Good head coaches figure it out. Rex has had nearly half a decade and 3 OC's (Rex on Sparano becoming available: "I'm like...Oh hell yeah. That's my guy.") to learn. What head coach gets 3 OC's in 5 years? The offense continues to get worse and worse. Give him credit on the defense, but in 5 years, he still can't differentiate his ass from his elbow on offense. Not the sign of a good head coach.

Guys like you crack me up. You act as though QBs like Brees can be picked up at your local Walmart. I equate it to NBA fans that claim all their teams need is quality big man that can play with their back to the basket as if they are so easy to get. No shit Sherlock. EVERY fan would prefer to have "franchise" QB like Brees versus a game manager like Alex Smith. Until you land that "franchise" guy, you can still WIN with guys like Smith and I believe Sanchez Isn't winning what it is all about? Should KC just dump Alex Smith and purposely lose games so they can be in better position to get a real "franchise"? You can still search for that franchise guy while still trying to WIN. They are mutually exclusive. Brees, Brady, Warner, Wilson..etc. are all "franchise" guys not drafted in the first round.

He is a FA. If Chicago elects not to resign him, no compensation would be necessary. You would just need a check book and a lot of money under the cap. I think at the very least Chicago will franchise him though.

Jay Cutler is a free agent
I don't know where we draft next season
Rex might be a better coach with any experienced QB
If we sign him, we can go get some skill players

    Is Cutler worth it

You missed my point. My point was that during 2011-2012 era all I heard was how Sanchez could be the next Eli or Brees. So he goes from being the next Eli and Brees to Alex Smith. For every Smith, Brees or Eli. There are far more QB's who never turn their careers around.

If he is franchised, that designation only lasts for a year
Is that worth it for a QB?

    This.

The idea that Palmer or Fitzpatrick would be nothing more than a band-aid is laughable.

Those guys are proven mediocrity at quarterback with far better talent than the Jets have on offense.

That said, the Jets have dropped the ball by NEVER having a viable veteran alternative to the starter. A guy like Fitzpatrick or Palmer would be nice to have as a backup. David Garrard was supposed to be that guy, but that clearly hasn't worked out in that way.

The Jets should keep drafting young quarterbacks until one works out. Keep Geno. Draft someone else. Develop Simms. Do whatever it takes to get a top quarterback for the long haul in green and white.

    He definitely has faults, but..

    He's a FA
He's better than anything we have
He's better than anything we could draft
He would give us a chance to win a game like today

We're going to be well under the cap next year

If he's not franchised we have to make a move

What is even more baffling is the constant post game press conference from Rex always making excuses for horrible quarterbacking. For a long time it was play calling, these last two years it has been just plain horrible quarterback performance with every other reason but in the post game press conference.

Sanchez had a three game stretch of 1 TD and 8 Ints (2009) and a 4 game stretch of 1 TD and 8 Ints (2012) and a 5 game stretch of 4 TD's and 10 Ints (2009) and none of those games overlapped.

In other words in 12 games over 3 sequences he had 6 TD's and 26 Int's. Geno has a ways to go to match that level of futile sequences.

If we get Cutler this accomplishes 2 things. We'll be competitive with a decent QB at the helm. Plus Geno sits for 2 or 3 seasons. Hopefully Geno can step up when he gets his chance again.

All of the above said, it's hard to see what Geno and the Jets are getting out of this at the moment. The offense is in extreme disarray with nothing working right and it's not clear that Geno or the coaches can navigate the mess late in the season.

My best guess is that Geno is still in there because Rex is concerned the Jets will lose out if he puts Simms in and he'll lose his job. This is not a specific knock on Simms, the first few starts for a QB in the NFL are a very hard experience to get through. Most guys get beat like a drum for a month and then things slow down.

If Geno goes 1-4 down the stretch things are going to be very dicey all over the place as the organization tries to figure things out.

If Simms goes 1-4 it will look like the Jets surrendered with no clear benefit out of the deal. They'll point out that Geno needed to sit for awhile to clear his head and that will be the truth but it will be a nasty situation anyway.

Here's the truth. The Jets are rebuilding. Rex and his coaching staff managed to parlay some lucky breaks early on into a decent enough record that people looked past the fact that the Jets have no talent on offense except the guys who have not been able to stay on the field for them.

Look at the point differential. That's the truth. Look at who is lining up at the skill positions on offense. That's the truth.

This was a 5 to 8 win team coming into the season and hopefully they can pull 3 wins out of the hat in December and get to the top of the range. People will be screaming because the Jets "blew" their playoff chance and the lead at the bye but that was always a small chance of happening. The talent isn't there this year.

Hopefully the Jets are in solidarity mode at this point and everybody in the organization is rowing in the same direction. That's what you need to handle the adversity that rebuilding in the NY Metro area takes.

Geno is no where near ready to play in the NFL, I doubt he ever will be but he needs to see the bench, the Jets are still in the hunt for a WC, and there is no way Geno's play is the Jets best chance to win.

I know he has a poor talent pool but he just looks completely incompetent out there, he does nothing well at all.

How the F*** did the Jets brass go into this season with no veteran backup? It seems inconceivable they went in with Sanchez who was a dead man walking and a complete unknown in Geno.

I won't get personal with Geno, but he is no where near ready to play in the NFL and clearly Morningwheg has absolutely zero faith in him, heck Cribbs is throwing the ball more than Geno.

BR4. No question the points you are making are extremely valid. The offense is indeed in extreme disarray, but much of it stems from playing a QB that WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT READY FOR THE NFL PRIME TIME NOR WILL IT BE NEXT YEAR.

The Jets have a monster decision to make this off season, way past the need for a WR, TE and OL, not to mention OLB. They must pencil in a QB that will make them competitive if not a contender. Without him, building strength without the center piece will be an utter waste of time and talent.

officially, I'm about to place Geno in the same pile as Mark......neither were ready, and they got screwed but pushing them

The Jets are not in the hunt for the wild card. They're in "if it drops in our laps" mode right now.

They basically have two paths that I see to a playoff spot.

    1. Win out.

    2. Go 4-1 and have everybody but the Dolphins finish 8-8 or worse.

    That's a very small chance.

Tell me with a straight face that the Jets have even a small chance at winning 4 out of 5 with a young QB getting his first 5 starts of his career.

It's disheartening to see that our QB position has spawned an argument over whether Geno or Sanchez has been more futile.

Let's make one thing clear- the entire offense looked god-awful today. Geno looks rattled. The line was atrocious. Receivers dropped balls. All of this happened while Sanchez was here as well. Right now, Geno doesn't look like a Franchise QB.

At this point, if the coaches think he has the chance of playing better than Geno, then they should give Simms a shot. Let Geno shake off the rust for a few games. He's lost the confidence he had earlier in the year. I guess it really comes down to whether or not they think Simms is the answer.
