The issue is that McCaron plays behind a great O Line so it's impossible to tell how he will play under NFL pressure. He might crash and burn, its really hard to tell. If we could get him in the 3rd or 4th round I would consider it.
How old are you? Why are you attacking posters that god forbid have a different opinion than you? All Baker did was give a reasonable thought in that the defenses Carr and Fales faced both weren't top notch, and you're making it personal.
I'm 13, what's it to you? MakerBaker isn't giving a reasonable thought on anything--he's an avowed Geno fan and can't stand the thought of anyone ever supplanting his hero. 2 QBs that could easily supplant Geno threw for a combined 12 TDs and over 1100 yards. Let's make it about crappy defenses and how Rutgers did against them. Not about how well the QBs played. The main board is for agendas. The draft board is for honest discussion. _
As awful as that ending was for the Tide, I am almost convinced more than ever that AJ is a QB to build around. He is the smartest QB I've seen in years--he can read defenes, knows where he is going at all times, is incredibly accurate, has perfect mechanics, is an outstanding leader and his arm is a lot better than given credit for. He had at least 6 drops today including 2 TDs. He's a brilliant QB and I'm almost tempted to make the jump at a very high pick. Guy is going to be a great pro and a starter from day 1. He has near-Peyton Manning type intangibles. _
Stop putting words in my mouth and get a clue for once. I am not bashing the QB prospects but I loved what I saw out of both WRs. Were you not impressed with Huff and Cooks? I have been posting in this draft forum for a while, I ain't going anywhere. This is my favorite part of the site.
I am not trying to dismiss what they did but you have brought up Geno tearing it up against James Madison, a shitty Baylor defense etc. Why can't the other QBs get talked about like that too? You seem to be the one with the Anti-Geno Bias. I've seen your posts all over and you attack anybody who shows any kind of support or patience for Geno. It is getting tiresome really. I love how you refuse to deny or counter attack any of my points and instead try and get personal by mocking me for being a "Geno fan" and for "having an agenda". That's the ultimate sign of someone not having the ability to discuss something intellectually. I miss Mr. Electric man. Dude knew so much more about college sports and while he didn't shy away from controversy, he was at least clever and funny. Your a poor man's Mr. Electric
By the way, the throw McCarron made from the back of the endzone for a 99 yard TD was one of the most clutch plays I've seen in a while. _
I cant tell yet if AJ Mcarron will fall in like every other recent QB drafted from Alabama or if he will become something. He does have potential and is very poised
It's a thread about QBs thought to be first round picks. You're a Geno fan so you need to deflect in every thread, I get it. You should go start a thread titled "Players I was more impressed with other than the two QBs who combined for 12 TD passes and more than 1100 yards in a single game". Did you watch the game? The whole game? Every snap? What exactly, other than the defenses and what Rutgers may or may not have done against the same defenses were you NOT impressed with? The QBs were almost perfect in every phase, throwing long, throwing mid-range, reading defenses, running, everything. BTW, if Geno had thrown the way these guys did--down the field every throw instead of bubble screens and shovel passes to Austin and Bailey, I would have been just as impressed. _
I was against drafting any QB last year, it was an awful draft for QBs. I was not on board with drafting Geno because I saw him as an overhyped gimmick QB. I wanted to wait until THIS year to draft a QB because of the talent thought to be coming out. The second he was drafted I became a huge Geno fan and became more and more impressed with how he played early in the year. He has been awful for about a month and a half now. And I fear two things: 1. It's not the lack of talent around him or the offensive line. 2. We're going to miss out on a TRUE franchise QB because we're going to try to fix the stuff AROUND Geno rather than fixing the position itself. That's my deal. You want to fix the faulty foundation, you're a Geno fan. I get it. _
100%. Smart, accurate, perfect mechanics, quick release, nice arm, can throw with touch or can lay it in there, avoids the rush, reads defenes like a book, a true leader. A franchise QB. _
Didn't know the WRs who also shined could not be talked in here too. Didn't think making a thread on them in the draft forum would be necessary really. Geno had Austin and Bailey as his WRs, doesn't mean they don't deserve credit for the plays they made with Geno. Same with Mannion and Mariota. I will admit I could not watch the game as I don't get CBSSportsNetwork here(I watched the Oregon/Oregon St game) which is why I did not discuss what both QBs did as far as their tools go. Saw box score, and was not surprised with the outcome. I didn't want to get into exact specifics on each guy during this game for that very reason as I was unable to watch the game. However, I have seen both guys go to work though in their careers(I mentioned Fales in round 4 for NYJ in a previous post), but both defenses are pretty bad in general. Just look at the stats. They did nothing wrong in that game, much like with what Geno did. You take what is given and perform/excel vs a bad defense. I just don't understand how you use that as an attacking point against Geno Smith but don't for either of those 2 QBs. That doesn't seem fair.
