MM has been around for a long time. I'm sure he's a good solid OC and I'm sure the Jets took him for just that reason. Is he brilliant? Is he on the cutting edge of where the league is going? Do the Jets have a HC or a GM that can even have that discussion with an OC? Philadelphia certainly hasn't missed MM and Andy Reid certainly hasn't missed him. The game evolves. Comparing MM to Bill Walsh is like comparing Pat Robertson to Jesus.
After watching Seattle last night I envied their receivers. Those no name guys were catching anything that was being thrown on their way. There is a big gap in talent. MM is not the problem. It is the talent that is missing.
All good points. I think Marty would have scaled back the passes no matter what though. It's what coaches do with a rookie QB. Look at Glennon's passes as an example. Throwing it all over the place on the way to 0-4 in his first 4 starts and then scaled way back since then for 3-2. It's called the rookie bubble. Geno didn't have one at the start of the year because Holmes and Kerley were out and the Jets were throwing the ball a lot. Then Kerley came back and things got good for a few games, then everybody went out again and things sucked. The Jets personnel has dictated what they could do all year long. We just got a few games at the start where nobody had film on Geno and Marty was airing it out and things were ok for a bit.
Brian was a good OC, we made a mistake firing him. Sparano was a disaster marty has done a good job but he has no talent to work with and a QB who clearly was not ready to play this year. I give Marty a pass.
i think brad nailed it, lack of talent effects productivity which effects the o.c's faith which effects playcalling which effects defenses gameplans which leads to the anemic product we see. the good news is idzic is aware which is why he used 6 of the last 8 draft picks on the offensive side of the ball last spring. expect to see a heavy flow of offensive players rolling through floram park this upcoming spring
GTFO here with that BS. We had talented QBs in Favre and Pennington and they had statistically had their worst seasons. Schotty could never get the offense in rhythm.
In 08 before Favre got hurt we were rolling. In 06 with Pennington unable to throw outside the hash marks we had a reasonably good O with very limited talent. The job that was done in 06 with the O we had was outstanding. Shottenheimer was very restricted with Sanchez and did a good job formulating game plans that got us deep into the playoffs. Now I don't think Shottenheimer was a great OC but neither is MM. Both of them lack real talent to work with.
He stat-padded on a 7-9 Cardinals team. Schottenheimer did a shitty job of developing Sanchez as well. The color-wrist band? Really? Marty has engineered how many top 10 offenses? I'll tell you something about Chad, Chad was one of my favorite QBs, but what Schottenheimer did to him was a fucking crime. Schotty KNEW he could not complete those 10 yard out-routes and he kept dialing them up anyway. Schottenheimer never adjusted.
Whatever else you believe about the offense this year this statement is true. The one game Kerley missed early was against the Pats.
we got Favre w/ a month to go until the season, playing in a new system for the first time since 1992 PLUS he didn't want to be here. Chad was coming off his SECOND shoulder surgery in 2 years Mark was a rookie and was developing quite nicely, notice how his career went in the toilet after Brian left?
It was incredible that he got that O productive enough to make the playoffs. What the coaching staff did in 06 on both sides of the ball was remarkable. Shottenheimer got Chad another playoff run when it was clear he didn't have an NFL caliber arm at that point. Bring up Miami which was 3 years later and then take a look at the running game Miami had. Take a look at the home playoff game Chad had for Miami when the running game was stopped. Sanchez sucked and when Shotty was fired how did that work out for Sanchez.
Chad was the reason they went from 1 win to 11 wins despite what happened in the playoffs against a better team. He deserved league MVP that year.
Chad was a master of misdirection. One of the greatest ball fakers to ever play the game. He would turn his entire back to a defense for a solid 1-1000 count.
Dragline: Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'. Luke: Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
genos footwork is limiting martys ability to call his whole playbook. he is a disaster coming from under center and theres only so much you can do from the pistol and shotgun formations to confuse a defense. add in that geno is throwing like shit and the run game becomes easy to stop because well, nobody thinks geno can beat them. our wide receivers are not getting good separation, but they are getting open. geno is missing throws left and right and making bad decisions all over the field. its getting frustrating because im struggling to see what he has improved upon so far this season. i dont really care how much you guys still hate sanchez, he was never this bad. we cant even call a full playbook out there.
agree on all of this one of my all time favorite movies and one of my all time favorite jets he knew how to play the game. and he was a camera mans worst nightmare. how many times a game was the camera man following curtis while chad was still holding the ball?
