I was all for Geno but fuck that... Start Simms.. They are going to rip him a new one at the Meadowlands next weekend if he starts.
I dont think he is dumb, Its clear the game is too fast for him. Its like hitting a fastball. He needs to get the speed and build confidence. He has all the tools to succeed at this level. I think the game is too fast for him right now. Im not writing him off, but next year Id like to see a veteran signing to push him and make him challenge him. Not a fake one like Brunell either, Im talking a real legit QB who could play.
Is still think Geno can be great QB one day, and I outright refuse to believe that a rookie year is indicative of a players ceiling like others do, but he CERTAINLY isn't a good one now and worse yet he's STILL the best chance we have at making the postseason unless Garrard has it in him. His support has been NIL, and he's not at a point where he can take the team to new heights on his own. we're caught between a rookie thats getting no help and rookie that can't help himself. For the most part it feels like he's regressing due to not feeling confident in his supporting cast more than anything else, he's developing instincts to compensate for this and that in turn causes more poor QB play in a weird perpetual cycle. I don't want to seem like I'm not acknowledging his faults, he's not making his reads the best he can, he's not feeling pressure the best he can, and perhaps isn't running as much as he should. But to believe he can't get better over the long haul, to me, is ludicrous and based on the idea that last years rookies are the norm rather than the exception. He's got problems, lots of them, but I won't be an alarmist and will instead take the high road. He can get better, but he's awful now. he needs support, time, and reps. we don't want to be patient because we feel thats not a precedent thats valuable today (probably not true),that there a prospects we won't have to do that for waiting for us (they'll have their own rookie), and that we don't want to waste time on another Sanchez (Smith won't be given THAT long but we've been burned and don't want that to happen again) but honestly it might be more worth our time to continue being such. I'm sure the Powers that be are just as pissed as us but are better prepared and less emotionally charged enough to be smart about this.
I can buy most of the INTs, some have been for reasons other than poor QB play. I can't buy the sacks for a loss of 8-15 yards, if the O-Line is swiss cheese, throw at the fitness coach and retain field position.
That sounds a lot like some guy we know, called Sanchez, back in 2011. So give him 3 more years to suck, then draft a new one?
He is clearly playing terribly - I wouldn't cut him as he is still pretty cheap but stick him on the bench and get a proper QB in next season - no more Brunell/Garrard types who cant even play any more - a proper middle of the pack QB that can actually drive the football down the field occasionally without passing it to the other team
Smith is in a losing system surrounded by losers on offense. He never had a fair chance in the first place. Regardless of that, I don't think he has what it takes.
Why is it the Same conversation every week? Less than 50% completion in a WCO, losing the turnover game, losing TOP, getting beat for big plays in the passing games, and losing the field position game...= a losing team. At this rate the jets may not win another game this year... Geno is not the answer. He needs to make quick decisive decisions.
I said that preseason, but no, I was racist and dumb and had no clue. Geno sucks, guys. He's a moron and has no football qb IQ. We WASTED a pick on this clown. Could have took Nassib, or waited till next year.
I didn't like the pick on draft night and I'm pretty sure Geno won't develop into a top 10 NFL QB but in his defense... the o-line is pretty bad, the run game is average-slightly above average at best and he has no weapons. For a raw QB who didn't play anything close to resembling a pro style system in college, Geno's performance shouldn't exactly be surprising. He actually has a stronger arm than I thought and can do more with his legs than I figured he would so there is physical potential, the guy just needs a lot of help at this stage of his development.
That's the first thing I thought when they drafted him, big arm, completely stupid, an has no idea how to protect the ball, an guess what, spot on. idzik, better right thus wrong in the off season, if he he stick with this albatross, it will be very telling of the Jets future, under him
