Hi guys. I will head to Vegas for the first time with my cousins and need some advice. Before I ask my questions let me say we are 3 guys 34, 35 and 35 years old respectively. I am married and my cousins aren't yet. We are all Turkish. I am living in USA since 2004 and they are coming from Turkey and they speak little English. We are staying at Palazzo which is on the strip. We will fly on December 27 and come back December 31st to attend a party here in New York. My questions 1) Places to see besides casinos. Casinos won't be out main attraction. We are looking to spend some time doing other stuff. A few hours drive is not a problem because we will have a rental car. 2) A few good but cheap places to hang out at night times. Looking to get drunk without spending a ton of money. 3) I never paid for sex neither my cousins. Not looking for prostitutes. How to distinguish regular girls from the prostitutes? Do I sound too dumb by asking this? By the way girls are not for me it is for my cousins. They are good looking fellas and I might need to watch them and make sure they aren't getting themselves into trouble. 4) Tips on sports betting. I don't like slots etc and not good at table games. I am planning on doing sports betting only. This will be my first sports betting in USA. I have done plenty in Europe but not familiar with Vegas betting. Don't worry about the questions. Write anything you think might help us. You guys are the best, J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS!
This is so random because I was literally looking up Las Vegas things last night (my wife and I are thinking of booking for my 30th bday coming up as we've never been) and thought "I should start a thread asking for advice." The only non-casino things I know of are Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam tours, there are apparently also some good shooting ranges where you can fire pretty much any gun you want. Other than tours there are lots of shows (like Cirque and famous comedians and singers), not to mention tons of clubs including some high end strip clubs apparently. As for the girls I think you should be safe if you meet a group of them at a club or bar or whatever. If it's a pretty girl by herself that should be your first red flag. If they are playing the penny slots at 2am that's another one. Here's my question for anyone who can help: Has anyone stayed at Treasure Island and if so is it any good? We are thinking of booking and can get a pretty good deal at Treasure Island, from what we can tell it has relatively good reviews online and it's right on the strip (which is really important to us) but I don't know anyone who has stayed there. Honestly we aren't really going to be spending a lot of time in the room or even in that hotel necessarily, we're more than willing to go to other hotels and casinos and whatnot but if somebody has a really positive or really negative review of it that might sway our opinion. For the record the MGM Grand is on for like another $30 a night so if someone feels it's worth the money we would consider doing that hotel instead.
My question to the OP is why Vegas? There are certainly better destinations in the US if casinos, hookers and expensive drinks are NOT what youre looking fo
I got some good advice for both of you. I've been to Vegas single and married. 1. LOTS to do in Vegas itself, for sure check out the water show at the Bellagio, it's free. If you want to have a fun time and drink for DIRT cheap, head over to the imperial palace and watch the dealertainers. It's card games and the dealers are dressed up as rock starts, Elvis, Alice Cooper and it houses the best collection of low lives in Vegas but it's fun as hell. Another cool spot is the Ice bar, the roof top party at the Cosmopolitan is where you want to be if you are looking for women the place is awesome. You have to check out the bar at the top of the Stratosphere, the view is amazing. Northernjet, book a reservation for the restaurant in the Stratosphere, its' the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. I would recommend the prefix menu, its pricy but well worth it. The restaurant rotates around (super slow) so you can't beat the view. They also have a couple of rides on top of the stratosphere, one spins around, one dangles you off the building and one you can actually slide down the side of it! Def check out the Eifel tower, that’s awesome. They got a PBR in Vegas where you can ride a mechanical bull, women always are in that bar. Not sure if you guys know this you can walk around ANYWHERE in Vegas and drink you can even get into a cab drinking. For the single Turk's check out the topless bar on the roof of one of the casinos, forgot which one that was. Also remember, there is old Vegas and New Vegas, lots of sketchy people in the old part. We took a helicopter ride around Vegas that was cool also. As far as lodging. Treasure Island is cool, but remember its sketchy in that area. Just my two cents, if I was single and with a group of guys, I for sure would stay in the old strip its SUPER cheap, I think you can get rooms for 30 a night @ the imperial Palace. If I was with my wife, I would stay somewhere on the new strip, much nicer and cleaner. It's for sure more expensive, but worth it. My top 5 hotels/casinos (in order) Aria Cosmopolitan Paris Bellagio MGM
Northerjet, spend the extra money stay at one of the top 5 i posted. Check tripadvisor look at the reviews. I was just at the Aria, it's my fav hotel/casino
Hi northernjet. Enjoy your birthday in Vegas. Your red flag comment is noted. Hi Jonny Good question. Looks like Las Vegas name is pretty big in Europe and my cousins wanted to go there. Besides, we have been to Chicago, Orlando, Miami, Boston, Washington DC, Houston, Atlanta together already. My preference was San Fransisco but I was overruled 2 to 1. Also they are planning on spending some money in the casinos. Its just me that will do only sports betting. Thanks eyedea. Appreciate the suggestions. I didn't know you could drink in public. Man I am starting to love this Vegas thingy.
