O'Brien and Chad weren't failed picks they were unlucky picks. O'Brien would have been a better QB in a WCO with better pass protection. Chad just got unlucky on the injuries.

The answer to the bigger question is that the Jets keep trying to bring in the next Joe Namath. They want a strong-armed deep passer with no conscience throwing the ball around out there. The best guy they've actually drafted was probably Chad and he was polar opposite to that. It took him forever to get on the field because the incumbent, while aging, was a strong-armed deep passer with no conscience.

Other than Namath (& besides Chad), who would you consider their best pick?
    Ken "Mr Unreliable" O'Brien?

Like I've said, I've been unpleasantly teased since #12.....

O'Brien got the crap beat out of him his first few years. Too many long passes with leaky pass protection. He was probably a concussion case that went largely unnoticed in the era when the NFL was studiously looking away from the issue.

And yet Todd had an iron man streak going there. Impressive. I wouldn't have guessed that he started so many consecutive games.

Most teams fail.... Obrien was-better than most realize. Pennington was on his way to be a superstar. Injuries killed that. Finding a above avg qb is luck. Jets fucking have none

Either they suck or is injury prone. That's why I'm an advocate of bringing in a Jay Cutler next year. That way we get a guy that can play the position, and we groom Geno. But most importantly we will be competitive.

I agree.. qbs in the draft are to high risk. 8/10 of them dome come close to living up to potential. I would love for the jets to sign cutler. Unfortunately I don't see the bears letting him even test the market. Impossible to find a qb.. they won't let him go

Draft 1 every year until you get it right

All though I'd trade our 1st this year for Brock Osweiler

Five year stretch which makes you cring:
    1999 Ray Lucas (9) / Rick Mirer (6) / Vinny Testaverde (1)
    1998 Vinny Testaverde (13) / Glenn Foley (3)
    1997 Neil O'Donnell (14) / Glenn Foley (2)
    1996 Frank Reich (7) / Neil O'Donnell (6) / Glenn Foley (3)
    1995 Boomer Esiason (12) / Bubby Brister (4)

A LOT of one year wonders, because you wonder why we ever signed these guys.
    Bubby Brister
    Neil O'Donnell
    Frank Reich
    Rick Mirer

Yet our QB stats are actually worse these last five years with Smith being the worst EVER.
I truly hope they get their fill and he too is a one year wonder. When you are worse for the Jets than the likes of Mirer, O'Donnell and Brister you are really bad!

I would like to get Cutler, but his problem is the same as many of those on the list, very Injury Prone lately.

Todd had a couple of nice years, as did Vinny. There just isn't a very deep pool of talent to fish out of. Run this list for the Cardinals, Bengals, Lions and Falcons.

Why do you think this is a Jets problem? Look around the league. You can run a list for every other team in the league and when you see a long period of time between championships you will see a long list of misses at the QB spot. Check out Buffalo since Jim Kelly and Miami since Marino (who of course didn't win a Super Bowl.)

because every other franchise in the NFL continuously brings in elite QB's.

or maybe drafting QB's is simply a difficult proposition to project from NCAA success.

It's getting easer to do now because drafting a QB early wont set a franchise back because of cap #'s.

I believe we will see a lot more teams taking QB's in the 2nd and 3rd rounds wheater they need them or not just to fish for a possible star.

Speaking more recently, the Jets have had no commitment to building an offensive power house. They've treated the quarterback position as a plug and play position while focusing on a power house defense.

The results speak for themselves: the defense is very good to great, and the offense blows.

Run it for the Steelers. They went more than two decades between Bradshaw and Roethlisberger and didn't win a Super Bowl in that 25 year period.

People ragging on the Jets for not finding a QB need to understand that most teams don't find QB's when they need them. They find QB's when they get lucky.

No team has had a good to great QB in every decade since the merger.
