LOLWhut? First of all, Kaep did NOT put up huge passing numbers, not anywhere near what Mariota is doing. Mariota's passing numbers--which is what counts--dwarf Kaep's passing numbers. He completed less than 60% of his passes in COLLEGE. And Mariota is doing it against superior talent--he's not in the WAC which sucks. I'm not a GM. If you think in retrospect that Kaep isnt worth a VERY high first round draft pick, then maybe you need to get caught up in measurables. If you were to redo that draft today knowing what we all know, that guy is going top 3. That's what you should be measuring when you look at Mariota. _
Lol I'm not going to argue with you, this shit happens every year where people fall in love with guys who put up big numbers in kindergarten systems and overdraft them. We will see what he does in the Pro's when he has to make quick decisions under real NFL pass rushes.
Exactly like Geno brother, doesn't mean he won't succeed they just need time to learn the complex systems, different terminologies, etc. The NFL is a whole different beast than the College level but I don't have to tell you that.
I'm taking Mariota every time. I saw both of them play a lot in college, Geno 3 times live. Mariota is a superior talent. _
And can you debunk if he did tried to trade up for him? Why is it that your word means everything and my word doesn't? Bias much? You know just as much as I do as far as these conversations go, however I actually put up something that shows what I was talking about, smoke or not. You haven't. I have no man crush, you have a serious problem drawing conclusions so soon. You have no patience by the looks of it and want everything to be win now this and win now that. That sounds great on paper but hate to break it to you but this team Idzik inherited was full of flaws that could not be fixed right one snap of the finger. All I have been saying is give it time but you don't seem to be down for doing that. Are people who have Richardson as their avatar fanbois now? Should I change my avatar to a Richardson one?
No one, and Ive been on record saying that I am a huge proponent of spending close to the entire draft and adding talent to the offense. I said the same thing last year. Last year, I also criticized Sanchez for being in a very similar situation to Geno, and its only fair I do the same. Its a hard situation to truly judge Geno at this point because the offense around him is crumbling. He certainly is not the sole reason why we have lost back to back games. The OL has let up pressure on close to 50% of plays. The WR's suck, to say the least, and our TE's are just as bad as the WR's. BUT, I certainly can not look past all of the bad that he has done this year, and especially recently. I think Bridgewater is a much better pro-prospect than Cam, but thats me. I also think that some of the QBs that are 1st round prospects have a chance to be very good. Granted, I did think Geno was a 1st round player last year. I dont want to "throw him out". I just want a franchise QB and I want him to perform much better than he has. I expect better, plain and simple. Statistically, he is playing like the worst QB in the league. On tape, the majority of the time that shows as well. I do think that he has shown some bright spots, especially early on. Right now though, the negatives are outweighing the positives more and more. Patience is certainly a good quality, but only when that player deserves patience. As Ive said, Im not sure if Geno has showed enough for me to commit to him for the future. I dont know if this team can afford to wait on Geno... As for the other positions, I have clearly been outspoken about how poor I think the talent is and how it absolutely needs to be addressed. Last year my mock consisted of pretty much all offensive players. The same with this year. Nothing has changed since, and the same holes exist. The QB position gets dissected so much because its the most important position in all of sports.
Stokes, Kaep has been pretty bad this year throwing the ball. I think he's worse than people think. I wouldn't want to use him as the measuring stick.
For all of you who are so intent on overdrafting a quarterback, who the hell do you expect them to throw the ball to? We don't have an elite talent at any of the offensive skill positions and an OK at best offensive line. We'd just be setting up a new QB for failure just like we did with Geno and Sanchez. While I'm not a believer in Geno particularly, he's throwing to a motley group of other team's cast offs and UFA's. Even if the team was healthy we have no #1 WR or TE. There are maybe 4 QBs that could make this offense not suck, all of whom are future first ballot hall of fame players. And whoever we pick next year will get run out of town again by SOJF's who have unrealistic expectations. This draft is DEEP at QB. Considering our situation the only QB that is a must-take in the 1st is Bridgewater, and he ain't coming here. There are several that I would take in a heartbeat in the 2nd round. Let's give whoever happens to be the starter next year, weather that be Geno or next year's pick a fighting chance to actually be successful.
