I want a WR or OT in round 1.

I root for the team before Geno but I just don't know if Idzik will just throw away a 2nd round pick after just 1 year unless it was a can't miss QB stud ala Luck or Newton and I don't think any of the guys you listed are that(Not many are).

I just want to spend a whole draft on actually getting talent at other spots over giving up the farm for a QB or spending a top 15, maybe top 10 pick on a QB that isn't Bridgewater. We have so many needs at other spots. I would be contempt with a veteran QB like a McCown or Jason Campbell/Brian Hoyer type to compete with Geno year 2.

Too lazy to change the avatar and my Irish haven't given me a reason too. Nor have the Jets. Or Knicks or Yankees. ugh.

It's ONE pick--you aren't getting 3 WRs and 2 TEs and a RT with our first pick. That pick HAS to be a QB.

LOL, so you basically want to hand the job to Geno next year and watch the same thing over and miss out on a GREAT QB in this next draft.

I'm really hoping McCarron falls out of the 1st and 2nd rounds so we could potentially nab him up in the 3rd, I really wanna see McCarron in green n white.

Looks like Mariota is returning to Oregon for his junior year.

Can somebody give me some quick info on McCarron in terms of how he translates to the next level?

I admittedly never paid a ton of attention to him because it never really crossed my mind that he would be considered a top qb prospect.

I always was under the impression that he was more a product of Sabans great recruiting around him.

Chad Pennington with a better arm and more athletic.

    Matt Ryan 2.0.

Smart, cautious QB with average NFL arm and poor deep ball accuracy. I see a hell of a lot more of Christian Ponder than Matt Ryan in him. Someone will over draft him based on his size and winning pedigree, but I just don't buy into him.

Christian Ponder was the comparison I was going to make for McCarron also at this point. That's not a bad thing but it certainly isn't what you want to be betting the rent money on.

McCarron is one of those guys where if he gets picked in the mid to late rounds and sits on an NFL roster for a year or two as a backup might just find a great fit and catch a lucky break and become a very good QB down the road.

If he gets picked in the 1st or 2nd he's probably going to be over-exposed early and have some serious growth pains.

Can you imagine what the draft is going to look like if none of the Junior and Sophomore QB's come out?

That's when the 2015 draft starts to look golden.

It never is the kind of QB class it looks like it will be in October.

Here are a few rules I'd follow in approaching the 2014 draft:

    1. If the guy wasn't seen as a 1st round pick heading into 2013 he's most likely not a 1st round pick. That includes Derek Carr.

    2. If the guy has questions going into the Combine then the Combine should be for seeing if he stays where he was ranked going into it. Don't move guys up because they had a good agent and aced the interviews. Don't move them up because they looked really good in the workouts. Feel free to move them down if anything about them strikes you wrong.

In the end you may be wrong to move them down but you'll be a lot happier than if you were wrong and moved them up.

    3. Don't let injury status prevent you from taking a QB. Injuries are random events in most cases and most QB's should sit year one anyway. Take advantage of the fact that an injured player is likely to slip in the draft and get good value off of that.

There are positions where injuries are a big deal, like RB and TE, and chronic medical conditions are bad news but the one-off injuries to QB's shouldn't have as much effect on the draft as they do.

I'm hoping Mettenberger drops a few rounds to the JETS...... hopefully with BPA coinciding with WR / OL rds 1&2.

The kid just looks like an NFL player to me.... he's got the arm this team hasn't seen in a long time (aside from a 1/2 season of a Favre rental)

    :shit: :jets:

Mettenberger scares me because he wasn't known before this year. That kid has one hell of an arm though ... reminds me of Joe Flacco a little bit

That's why it works perfect if he now drops a few rounds...... the investment is mostly upside and limited risk

but he most mostly "unknown" simply because he was behind Aaaron Murray @ GA until he transfered to LSU. From what I've seen of this kid, I like. I think the Joe Flacco comparison is a good one, but he's played against much better competition.

Mettenberger doesn't scare me because it's obvious he has always had the raw talent, but this year when you give him a coach like Cam Cameron, it revealed the talent he had.

Give that guy to MM and you may see exponential improvement.
