I think he will restructure to a more cap friendly deal. Holmes may be a jackass, but he's not stupid enough to not see the writing on the wall. Not many teams will take a gamble with him, especially after this season. I think he also sees the potential of this franchise now with Idzik in charge. This team will be a serious contender for years to come and I think he will want to be part of that. I sometimes hate his attitude, but to have him as a #2 next year would be kick ass!
The past few years he's become injury prone. The guy, while being very good in the clutch, has only had one 1000yd season. He has NEVER been a #1 receiver. Time for him to walk after the season. Far away. Idzik needs to replace him via draft or FA.
santonio holmes has NEVER led his team in receptions nor has he ever really been the go to guy. 06 through 09 he was behind hines ward in pittsburgh, hines ward did all the dirty work and tonio benefitted from it. so i figured he would come to the jets and THEN with the lack of weapons the jets have he would be the leading receiver. no such luck. dustin keller had more catches than him in 10 and 11. and then he hasnt really even played the past 2 years. looking back on it this guy has been a pretty useless piece of shit for the entirety of his jets career. on top of not being very good he has been injury and suspension prone, a complete fucking cancer in the media and the locker room and an all around douchebag.
I want to squeeze whatever we can out of Tone this season, and then bid him farewell. I'd much rather have a team first veteran in here to mentor some young WRs next year. Tone is not that guy.
Totally agree. Since it's Holmes contract year, I'm expecting him to light it up once he gets back. Afterwards, Holmes can go to some other team & milk them for a few years. As for the Jets: whether they keep Geno or draft another QB, they need a veteran WR a developing QB. Don't like the idea of developing a raw prospect into WR #1 and developing QB at the same time. Even if they draft a WR early, I'd still like to see them pursue an established veteran WR via FA.
PM me for a link to the article.... True Life: Santonio Holmes By LilMissNYJet @LilMissNYJet on Nov 15 2013, 1:23p 38 You think you know Santonio Holmes, but you have no idea. Some selfless acts of kindness just shouldn't go unnoticed. Here is one from the perspective of a self-proclaimed Tone Apologist. Every once in a while, I'll come across one of many articles written about the New York Jets that make me proud to be a fan. I had that moment on Wednesday when I came across an article on the New York Jets website about Darrin Walls & Troy Davis spending some time visiting patients at Goryeb Children's Hospital. Amidst all the negative media floating around about NFL players lately, it was a good moment to read about two of our players spending their time helping others. Yesterday I had another one of those moments. An apologist is defined as "one who speaks or writes in defense of someone or something that is being criticized or attacked by other people". Being that I call myself a "Tone Apologist", this article will make perfect sense. Peterson "Petey" Jean-Marie is one of the patients that Walls & Davis had the pleasure of meeting during their Children's Hospital visit on Tuesday. Petey, 22, has spent the past 3 months in the hospital battling Leukemia. Just when he thought his week couldn't get better, it did. Santonio Holmes came straight from practice on Thursday to visit Petey in the hospital. No press, no media, no ulterior motive. Just Tone being Tone: a selfless person who cares a great deal about others. They say the most selfless acts are the ones that don't need recognition. In fact, I would have never known about Tone's visit had it not been for fellow Jets fan Tom Rossi, a friend of Petey's. I spoke to Petey about Santonio's visit: "He was very concerned and caring. He gives that vibe that you can talk to him about anything. The guy has a big heart because he comes out of his way just to come see us in the hospital. I was very excited when he came and hung out with me in my room. He gave me a game ball and also signed it. I got him to wear a reindeer hat and he did it and we also joked around." My hope is that one day, I can retire my title as a "Tone Apologist" because he won't need anymore defending. The positive stories of who Tone really is and what really matter to him have easily outweighed any bad. Or should I say the bad that is all too often incorrectly portrayed. The best part about it is that many Santonio fans like myself feel a stronger need to defend his image than he does. Why? Because Santonio Holmes is one of the few people that knows exactly who he is and doesn't need really care if anyone else knows it. That's a quality I personally admire. "It was the greatest moment of my life. He put a smile on face. One person can make a huge different and he did. He made my day and week" Next time you want to take the lazy approach to fandom and call Holmes the ever-so-overused term "a locker room cancer" do me a favor and read Petey's words first.... and then reconsider.
That's cool. I mean, that kid has fuckin leukemia. He's probably going to die soon. If he made that kids day then that's greater than anything he can do on the field. i really mean that. The fact remains that he hasn't panned out to be the no.1 receiver we envisioned and he can't stay healthy. I wish him the best, I hope he can light it up the rest of the way here and become known for this good guy image too. We all do. Lets see where were at in 6 weeks.
Don't people, non athlete millionaires included, have an unwritten social responsibility to help make the lives of others less fortunate better? I appreciate Tone or his representitieves/teammates recognizing this with Petey. That said, random acts of kindness don't alter my feelings about Santonio the receiver as this artical is attempting to do. He has underperformed, and has been a malcontent. I'll spark one to him having a great stretch run and helping the Jets get into the tourney!
I'm truly beginning to wonder if this guy is intentionally tanking it this year. He can use the injury excuse as a reason he did not perform and having the challenges of a rookie QB. Reality is the more he plays this season the more he hurts his chances of another payday when the Jets cut his ass in April!
He isnt getting another payday. Not next year it least. Smartest thing he could probably do is sign a 1 year deal with somebody and prove himself to another team, then cash in. But he'll never get the contract he got with the after 2010. He's still very talented so with the right QB he'll produce.
Of the 7 highlight real moments created by the Jets over the last 4 years, one Jet is responsible for 5 of them. The one Jet you dumb asses want off the team. The best thing Idzik can do for the Jets in 2014 is restructure Santonio Holmes and get him back on the field.
yes yes, because what we are striving for in this whole thing is 7 highlights over 4 years. yes thats it
Living in the fucking past. This league is about what you have done for me lately. Holmes hasn't done jack shit since 2010. He hasn't justified his contract. Not even close. The mediocrity some of you accept is pathetic. Just like those that believe Geno and Mark are the answers at QB. We need to strive for more than average.
My buddy is an Eliabeth NJ cop and he was telling me he met Wilkerson & Tone giving out 200 turkeys to those less fortunate in NJ before Thanksgiving. He said Holmes was a great guy and that Richardson also showed up just to hang out and meet people and wasn't even supposed to be there. With all the haters always looking to pounce it's nice to spread some good words where it's warranted.