You missed the point- Mariota is a SUPERIOR passer to Kaep. And even still, if you were to redo that draft today knowing what we know, Kaep goes top 3-5. _
My word means just as little as yours- you've let your bias open up a fantasy world. There is nothing to debunk, your "word" means shit because you've based your "word" on a rumor you have know way of knowing is true or false, yet you continue to throw it out there as fact. It's fantasy land. You want to give time to what looks like a failed gamble with a throw away second rounder. I want to give time to a legit franchise QB and there are 6-7 BETTER QBs coming out this year. But you avatar shows your bias so you keep believing that Idzik was desperately trying to trade up for him. In your eyes he's still a first rounder I'd imagine. _
My rating the top college QB by some. Can't wait to see Mariota vs Mannion play Friday. Marcus Mariota from Oregon has started two years and has a completion rate of 66.4 over that time.59 TDs to 8 Ints. A proven scrambler with 180 attempts for 1281 yards for 7.1 average and 14 TDs. Has a good NFL frame and could easily add weight/strength at 6'4" and 211 lbs. Things I mark as negatives including such a good ground game which could lead to inflated passing stats: Primary RB Byron Marshall averages 6.4 yds and scored 14 Tds #2 RB Thomas Tyner averaged 6.3 yds and scored 8 TDs All these guys on his supporting cast will be on NFL roster come next June: Top 5 RB De'Anthony Thomas Top 5 TE Colt Lyerla Top 10 WR Josh Huff Rated Top C Hroniss Grasu Top 10 OT Jake Fisher Top 10 OG Brandon Thomas Top 15 OG Hamani Stevens Future 1st round picks that inflated his stats: Currently Top 2 RB for 2015 draft Byron Marshall only a Sophomore Currently Top Rated #1 RB for 2016 draft Thomas Tyner only a Freshman Above are nine offensive players that will be on an NFL team in the future and they not only assisted him, but provided blocking and one of the best running tandems in college. What above average QB would not have been good under those circumstances. We all saw what Sanchez could even do in the NFL with a great running game to support him. Is Marcus Mariota a very good QB on a very good offense, you bet, but is he good enough to carry an NFL team? Would he be as good playing for Oregon State or would Mannion be just as good playing in his place at Oregon? When 9 of the other 10 starters on your offense are NFL caliber too, that elevates your play a lot. I would rather see a guy on a lesser team doing well.
How the hell is it a failed pick? Stop pussyfooting around answering the questions I have brought up. It has been 11 games, how the hell does someone write off somebody just like that? How do you know they are better QBs than Geno? Based off college footage? Will that transition to the pros? Honestly, is your word on college prospects suddenly golden? and my avatar means I show support for the player and move because he is a Jet and because I liked the pick. Should we shun people who have Richardson avatars now? That's such a petty thing to keep bringing up. And yes, I feel that Geno should have gone in round 1 but he didn't. Whether it was because he just wasn't that good or if he didn't handle the media right heading into the draft or if not many teams were fishing for a QB with high picks, he did not go in round 1. However, he was a top 40 pick which is still fairly high even if it wasn't round 1 so it wasn't like he's Greg McElroy 2.0 with where he got taken. I am not a Tebot clone for Geno and I didn't just join this site because of Geno Smith if that was what you were trying to get at. I am a Jets fan first and foremost but I also have patience and don't get mad when rookies don't perform right away and don't take out past depression of the QB position on a rookie who should not take the brunt of that. People who take out their anger because of Sanchez underachieving on Geno aren't really being fair but I digress.