Well I would like to think after living in Vegas for about 15 years I'm kind of an expert on the city Palazzo is fine, really nice, really expensive but in a good location and connected to the Venetian. It's easy to get to most of the other big locations on the BLVD. Good luck finding cheap places to drink, honestly if you are ok with dive bars check out Dino's by the Stratosphere. It's an old mob hang out but has lost most of it's luster. The drinks are cheap and you're likely to meet more locals than tourists. Of course you could drop 500 bucks going to a nightclub. Spots betting, no real advice...just good luck. Go to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, take the drive. It's well worth it especially if you have never seen it. I would suggest North Rim but due to the weather as you go through Utah but less crowds If you are not looking to pay for women avoid the Octagon Bar at the Venetian, also avoid massage parlors. You'll certainly be able to find plenty of women you can pay for. There are plenty of strips clubs though....and I can all but guaruntee you'll be paying but won't be getting any.
Hey Barry. Please make yourself available. I will be bringing your Galatasaray jersey with me. We will definitely do Grand Canyon. And probably hit either Rhino or Sapphire as strip clubs. How is the drive to LA by the way? Some people are saying traffic is a mess.
Okay great thanks for the advice, I have a buddy who stayed at the Aria for business and liked it so I will see what I can do. Thanks for the restaurant tip too, we aren't foodies by any means but don't really want to be eating KFC or some crap the entire time we are there.
Rent a jeep and head to Red Rock Canyon, there is a paved loop that takes you in but about a 1/3 or the way through you will hit the off road trail. Take that right turn and just keep going. Even if you lose the trail you will hit a road sooner or later. A good day trip.
It's more of the whole experience you know? the Stradospher's view is one of a kind, it's amazing to sit there and check out the view. If its the one meal you splerge on, its def worth it.
I drove from San Fran to LA, then LA to Anaheim, Anaheim to Vegas. LA Traffic is horrible. Driving to Vegas everyone is doing 100.
The Imperial Palace was cheap and loaded with funny/sketchy people. It's like the walmart of Casinos lol. Barry, where are the station casinos? Those are owned by the same people who own the UFC.
I'll be less than helpful since I've only been to Vegas once, did zero of the planning and was mostly intoxicated the entire time. The Palazzo was very nice. I didn't think it was overly expensive, but I'm sure you can find cheaper. It is right across the street from Treasure Island. It seemed to be to be on the end of the strip, I'm not sure if that is good or bad. The Sports Book is attached to Palazzo too, which was tons of fun since we went during March Madness. There is a restaurant, Cut, attached which is the best steak house I've been to, but it is incredibly expensive (I think the cheapest steak was $50+). We had a pretty good time there. There was some irish bar/casino we went to that had Beer Pong tables. We had tons of fun there. I can't remember the name and couldn't find it on a quick search. It wasn't too bad of a walk from Palazzo. I may be heading out there next summer with the wife, so I'll be using this thread for tips. Mostly looking for fun shows/restaurants to take her while there.
Thanks phubbadaman Palazzo was not my choice. I did Priceline name your price thingy and got the suite for 90 bucks a night between December 27 and December 31. At the time, expedia prices for hotels was higher than that. By the way I didn't even know the name of Palazzo up until I named my own price. It was a surprise for me as it wasn't somehow showing in expedia choices. Edit: Wow. I made the reservation in June. I checked Palazzo now and the lowest room is 356 bucks a night on average between Dec 27 and Dec 31.
I'll be around...no where to go that weekend. Can't go wrong with the Rhino or Saphire. Treasure's, OG, Cheetah's and Hustler Club are all good as well. You can even find some dive strip clubs in this town like Play it Again Sam or Pussycat's. The drive would be horrific that weekend as your return trip would put you in the middle of all the people coming to Vegas for New Year's Eve. Not a trip you want to be making. It normally takes me about 3 1/2 hours to get to LA but that on that weekend you'd be looking at about 7 or 8. Fuck that... Grand Canyon won't disapoint and neither would Valley of Fire or Red Rock Canyon. IP is no more, it's undergone a complete renovation and now called The Quad. I'm sure it's still a dump but probably a much pricier dump. They also put up the World's Largest "Observation Wheel" behind it, this ferris wheel towers over most of the hotels on the strip but I don't know when it opens. Stations are all off the strip, one is about 10 minutes from me called Red Rock Station, I dig it. A cool place to hang out and bet. They are hit and miss, some of them are dumps yet others like Sunset, Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock are really really nice. Yup, they are owned and run by the Fertita Family, the same as the UFC people. Funny thing is only in Vegas would you get a school named after one of them... I kid you not.
Hey, just in time to take in the UNLV-Cal. St. Fullerton game on the 28th @ 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center!! and the sex btw is free
The way my Runnin Rebels are playing today you might want to skip that game. We look like the Walking Rebels.
Las Vegas Here I come. Looking forward to make some money betting on winning NFL teams(some advice would be appreciated for week 17 of NFL). Also looking forward to get drunk, drink in the streets and meet Barry the Baptist.
