I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict Stephen will have one more catch than Geno during the game. I would have been wrong last week but this week, I'm pretty sure Hill will catch one pass... One lousy pass.. Just one f'n pass..
Geno probably 1. Figured he's drop it, or 2. Was asking himself, "Who the hell is that guy wearing #84? Is he on our team?"
I can't believe how poorly this draft pick has panned out so far. The fact that he isn't catching any receptions with our skeleton receiver crew is alarming. How much is Sanjay Lal to blame for this?
Id say its definitely more on the scouting department. He should not have been a 2nd round draft pick, especially with Alshon Jeffery and Rueben Randle on the board.
clearly he hasn't panned out but he was a highly rated draft prospect with a lot of people having him down as a late first round pick
Don't know if anyone caught this, but the announcers said Hill has been nursing a knee and foot injury. Those injuries, combined with his hit to the head earlier in the season, explain a lot. He may still be a bust, but I'd like to give him another season. I still have hope.
Think of it this way. At least he's not Blackmon. Jags wasted an early first on him and he's not even playing for the rest of the year. Hill needs help to be successful. He can't do it himself. Surround him with an accurate QB and a couple good playmaking WRs, and you'll see him start to stretch the field, as was hoped when he was brought in. He also gets another year to prove himself.
If the Jets go heavy on WR in this draft and free agency Hill will be a cut in camp next season. You can't keep a project on the roster over people who can actually come in and play the game for you.
I'm leaning a lot towards this question myself. We still clean slate with the scouting department (if it hasnt been done so already). No excuse for grading a guy like Stephen Hill with about 20 NCAA catches ahead of proven Jeffrey's at South Carolina & Randle at LSU going up against the best in the SEC (neither non-passing offense and/or bad quarterback is an excuse).
Accurate QBs arent going to do him much good when he cant get any separation and he sure as heck doesn't know how to go after the ball or box anyone out ala Anquan Boldin....
He was a 4th round prospect until he ran a 4.3. That says it all. One look at the tape and you can tell that he simply isnt athletic. He is a track star, but he has no fluidity to him. I dont like Lal, but he cant teach Hill how to be an coordinated.
Guys like Stephen Hill are what's wrong with the NFL. A guy who is big and fast gets drafted and paid a butt load of money but he's not even any good. Guy can't get open and can't catch the ball. How do guys like this get drafted and in the second round? It's horrible.
Out of the main professional sports, football is IMO the only sport this usually occurs. someone comes in off a good college year or 2 putting up decent stats either in a gimmick system or against inferior opponents... the player can run and jump - and maybe even catch a ball or 2.... many of these players barely graduate and if they do - they are either escorted thru the grading policy or have a degree in some slapstick field of study.... and what happens - the NFL draft comes calling with their genius pool of NFL owners, GM's, and scouts - armed with computer programs and millions of dollars - trying to convince the PSL paying fans they know exactly what they are doing. i guess basketball can produce a few lemons from time to time. but i rarely see it in hockey and baseball - usually those guys are weeded out pretty early on.
