Tanny was here 7 years and went through 2 different coaching regimes. He was not jerked in anyway. I'm not sure if I posted the following on this board or not but when we acquired Tebow everyone I know wanted to get my take since I am the only and biggest Jets fan there is around my neck of the woods. I told everyone the same thing I said when we acquired Favre in 2008 and when we traded out of the first round in 2005 to acquire Doug Jolley. I said it was one of those "someone is going to be fired at the end of the season moves". Tanny turned out to he that "someone" this time. If he doesn't make that trade, Tanny is still our GM.

he did a great job for us, we never missed the playoffs more than 2 straight years, we made 2 title games, won more playoff games than any other regime in team history. he deserved to come back even w/ the awful year last year.

He wasn't the GM for the Jolley trade in 2005 but that trade was a GREAT trade for us. we went into that draft w/ Miller and Nugent targeted(bash that evaluation if you like) and we traded back, still got those guys, acquired more picks which led to Kerry Rhodes who was really good for us for a few years.

We can argue about whether they were good moves or not, but what can't be argued is that someone got fired at the end of the season for everyone of them.

Bradway didn't get fired b/c of the Jolley trade, he too was sent packing b/c of fan/media pressure after one bad year where we had a million injuries.

The favre trade didn't get Mangini fired though his play contributed, he got fired b/c his team despised him and they didn't win a playoff game in 3 years.

And where would you magically have gotten these players?

What doomed Tannenbaum was treating draft picks like spackle to fill holes with.

with the space they have and the needs they have there will be at least one moderate sized signing, either at OLB or WR.

I only say WR because Holmes is likley to be kicked off the team and even if they got Watkins, Lee, or Evans going in without a good 4+ year veteran isn't wise.

other than that it should be more building through the draft, a few contract negotiations with cro, harris and Wilkerson and thats that.

Again all I know is that I said they all were moves that would lead to someone getting fired directly or indirectly and that's what happened. "Splash" or controversial move is made in the off-season. It doesn't pan out. Someone gets fired. That's just how it is in New York or at least with the Jets.

maybe you said that but that didn't make it true.

I wouldn't call getting Doug Jolley a "splash" move and the guy that got Favre didn't get fired.

Don't cherry pick. I said "splash or controversial". Jolley would fall under the latter category. You may have thought it was a great move but many people, myself included, thought it was asinine. It was one of those "we made the playoffs last year therefore we are just a couple players away" moves. Also, Mangini got fired after Favre. Like I said "someone" gets fired. Tanny at that point had struck gold 2 out of his first 3 drafts (Mangold, Brick, Davis, Revis...etc.), so he was untouchable leaving Mangini to be the fall guy.

I don't think Jolley was controversial at all, the Nugent pick was but not the Jolley trade.

You would be wrong thinking it was asinine, the results may not have worked and you can bash the scouting but the trade itself was a very good one.

Mangini didn't get fired b/c of the favre trade. Mangini got fired b/c of his rigid ways.

If Sanchez played good. Then there wouldn't be any "media pressure"

Michael Vick was always better than Sanchez. He just can't stay healthy. Even after MM left Vick still played good football.

Joe Montana wouldn't have been good under the circumstances last year.

Vick was more dynamic, I wouldn't say better- at least not in Philly where he had much more talent, a weaker division and still couldn't win a playoff game.

Rex was as responsible for Sporano as Tanny was. Tanny got canned because he had to turn the Jets around very fast and did it. The Jets were selling PSL's in an absolute terrible economy. The NY Yankees had to severely discount their best seats when they opened a new stadium and the economy tanked.

The Jets were under sever pressure to right the ship and Tanny not only did that he took a bad club and boldly built a team that had a legit 3 year run for the trophy. If Favre doesn't get hurt the Jets might very well have won a SB in both 08 and 09.

At the end of the day he was bold and took some short cuts but the Jets organization was absolutely desperate for headlines and wins during a very hard recession coupled with a financial burden of the new stadium.

The Sanchez and Revis contracts probably did him in but the team was clearly built for a very short window and that window coincided with the stadium PSL's.

Tanny like Idzik would be in position to rebuild the Jets in the next season as the cap was unwound.

Trading a first round pick for what equates to a TE that never amassed more than 40 receptions of 500 yards in a season and a kicker is stupid. It's stupid in Madden, it's stupid in fantasy football and definitely stupid in the NFL. Think of the players that's been traded for first round picks Percy Harvin, Darelle Revis, John Abraham..etc. Doug Jolley? Really? I'm getting all worked up as if it's 2005 all over again. I think Jolley played one more season after that year.

I believe Mangini got fired because he finished 9-7 after starting 8-3 which Favre had a lot to with but neither here or there. You are countering an argument that was never made. I NEVER said Mangini was fired b/c of the Favre trade. I predicted "someone" would get fired at the end the season once the move was made and someone did; case closed. If I made a bet, I would have won regardless of the specifics which you seem so stuck on. The next move I get that feeling about I will PM directly so we both can monitor if I continue to bat 1.000. I'm 3 for 3 thus far.

what doomed Tanny was Sanchez never getting any better - if you have a good QB everything else gets a whole lot easier and you look like a genius

though not sure how we got onto Tanny in this thread

Anyone know who will be free agent QB's in 2014? (Besides Sanchez, hey oh!)

This is where people get confused, they didn't trade a 1st rd pick for him. They moved back about 20 spots and got an established player PLUS got more picks. Going into that drafted all the rumblings were Justin Miller in rd 1 and nugent in rd 2, we traded back, got both players, extra picks AND a starting TE.

Favre had very little to do w/ our 8-3 start, he played well for about 3 of those games and with better QB play we are probably 9-2 or 10-1.

we know, it's your claim to fame here. Everyone knows you are afraid to debate me so stop talking me.

The folks that think Orton is better than sanchez don't know a thing about this game.
