That stat depends too much on the Qb's own performance to be of value. i read a stat that says, as any perceptive fan of the Jets has noticed, that Smith holds onto the ball far longer than average. But even if the talent around Smith is subpar, what is the harm in seeing what another Qb can do with the same talent? Right now Smith ain't making it, so why keep him in there?
Didn't you know? The NFL is like Madden, Geno is going to magically improve all his abilities with the points he stacked up this season! This is why we must leave him in, more points for the off-season.
Bs. Go back and watch the St.louis game from last year., And while Sanchez accuracy problems are well noted, Smith throws sceens into the fucking sidelines, and the ones he does complete have the Back reaching up over his head and twisting.
Yup....it's an excuse. The OL is actually pretty good. Considering both guards are new. And maybe the OL sucks crowd can explain how Powell is averaging 3.9 ypc and Ivory 4.4?
Again, bringing up that SAME game, dude has been a starter for 4 years. You are bringing up 1 game continuously. Nearly 70 starts in the NFL and you bring up one game. Geno's screen pass to Salas in the N.O. game was accurate as they come. They both have a hard time doing a good screen pass though.
Gang Green 101 has provided a link in the OL Top 5? thread that shows the Jets as 27/32 in OL performance. Now show us yours.
who cares? that means nothing, comparing OLs isn't like comparing WR receptions of QB TD passes. It's near impossible for anyone outside the teams themselves to properly grade an OL.
I wouldnt be completely surprised if Mark is still here next year. Cut and resigned cheaply. Most teams wont touch him. I could see him wanting to compete with Geno for the starting job. He knows the coaches and NY.
For the simple reason both of our pass catching TE were out and we inserted either an extra down lineman or a fullback to compensate. We installed a run heavy OL in order to run the ball. The NFL is primarily a passing league. The Jets have resorted to a run heavy package in order to get a decent not great run game established. When we put a pass catching TE on the field it's a complete fire drill to run or pass block.
The offensive line has been sub-par, I would say it's ALMOST as bad as 2011 with WFH. Use your eyes, there are missed assignments - and players getting beat like a drum. Jets should of used the 9th pick on Warmack to solidify the interior offensive line. That is where the problem IMO lies. Winters is up and down, Vlad sucks, Colon is inconsistent - I love the guys attitude but he's not that good. Below average. Austin Howard isn't that bad, I think he's def our RT of the future though. Brick and Mangold's play has suffered, which has led to their decline.
My analysis is based on the stats found on nfl.com, showing the OL ranked 8th for total yards rushing and 11th for ypc. That covers the running game, which btw I think you would see better numbers on if opposing D's did not load the box because they had to be concerned about facing a competent NFL quality Qb, which when they play hte Jets they do not. Add in that while the sack and Qb hit totals are too high, I attribute that to Smith holding on to the ball too much. Someone else quoted the stats on time holding the ball, but I do not have a link. Still anyone watching the Jets lately can see that Smith holds on to the ball too much. I of course acknowledge that Winters is a rookie and that VD before him was committing an atrocious number of penalties. Colon is mostly good news since he's remained inthe lineup, but he is also committing too many penalties. But I think with those exceptions I do not see any pattern of poor play, and the rushing numbers show they are relatively productive.
I'm not going to get into how good or how sub par the Oline is this year but it is no where near as bad as 2011. Wayne Hunter had consistently one of the worst performances I have ever seen out of an offensive lineman. First offensive play of the entire year DeMarcus Ware ran by him without as much as a fingernail. Von Miller, half the Baltimore defense- he was awful and I had very high hopes for him. I agree on the Warmack pick- he was my pick for months leading up to the draft. I know folks don't think you can pick a G that high but in my mind if you can lock down a spot for the next decade with one of the top prospects at that position in a while, you do it. _
That might explain what they did when both Winslow and Cumberland were out, but the season long stats show the OL has top third rushing performance.
Because its the only game similar to what we run now. Thats the point. Yeah, i guess I could bring up the road playoff wins etc..,but that would be retarded. The point has always been, that. That game, was close to what we were about to set in motion. Not a difficult concept. And ok, so in 70 starts he also had four road playoff wins and two AFCCG appearances? So what. The only real point is Smith was clearly not ready to be a starter coming out of college. period. And you had a guy that performed well on a team built like this one, and threw the season away, in the Snoopy bowl
You can't slam somebody for not using facts and then cherry pick the stats (FACTS!) you want to use to support your own private rating system.
One back is averaging 3.9, the other 4.4, BB os right, it isn't the line thats the issue. And, they're a averaging those numbers with no passing threat.
You consider Geno's scrambling to lead the team in rushing in the Tampa Bay game a good OL performance? Geno running for his life skews the stats. Sacks come out of passing yards while scrambles for positive yardage going into the running stats.
I am using my eyes, it is a million times better than last year. The OL has been good enough to win with.
