So I did a little counting...in the Baltimore game and as best I could yesterday. (I can't get access to the NFL Rewind until tonight's game is done) The NY Jets offensive line was allowing an average of 4 - 4.5 seconds on MOST plays. Now take a look at some stats I found on PFF Signature stats from 2012: A line can only block so long...2.7 seconds if you take the number 10 guy on that list. Our line is giving our QB's, ON AVERAGE, almost 2 full seconds longer to toss the rock than the 10th best QB in the league needs!! (last year's numbers of course...but should be a decent average indicator) I'll have a better sense as to where the REAL issue(s) lay after Simms gets a week or two to practice with the 1's and how that translates to the game. We already know we have a sub-par receiving corps...but is it REALLY as bad as it's "all on the WR's" or a combination of the two or does Geno have a greater role to play? The o-line isn't perfect but it certainly isn't nearly as bad as some have made it out to be this season.
We'll see if they bring this back with Simms under center. Geno was tossing picks and almost picks to LB'ers when were last trying screen passes.
Thank you, this is one piece of the puzzle that I have been wondering about. The others of course are WR separation/route running, QB progressions, QB accuracy and OC playcalling. Another big thing for me is the 'throw the guy open' or aiming above the DB's helmet when in press man to man coverage./ I see other QBs throw the ball at guys that look well covered all the time and they seem to come up with the ball, especially on the seam routes and curl routes. Is our lack of those plays 100% on the QB, or are the WRs to blame for those as well? Obviously to run those types of plays your QB has to have a rapport with his WRs, but still.
This again? Can't you just manage the possibility that our WR's AND our QB's suck? I mean, really, look at who is on the field for us and where they were chosen, what their health status is, whether they have ever been a reliable receiver for any period of time, and then reach the conclusion that anybody who looks at it rationally reaches: the Jets have no talent on offense. The only guys who are plus guys in the receivers are Holmes (hurt for most of the last two years) and Kerley (hurt a lot this year.) That just is what it is.
Agreed on a number of what you mentioned. That bolded item is all about Stephen Hill. A guy like that with his size and speed SHOULD be a prime candidate/target for that very type of pass. Really, so should Nelson considering his size but Hill definitely! Unfortunately, I do not have the time to gather such answers. One thing I can already "blow out of the water" is my earlier statement about "we'll see once Simms has a couple weeks of practice with the 1's". It has come out that Geno has been named the starter and that officially dashes any hope of that. Simms will NOT get one single snap with the 1's in practice now. He's so bad that he HAS to get all the reps...no question. It will yet again be a shit fest in the Oakland game with Geno shitting the bed and Simms being called on, again, (maybe) with no practice to attempt to mop up the mess. Maybe Ryan really IS trying to be fired. He most certainly won't be out of a job for long as there are some REALLY bad coaches in the league right now and he would be in line for a spot considering what he's had here and how much he's done with his chicken shit turned to chicken salad.
Sorry my man...I'm just putting cold hard numbers to eliminate the nut balls who can't get past it's "the offensive line's" fault crowd. This was the only way I could remove those loons from the discussion equation and get them to focus on exactly what you are saying....QB/WR's. Hell, our RB's are serviceable and would have gobs of room to run if there was some threat of a passing game. My bad and I will not bring up the O-line again.
The offensive line has something to do with it but until you find WR's who can get open on quick routes and QB's who can hit them reliably there's no way to help the line out when the other team is bringing 5 and 6 men on each passing down. Hell, teams are run-blitzing a tremendous amount and THEN carrying through to the QB when a pass is on tap instead. When a line faces pressure on every play and there are no outlets that are working things are going to break down and that's what's happening now. The Jets can't even go max protect and send only 2 guys in a pattern because they don't have one guy who can reliably get open in a spread so how is having two guys in a pattern with 4 guys in the secondary going to work?
Seriously I wouldn't mind a few pick plays - even if it draws PI call once in a while. That will teach them a lesson not to 1. stack 9 in the box and 2. jam all the fucking time. If Peyton and Brady can find their targets in less than 3 seconds with pick plays, there is no reason why Geno or Matt can't do the same in the same time span.
I can think of a lot of reasons that Geno and Matt cannot find a receiver on a pick play in less than 3 seconds and two of them are that Geno is not that decisive and Simms is not that accurate. Then you have the whole "Peyton and Brady get away with a lot of stuff that Geno and Matt are going to get crucified by the officials for even if they pull it off" factor.
Turd Ferguson doesn't block worth a dime. Mangold just stands around. It speaks volumes of the lack of focus and discipline on the team.
Klecko was saying on the JETS postgame show that Geno is making 7 step drops and the line isn't made to block for that long of a period. This may be true but the fact still remains that this offensive line needs to be revamped in a big way.
I'm surprised you didn't get the point. It was not on Geno OR Matt. 1. It's not even like they didn't do these things before. Kerley once converted 3rd and 18 against Bucs THIS season. 2. The point here is to give the defense a very good reason to back the fuck off. Or Geno will be throwing from the well all game long like he did in Baltimore.
Do you have a link for this because the a lot of this just doesn't seem accurate. There's no way D'Bricks pass blocking has been any kind of "solid." I'd be surprised if Mangold was above average also. Winters has certainly been all-around awful.
you can't run rubs when the wr's are getting jammed at the line and can't beat it. marty needs to draw up some serious misdirection if he is going to get an opposing d back on their heels. the books been written about this o, send the house, there is no one to make you pay if you don't get home. i am not sure how that gets fixed for the next 4 games
Mangold and Brick seems to be on the downside of their careers Winters is rookie who is playing out of his natural position Colon is just not that good Rookie QB who doubts himself and holds on to the ball too long sometimes Rookie QB also has trouble making pre snap reads of where blitzes are coming from Wide Receivers who can't get open for the rookie QB Add all these things up and your O Line will look pretty shitty
It doesn't. All the scheming in the world can't make Greg Salas a capable Wide Receiver or make Stephen Hill exist.
There is this standard procedure called STACK AND RUB. Pats started the trend, of course, but now nearly all the prolific passing offenses use some form of it, starting with that egghead in Denver. Who says you can't take advantage of overly aggressive DBs? Jets get burned for that all the fucking time.