We could get him in the 3rd round, but a team will reach for sure. He will have great interviews. He is very charismatic and smart individual
I want McCaron in here badly tbh. He has the body of Flacco, smarts of Alex Smith and a ton of potential. Build around him and it would work.
Stokes, good recaps. Awesome weekend for college football. First post you made: "I came away more impressed with Huff and Cooks than I did with the QB" Most recent post: "I didn't watch the game" Come on dude. Don't post shit like that if you didn't even watch it. If you had, you woulda been impressed. It was clearly more than just torching a bad defense. These guys were making excellent throws all day.
You didn't post my full quote. Let me do it: "I came away more impressed with Huff and Cooks than I did with the QBs.....I'd love to have either one in round 2 if we go OT/S/OLB/TE in round 1. Especially Huff." I never said that the QBs suck which is what I felt Stokes was getting at or that I was trying to defend Geno out of this. I am sorry I want Huff or Cooks in round 2 as a Jet over say a QB. I don't want a QB drafted until like Round 4 as we need to address WR/OLB/S/CB or TE with the first 4 picks taking we franchise Austin Howard but I know that's unpopular. I have made that stance known. I watched the Oregon/Oregon St game.....it was the SJSU vs Fresno St game I didn't/could not. Re-read then get back to me. And I never took anything away from Fales or Carr....I just mentioned both defenses suck so it isn't much of a surprise it became an absolute shoot out. I never questioned Stokes evaluation of both guys from the game or even discussed either QB as again I didn't watch the game lol. You guys are overblowing what I said.
I get that it wasn't a great QB draft. Many felt that way. Who would you have gone with as a QB for 2013 though? Sanchez? McElroy/Simms? FA? I liked the Geno pick and liked the player heading into the draft so I really loved the reports early that Friday that had the Jets thinking of getting him(DID NOT want a trade up for him though, we could not trade up with such a lack of depth thanks to Mr. T so in that regard I did not want Geno unless he fell to 39) I think the OLine let him do bad in these past 2 games since BUF and BAL are among the leaders in sacks so it isn't surprising(But still unacceptable) that our pass protection turned to shit in particular vs these two. I don't think the Saints game he was bad in.....he just game managed and only made the throws/completions when he absolutely had to with targets like Sudfeld, Salas and Nelson with Kerley leaving the game that hurt us. Why attack in the air when NO could not stop Ivory? He was good in the 2nd Pats game....he just had one really bad throw that resulted in a pick six to Ryan. Can't let one mistake overshadow the rest of his day. He made the throws, had an important TD run and despite our defense blowing that game to send it to OT, when the Jets got their 1st drive of OT...he and Ivory moved the ball and put us in a spot to try that controversial FG. I want to build a foundation and then get in our QB kinda like what happened the 2x we went to the AFC Title game. I still don't want to just give up on a rookie QB after just 1 year, I don't think you can judge someone fully based off what they do their rookie year and then decide or not to cut bait. Not all QBs who jump into the NFL can just light it up for a vast majority of games. Has nothing to do with me being a "Geno fan". I root for the guy like I do with all my players but I have patience for the guy to go through these growing pains. It sucks we haven't had a great QB in a while, I get fans frustration. But I don't think you can hold that against Geno Smith. He like plenty of rookies will have their highs, lows and very lows. There are always blue chip prospects in every draft at the QB spot. The 2013 Draft is a rarity in regards to this. Really there are blue chip prospects in plenty of positions every year. My point is, I just hate the mindset I have read on here that some would keep drafting a QB every draft until someone shows they "got it" right away. Just because you got it right away doesn't mean you can sustain it. RG3, Luck, Tannehill, Wilson, Kaepernick.....guys who have not been consistent after a successful year 1 into their starting NFL careers. Gametape comes out and defenses get to see what tendencies you have and it takes time to correct and fix that, especially when your surrounding cast isn't that good. Likewise, a point I have tried to put a point of emphasis on is QB is one of the very few positions in the draft that sees prospects slide because teams feel they have their "QB of the future". Taking so many QBs enter their names(I don't think every single QB listed will declare as they will try and go for a higher spot in the 2015 NFL Draft which is fine) or graduate.......there will be a surplus at the position as opposed to positions like TE or S that may have a limited gifted few.