You see my avatar? I've been a Syracuse fan since 1977, attended, seen or listened to just about every game since then. I've watched WVU football for decades. I saw Geno play 20 times in college and saw him play three times live. More times than I'd guess you'd seen him. He was the ultimate product of a system, he put up obnoxious numbers against James Madison (yeah, who knew James Madison played football), Marshall and an AWFUL Baylor team. 5TDs, 4 TDs, 8 TDs--YAY he's the number one pick in the draft!! Until he started playing real football teams and then he was simply really good. Oh, and he had Tavon Auston and Steadman Bailey to throw screens to and shovel passes to and they took it for 70 yards and TDs like a bunch of grapes. He was a figment. Like those QBs at all those WAC teams that put up 600 yards a game and never get drafted or play in the NFL. I've actually WATCHED Teddy and Mariota and Mettenberger and Manziel and Murray and McCarron and Boyd play and they are BETTER than Geno. Yeah, all of them BETTER. And while I haven't seen Carr, from what I've heard he could be the real deal and is in all likelihood is BETTER than Geno too. I'm not expert, but what is universally acknowledged: 2013 was an absolute SHIT year for QBs, guys talking up QBs here as third round picks didn't even get drafted and aren't even on rosters right now. 2014 is an OUTSTANDING year for QBs and the year to take one, anyone, and they'll be a better foundation to build around than Geno. I get that you are infatuated with Geno and hope beyond hope that he's your savior. Likely he's not. More likely any one of 7 or 8 guys this year are. Maybe more. I'm sorry you can't get over your infatuation to see that. _
Agreed! I like Marcus Mariota and Sean Mannion the best. Mariota had great college players around him, so I worry he is over inflated. Mannion did it all on his one except for Cooks an over achieving receiver.
Just wondering, what do you guys think of Brett Hundley? From what I've seen, he looks like a really nice QB with lots of potential.
I don't question your commitment to Syracuse or how much you know of the Big East pre 2013. I really don't but I too have seen some of Geno's games and enough to have an opinion. Here is my issue with Geno Smith in comparison to AJ McCarron or Mettenberger......Geno was required to do much more. Yes he did not win anywhere near the amount of games either guy had but the weapons Geno had at his disposal get cancelled out by McCarron having Richardson/Yeldon and a very good OLine led by picks of Barrett Jones and DJ Fluker. Mettenberger did not have as much talent around him on the offense as McCarron BUT like McCarron, he had the luxury of having one of the best defenses in the nation with elite level recruits to dictate field position and not give up early points and dictate how the offense gets run. Geno did not have this luxury....early and often, the Mountaineers defense put the offense in a deficit, enough where the run had to be abandoned and Geno had to play into opposing defenses hands and have to throw, whether by bubble screen or having to throw long distance. Admittedly, Geno was inconsistent at best having to throw down the field in college. I don't think the biggest Geno supporters can tell you otherwise. His eye work was a total work in progress and he made some solid throws but also had some lousy throws. He still needs to work on this stuff but his footwork has come a long way under David Lee this year compared to what I saw heading into this draft. And as much as I love Teddy(Teddy right now is better than what Geno is but we won't get him barring a trade up barring him bombing at the combine), he hasn't exactly lit anyone up this year(He killed Florida admittedly but that's just one game) so I don't know why the argument of his lack of competition isn't brought into question here. Tajh Boyd is just as bad was what Geno was with ball security and has been inconsistent in his big games. Manziel came out of an air raid offense that another former air raid QB(Ex Jet Kingsbury) formed at A&M much like Geno, why does this get denounced when people have brought this up against Geno? I like Murray but he's taken a pounding of injuries in Georgia, where questions of his body holding up could come into question come combine time. I would be alright with Murray in round 4 as a project QB similar to Lattimore for SF and have him rehab and bide his time/learn the speed of the game and playbook while going to war with Geno but I don't know if Murray will last that long.
Really athletic, great scrambler and can make plays off his feet but work in progress as a passer. Should stay in UCLA for another year but he might go really high in the draft and it will tempt him to declare. He kinda reminds me of a higher ceiling EJ Manuel, who I wasn't a fan of.
Brett Hundley is not the best pocket awareness or scrambling QB and runs the ball way more than he should. A few notes below. Bad: Over the last two years as a starter he has rushed 297 times with a 2.9 average and he gets sacked 1 out of every ten pass attempts. If you think those stats will get better when he steps up to the pros you're wrong. Good: Some scouts and sites have him rated really high. He really didn't have a great receiver to rely on and had to spread the ball around a lot which is a positive. Didn't have the greatest run support and that helps explain the running he did and some of the sack. He has a pretty accurate pass and maintained 67% completions while throwing a ton of balls over the last two years.
I would say the exact opposite. When you say "off his feet" you must mean on his back. Gets sacked way too much for a good scrambler and has a crappy rushing average for a running QB. His passing is good considering he doesn't have good run support and no standout receivers.
