Im hoping that the Jet brass when drafting Geno last year in the 2nd, said to themselves, " hey if this guy blows, we always have next year's QB class to choose from."
Talk should have been lets' let Sanchez play this year, get the best offensive players we can, and see what we have to do in 2014. Now they wasted a 2 on Geno. Really don't think the front office wants to hear do over in the draft. Just looks bad.
yes but Geno was not a sure miss you know there was a chance the guy would work out and the upside of that would be great cuz then the rebuild was so much ahead if you get a franchise QB in the 2º round but again it diddnt , but was worth the risk.
Then this year they need to get WR/TEs and see what they need in 2015...whatever they do, PLEASE don't fall for the Manziel hype!
the beauty of it is that since geno was a second round pick in the new cba we can actually have this conversation. unlike a number of years ago when we drafted a guy at 5 and had to sign him to a big big rookie contract. its a very good position and that is why you will never ever hear me complain about them drafting geno smith where they did. its all upside. AND they are finding out what he can and cant do on the field which is HUGE. now the question becomes does morningwood think he can and will correct his issues or is it time to start over. i saw the kid correct issues earlier in the year the next week after they happened, now a days not so much. so i guess the jury is still out but there is no reason not to draft a qb if they are there when we pick. just not johnny douchelord.
Do we need to draft a quarterback? The jury is still out on the answer, does Geno completely stink lately due to the fact defenses are preparing for him and he can,t handle it. Is it due to his not being too swift at reading defenses and trying to guess ( most of the time being wrong lately) what is going on with the d and being shocked and panicking with the ball. I think what is wrong is Rex and his constant belief that it is better to send a QB out there to not make mistakes instead of cutting the QB loose to score and play the position with confidence, it is like going back to the BS Herm would spew, you play to win the game, but not with Qb play, you play safe when the QB is out there. If It is my first point and defenses are now preparing for him and he can't handle it, all the more reason to play Sims due to Ds not knowing what he does best just like us.
I think the Jets should prioritize a QB if he's the BPA on any of their picks. That said, Bill Walsh had an awful lot of draft picks to work with compared to the 7 you get each year in the modern NFL.
I think Idzik would draft someone and maybe even trade up to get them if he believes the player can be a good NFL Qb. The thing is top overall picks are not a guarantee for success. Some guys are drafted late or even FAs and adjust to the NFL game better than the big prospects. I personally think too much is made for the Qb position. There are only a small handful of elite Qbs or franchise Qbs. So the odds are you're not going to get one. Rather than break in another rookie I'd go with signing a veteran FA Qb and seeing who wins the job in training camp. Geno is not out of the picture and either is Matt Simms.
There's still a chance he will work out. I don't see why people are writing him off or are willing to have ongoing QB competitions rather then QB development?
People are writing him off because a lot of people wrote him off from the get-go and for many people being right is more important than anything else.
What makes you think he's a dumb QB? Have you read any of the scouting reports and have you seen any of his games? He has FULL command of the offense and makes good reads.
Which I think was the plan before Geno dropped to us. We were always going QB in '14. Every man and his dog talked about how weak the class of '13 was. Geno was a low risk pick and still yet may pan out.
No draft pick should be used on a qb this year see my argument on page 1.... Random, but has anyone streamed live jets games from an iPhone 4 successfully...with the holiday weekend I don't want to miss the game this weekend amidst the travel...please let me know! Thanks!
You missed the part where I said I wasn't comparing them, just saying that guys can improve from year to year given some competition. The bottom line is Geno hasn't played well, but guys can improve. Foles was just the example fresh on my mind. Of course the Jets should get another QB somehow, but he shouldn't come at too high of a price because there are plenty of other holes to fill that can help the team, and Geno Smith is still in the middle of his rookie season. I don't know about you, but I'll pass on a second consecutive season of a rookie quarterback with no protection and a carousel of the "who's that" of NFL receivers.
The Jets need to use all there upcoming picks on available QBs, maybe if they did that, they could get a potential franchise QB, I always get weary when there drafting at that position, cause its almost always a failure, but were not the only organization, to fail, its damn near impossible, to get the manning Montana Brady if the draft.
With so many holes on offense I say load up with as much talent at skill positions, even lineman, this year and see what Geno can do year 2 with more help around him. If he blows and keeps regressing then go QB high in '15. With added talent on offense in '14 would make whomever they draft at QB in '15's job that much easier...
