Well if he is a "work in progress" as U state that somebody in our organization sure blundered because of drafting a "prospect" instead of a more proven college player over him
We don't bootleg enough which is beyond stupid since we run the ball and it gets the qb out of that thing we call a "pocket". We don't throw enough deep balls which is stupid since we do have a big fast receiver in hill and the league also calls many many many Pass interference calls that have hurt us all season long.
His skills sure did look decent to me at the beginning of the season when we were playing aggressive on offense and the line was giving the QB the protection to throw deep.
Look at Demaryius Thomas -- was nothign special until Manning showed up. 54 catches his first two years..Manning arrives and 94 catches for 1400 yards. Not saying Hill will do the same, but I think with the right QB Hill has upside.
hill gets 1 more t.c. if he doesn't show any improvement he is gone. his stockholder is gone now and the only reason he is still here is there is no benefit to cutting him.cap relief is minor if any and he is exactly the kind of guy you bring in for try outs to see if you can find gold. it would be nice if he did develope buti think its a very long shot at this point
I love how people just hang onto the "he can't catch" bullshit when he only has 1 drop all season. He's working on becoming a complete WR, All the people who say he only gets open on deep routes haven't been watching the games / all-22, There are plenty of short / intermediate routes that Hill gets open on but never sees a target for one reason or another. He has to work on high pointing the ball and using his size to his advantage. Other then that I'm extremely happy with the way he's progressed, Where he stuggled mightily last year in getting in and out of his breaks, he's not beating guys underneath and even in some cases turning his CB around with his body motion and mechanics. I posted this in the other thread but will repeat here for those that don't believe me, I'm open to rebuttals here if anyone wants to do the research as well and tell me i'm wrong.
Different player but same school same slow development - same poor offensive systems for a WR to develop. Can he be that who knows but he has potential. His hands looks fine this season.
Are you really still defending him so much because he did the Jets chant when he was drafted? Maybe he can join the cheerleading squad or take over for fireman ed. Would that satisfy you? He sucks. He's getting outplayed by guys off the street and off practice squads. I know - you disagree with that fact.
To drop it you have to catch it first. The amount of balls that bounce off him is ridiculous. I actually think half of his problem is that hes scared of getting hit
Yea, You nailed it LTJF - That's the only reason. Not because the guy has the physical traits to turn into a dominant wide receiver if given the opportunity, and not because he's been in the league only 1.5 seasons with some of the worst QBs in the history of the NFL, and not because he shows heart and goes to the whistle every play. ^^ This has never happened, If so let me know when and I'll eat crow. If it hits your hands as a catchable ball it's considered a drop, and he only has 1 this year. ^^ again, he has 1 drop this year. 1 How bout one of you guys give me some specific examples of why he sucks so bad. Not "He can't catch" or "he runs like a baby deer", how bout On X play vs X coverage Hill did Y which means he REALLY SUCKS and can NEVER GET BETTER...Can ANY OF YOU DO THAT? To be totally honest, You all suck as fans. There's no reason to be so down on a player on our team who's still learning his position and try and competing week in and week out. It's not like Holmes where's he's sitting out and whining every time he gets hurt, He's not throwing the QB under the bus at any point and is still going out everyday to try and get better. Everyone is getting on his case for dropping balls and not playing physical as a big WR when he's not even getting the chance to try. Makes me think that some of you aren't really watching the games and just like to complain about shit cause you're miserable people. We all knew he was going to be a work in progress coming in because he played at a run first school. Be upset at the GM for drafting him higher then he should have been drafted if that's what you think but to be upset at the kid for not turning into Megatron in his first season and a half is just asinine. Give the kid a break. Jesus.
Didn't Rex bench him last game?. You seeing something the CS doesn't? I don't think he's a bust yet, but he really hasn't made an impact on a team with no impact players. If he is getting open like you say, he should be in someones face telling them.
We don't need to give specific examples. It's obvious by the fact that he's not producing when other low level receivers are. If he was worth half a shit he'd be getting a lot of targets with all the losers we have at WR. I know you want to believe some conspiracy that he's just not being targeted for one reason or another but that's just plain silly. The Jets offense is struggling terribly - if anyone thought Hill could give the offense something he'd be targeted. The likely problem is that he just isn't an NFL WR. Give up the dream of a dominant WR. We'll be lucky if he turns into a serviceable WR.
Come on, Name one WR on our team that's "producing". We haven't scored a TD in 2 games. Stephen Hill didn't get a single target for 3 straight games, That doesn't happen on an NFL team for no reason. Not a SINGLE TARGET. 64 pass attempts and not one of them went to our starting WR with the most snaps in those 3 games? ( http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-jets/tag/_/name/playing-time-breakdown ) There's no way in hell that's ONLY the WR's fault. I don't care what you say.
Every shitty receiver that sees the field for the Jets out produces Hill. Are you purposely ignoring that?
So because Nelson comes in as a possession type receivers and getting the panic throws from Geno and then getting tackled immediately when Hill isn't even getting the chance, You're calling that "out producing?" Nelson has 20 catches with a 12.4/catch and ~2 YAC average. Greg Salas has 7 catches in 6 games, 7 catches in 119 plays. We don't have a SINGLE WR that's "producing". Salas has come in and played decent but again, as a slot / possession receiver inside the numbers. If you can't agree with that then I don't think it's worth arguing with you. If you're not going to listen to anything I say or provide any counter points other then your very narrow sighted opinion, then this really isn't worth it to be wasting my time. I gave plenty of examples of Hill getting open and not being given a shot to make a play, All you do is speak in generalities and tell me how much he sucks and will never be an NFL WR.
