The PFF stats have their problems too. As I understand it their ranking literally indicates the Jets OL is better at pass blocking than run blocking, which is not only the opposite of the view of Smith's defenders here, even I would say that makes no sense. The stat at nfl.com shows the OL ranks highly at yards rushing and ypc, but loses ranking due to Qb hits and sacks. The problem there particularly when your Qb is a rookie who is lost out there and a turnover machine is that those numbers reflect poor pocket awareness and holding the ball too long, not merely poor pass blocking. In that connection I do not understand even Smith's most ardent defenders to contend he gets the ball out quickly.
Ivory played on a team where he was probably the last consideration for the defense. You're above making an argument like that.
Honest and sincere question and I'm seriously not trying to be a sarcastic prick here. What does Ivory's YPC last year have to do with this year's line play? I know you're a Giant fan, but you know Ivory wasn't on the Jets last year, right? Ok, that last part was sarcastic, but still. _
I also remember Steve Atwater being a HOF safety before he came to the Jets. Not sure how you compare a player that was on a different team last year to his stats this year. Not sure what Ivory's YPC on a completely different team with a completely different offense with COMPLETELY different human beings has to do with the offensive line play on the Jets this year. _
Powell didn't and he had a veteran QB handing him the ball and keeping the D honest. Now tell me it's because the Great MM is the OC. How did Jones bust all those runs with Shotty as his OC? The OL has been mediocre and uneven. Granted the QB has a ton of issues but the interior guard play has been dogshit.
How come when someone says the offensive line isn't performing to standards they have to be some Geno supporter or some "Muck" supporter? Such bullshit, the Jets offensive line isn't ranked average ANYWHERE. When Geno was going up against the Bills, or Falcons the offensive line was still getting beat. Osi beat Brick on several occasions. The statistics and the game shows the offensive line is under-performing, Geno is playing like crap as well. The only good grace we have on offense is the running game.
the line hasnt been playing as well as they should but that doesnt excuse geno and his mistakes. he still has shit footwork and has started making more negative plays than positive at this point. the offense has gotten really conservative and geno needs to step up. hes how many weeks into the season already? if hes going into a rookie slump and we already saw his ceiling, then, fuck.
Geno was a bad pick for us. We needed more pieces on the offensive side. Should have waited and picked up a vet on the cheap. Geno is no better than Sanchez, we will have the same result. An interception prone QB who's job will be safe no matter what. Another odd philosophy of a Rex Ryan coached team
No excuses for any pro QB as they get paid to win but its hard to pass on your back. Further I do not know if Geno was a good or bad pick for us. I do know that it takes a few years to develop a raw QB prospect. I like to think that Rex, MM, Bradway et al have more information then I do to make the decision to either draft a guy or not. What say you? On the surface I think Geno has more ability then Sanchez and is playing with an offensive team devoid in talent in a few areas but in fairness, so did Sanchez. However this year I see rookies at QB, FB and LG. Its tough to win in the NFL like that. The OL has been inconsistent due lack of playing time together but I think I am seeing the decline of NICK & BRICK. What say you? I see Holmes as our #1 receiver seldom playing and being on the same page as the QB. Ditto our best TE ( Winslow) . A few weeks ago two of our current receivers were pounding the pavement looking for work at Burger King etc. I am prepared to give GENO until the start of preseason next year. Either he sinks or swims as I assume that REX et al will drastically upgrade the offensive talent. But I subscribe to the Bill Walsh school of thought re QBs. Get one every year and train him in our ways! Eventually you will strike gold. I refuse to jump ship on a raw rookie QB with weak surrounding talent without an adequate period of time to adjust to the NFL. There must be NFL quality talent in the skill positions. And yet through it all we are 5 and 5 and the raw rookie QB has 4 come-back wins to his credit! We are still in the playoff picture. Did anyone expect this before the season started? What say you?
Our commitment made to Geno financially was minimal its why we made. Its why Idzik decided to take him, we were not committing to him with first round pick. A lot of people feel that we are not comfortable benching because we are undecided on Geno. We are undecided but it does not mean its because they want to see more. It actually would be easier to sit him down a couple games if we had already decided he was the future and just needed to watch from sideline for couple weeks. I was totally fine a couple weeks back moving forward with Geno, something inside me tells me we are destined to end up with Manziel.
How can you condemn a QB after 10 games, especially when he's won 5 of them? We've obviously forgotten what a rookie quarterback is in light of RG3, Luck, Wilson and Newton. Now, if he were to keep making the same mistakes over a 4 year span -cough cough Mr. Cornrow McButtfumble- then you can close the book on him. But Peyton Manning threw 28 interceptions in his rookie year. Give him some time to develop; you can't deny that he has a strong and accurate arm, it's just the decision making that's at fault, and that takes time.
I 100% agree, but we need to see more potential in Geno before we can give him the reigns for 4 years. The Jets can theoretically contend next year (and will likely contend in 2015 if Idzik makes the rights moves); we just need a Qb in place who can learn and develop. Geno might be that guy. He might not be that guy. I don't want to have to wait 4 years to figure this out, though.
I don't understand how we got to a point where we think we can sufficiently evaluate a quarterback based on starting one season as a rookie. Mind you, I'm not really a Geno fan. I think the Jets would have been much better off using that pick differently last year and starting a veteran while building a team around the QB. But I just don't think it makes sense to make a judgment on Geno based on his play as a starting rookie QB. I mean how long did Aaron Rogers sit on the bench? I don't think he would have come out as a rookie QB of the Jets and lit it up right away. Those guys last year were anachronistic. Sometimes it takes a good 3 years for a QB to develop and the first one he should be sitting on the sidelines.
