's no way we even make the playoffs w/ him in '09 or '10 let alone win 4 road playoff games.

he was so well though of by the Bears he was benched for a playoff game in favor of rex Grossman.
