I decided to make a new thread to separate all the Geno vitriol and Matt Simms love etc...and take a solid unbiased look...at least from my perspective.

Let me start out with...at no point in time did I say Matt Simms was the savior...it pisses me off when I see people post that's we supposed Matt Simms "proponents" were claiming. Also, at no point in time did I say Geno's CAREER was done. Need to be clear before my next paragraphs. What I said was Geno is done right now. I also said, at the beginning of the year, that he didn't look ready to me and Matt Simms looked MORE ready...not a savior. MORE ready than another rookie in Geno Smith. And what I saw in this game doesn't CHANGE my mind!

    Let's get into it.........

Comparing the two halves I saw far more production out of Matt Simms than I did Geno Smith. That includes no previous game experience other than what we've seen in a couple games to include pre-season. That includes absolutely ZERO snaps in practice. I can't highlight that one enough...some poster in another thread actually couldn't believe Simms didn't get any snaps in practice. LOL!!!!! Matt Simms hasn't gotten a 1st team snap in practice...EVER. For those that didn't know that then I'm kind of shocked. That one REALLY blew me away.

Simms made some rookie mistakes...after all...this IS his first year seeing the field so he is kind of a rookie...yet again, I saw plenty of GOOD things. Now, do I see the 2014 starter on our team. NO. Not even close...but, I see more out of Simms than I do Geno...right now.

Our defense basically spent the ENTIRE first half on the field. Did anyone really expect them to hold out the whole game. You could tell they were gassed mid-3rd Quarter. Anyone could see that. In fact, and I could be wrong, but I saw the defenses "will" break in the 2nd half.

The next 4 games makes or breaks Ryan. I will tell you all this...if Rex Ryan starts Geno Smith next week he WILL lose that locker room. The defense is done. I watched it in the 2nd half...they are done done done doneee.... Geno Smith needs to sit the rest of the way unless Simms gets hurt. Time for debates!!! :)

I think David Garrard needs to play unless his body can't take it than you put Simms in instead. Whatever happens this off-season will be very interesting, will Geno ever regain his confidence and win a starting job next year.

On another note that I don't believe gets talked about enough, Geno has small hands, this doesn't only lead to fumbles but one more important variable, grip on the football. If you can not grip the football tightly without palming the ball your going to sail a lot of throws. Look at the way the ball just fell out of his hand last week on a throw to the RB, this is extremely concerning. The ball is bigger in the NFL than in College ball, any person who ever played a little QB will tell you how important it is to have a powerful grip on the football.

Not a Geno apologist here but..

Like looked terrible for both players, but the line did give Simms a couple if clean pockets. Run game looked way better with Simms. Simms benefited from the screen passes.

Neither looked good, and our receivers suck. Starter should be chosen on Friday, after a week if seeing both QBs.

Sorry but Matt Simms is awful and not the answer.
Start him and the results will be worse than what you saw with McElroy.

If you think there is any way Geno should start next week you are out of your mind.

Garrard? Why? The jets are out of the playoffs and Garrard won't be on the roster next year. The jets know what they have in Geno so Simms needs to start the rest of the season.

You kidding me? His hands are fine. We weren't concerned with his hands size when he was slinging the back down the field the first 5 weeks.

What did you see from Simms to say that he should start?

See...now I don't see him as the answer. I do see him as superior to Geno Smith...so take that for whatever it is worth. I'd rather see some semi-competent QB play or we'll lose the whole team.

His hands got measured at about 9 inches, that is pretty small and even early he's never been that accurate with his deep balls, your kidding yourself if you think otherwise. How many throws this year has he sailed 5 yards out of bounds? He also missed a WIDE OPEN Stephen Hill deep early in the season by about 8 yards.

Semi-competent QB play with decisive decision making. They weren't all great decisions but they were decisive. Matt Simms had 50% completion percentage with almost 4 times the passing yards...that is with ZERO practice reps with the 1st team. How about that...is THAT good enough for him to start over Geno?

I think I could find at least a few comments of yours that go beyond just, "Let's see what he can do", but yeah, I'm not swimming through the cesspool that is your posts. I can live with the possibility that I confused you with some other braying jackass.

    Sick burn.

    Simms got us points.

    Simms moved the chains.

Simms only turnover was on 4th and 18, may as well have been a punt.

When Simms was under center the entire offense seemed to play better.

Give the kid the snaps in practice, let him start the game without playing from behind, give him a defense that is not winded from playing the entire first half on the field as see what he can do.

With the exception of the Panthers, there are no big time playoff caliber teams on our schedule. I am not saying that we can run the table with Simms but he gives us a chance to compete in each and every one of those games that we do not have with Geno Smith.

Whatever spark we saw from Smith early in the season has long since been extinguished. Teams have seen the tape on him and know how to shut him down.

Back peddle...your kidding me right? A guy who has taken every 1st team snap prepping for games compared to a guy who was tossed into a game and asked to comeback?

Was Simms lights out? No...was he better than Geno? Im not sure..the coaching staff only let Geno throw the ball 20 times the last 3 weeks..or it seems.

They let Simms pass the ball 18 times...but it was a a blowout right?

If anyone thinks that if Rex had the decision to pull Geno 2 or 3 games ago he would have done it...Rex didnt take this guy in the second round of his first NFL draft ever.

Idziks drafted his first 3 players and two are busts...and one, in fairness, might be a great player so the jury is out.

There is no reason in the world Geno should have been the starter this week.

For those nutjobs that are saying things like "see...Simms threw a pick too" NOBODY CLAIMED SIMMS WAS GOING TO CANTON. What many of us knew a month ago was that Geno was not an NFL QB right now..and that we had a chance to go to playoffs.

So while some bask in the glory that Simms came in and didnt go 18-20 with 3 tds...just remember that you guys were defending a qb that had 3 of the worst NFL starts in the league this year...4 if you count this one.

Remember...before you start posting Geno is the man...you guys were defending Geno......Smith....all we were saying that anyone else could not be worse....ANYONE.

I don't disagree that he should start -- he doesn't look as bad because he has not been shell shocked by having to run this crappy offense with a god awful O line and no receivers. Sanchez got progressively worse, and so did Geno.

I'd start Simms next week. Give him a weeks worth of reps. Geno IMO is done for the year. He's shot and it benefits neither him or the team to keep him out there. Ride out the rest of the season with Simms lets see what we have in him.

Simms needs to get the first team reps and start next week. At least he can make some decisions and put the football where he wants. At least we can get fucking field goals with him. Here's our offense under Geno last three weeks: ZERO points.
